With more people traveling to Yeosu these days, lots of folks are visiting the sights and then coming for a good barbecue meal, so let me introduce a Yeosu Korean BBQ place — star up~

Where is Yeosu Gat Yukgo Hakdong, and what are the hours?
Gasyukgo Hakdong (여수갓육고 학동점) is at 59 Seonso-ro, 1F, Hakdong, Yeosu, South Jeolla, South Korea. It's open 17:00–23:00, with last order at 22:30. Naver reservations are available, and baby chairs are on hand.

Inside Gat Yukgo Hakdong: the dining room

The interior was spacious and clean with plenty of seats, so it's easy to bring a group work dinner or family outing here without worry!

Gasyukgo in Yeosu only uses premium Korean pork aged for 14 days, and only uses Dolsan gat (leaf mustard) kimchi made by a master maker from Dolsan-gat, so even before eating my trust — and excitement — shot up ✨
Menu and prices at Gat Yukgo Hakdong

Besides the meat cuts — aged pork belly, yukhyangsal, aged pork shoulder, gabrisal — there's a wide range of side dishes too, so I felt like I could eat a hearty, satisfying meal without missing anything.
🗒 Order details 🗒
- Gasyukgo half-plate meat ₩49,000
- Gat-kimchi stew ₩6,000
- Gat-kimchi cold noodles ₩6,000

The banchan standout: Dolsan gat-kimchi jangajji (pickled leaf mustard)
Gasyukgo Hakdong serves still water! The side dishes were nicely arranged too — pickled green onion, gat-kimchi jangajji, pickled radish, various sauces, and lettuce. That gat-kimchi jangajji in particular was amazing!!!
Eating the slightly sweet gat-kimchi jangajji together with the meat cuts through any greasiness perfectly.

On the grill they put gat-kimchi, napa cabbage kimchi, and seasoned bean sprouts, and grilling those alongside the juicy pork belly is pure bliss,,

What comes on the Gat Yukgo half-plate 500g?
👉 Gasyukgo half-plate (500g), serves 2–3. This set lets you try three cuts together: aged pork belly, aged pork shoulder, and yukhyangsal. It's the recommended set for first-time visitors! Perfect for two people~

And at this barbecue restaurant, you can feel the Yeosu sea vibe with a turtle-ship-shaped tray for the raw meat — wow,, it felt like they paid attention to every little detail to give visitors that traveling-in-Yeosu feeling haha

The staff grill the pork for you at Gat Yukgo Hakdong
At Gasyukgo Yeosu, staff grill the meat for you from start to finish, so you just sit back and you'll get delicious meat!! It's a bummer when you burn it grilling yourself, right? Being able to focus on eating was even better🫶
They grilled the meat just right, sizzling away without drying it out.

They cook the yukhyangsal and pork shoulder first, saving the pork belly for last~

Once grilled, they gather the meat off to one side so it doesn't burn — now all that's left is to eat it up!

Yukhyangsal served only 70–80% cooked
First I tried yukhyangsal, a special pork cut — chewy with juices bursting out. It's served only about 70–80% cooked, and if you'd like it more done, just ask the staff and they'll grill it more for you.
But at that medium doneness, the pork flavor deepens the more you chew — it was just right.

The fattier pork belly pairs amazingly with gat-kimchi. The sharp, tangy gat-kimchi cuts right through the fattiness — I couldn't stop eating,,

Wrapping the meat with pickled radish, pickled green onion, and gat-kimchi is a must — one bite and I was floored,,

The shishito peppers and pineapple served alongside were a refreshing addition haha. The pork shoulder wasn't dry at all — really tender.

Also, at this Yeosu barbecue restaurant, steamed egg comes standard! A bite of the fluffy steamed egg was so good👍

Sides to order: gat-kimchi cold noodles and gat-kimchi stew
👉 Gat-kimchi cold noodles. This side dish we ordered came with ice floating in cool broth, topped with thin wheat noodles, gat-kimchi, egg garnish, and pickled radish.
It finished things off so cleanly that my hand kept reaching for it in between bites of meat. Also a generous portion!

After the meat, a bite of noodles topped with gat-kimchi wraps things up cleanly and refreshingly.

👉 Gat-kimchi stew. A kimchi stew packed with gat-kimchi. ✨ If you make a Naver reservation, this stew is apparently provided free.
Can you see all that's packed inside? Well-simmered gat-kimchi, tofu, and generous amounts of pork made for a deep, rich broth,,

Why Gat Yukgo Hakdong is worth a dinner on a Yeosu trip
They also serve corn ice cream after the meal, which is perfect for dessert haha.
