In short
Uchangho Sashimi Takeout & Direct Sales Market is a seafood takeout and wholesale shop near Ungcheon Port in Yeosu. I watched red sea bream get caught from the tank and prepared on the spot before enjoying its firm texture at my accommodation. A great place to check the tank and that day’s prices for live fish sashimi in Yeosu.

A standout sashimi takeout market in Yeosu’s Ungcheon

When you pass through Yeosu’s Ungcheon area, there’s a place that really catches your eye even from far away. It’s Uchangho Sashimi Takeout & Direct Sales Market (우창호 회포장&직판장).

The balloons stood out from a distance, so it wasn’t difficult at all to find. I don’t think first-time visitors would get lost either.
Uchangho Sashimi Takeout & Direct Sales Market

The live seafood in the tanks out front was moving around so actively. Just seeing that immediately makes you think, “Ah, this must be fresh.”

Even just watching, I could get a sense of the condition of the seafood here. The route to Uchangho Sashimi Takeout & Direct Sales Market was lovely too, with the Ungcheon waterfront spread out in view. The sky was clear that day, and the clouds looked so crisp, like cotton candy, which put me in an even better mood.

Daily price list and takeout ordering details
I liked that the price list for seafood being sold that day was neatly laid out at a glance. I could check what everything cost in advance without having to ask one by one, so I could browse without any pressure.

- Location: Yeosu’s Ungcheon, near the port (convenient parking)
- Type: Not a restaurant; specializes in sashimi takeout and wholesale/retail sales
- Feature: Fish is caught from the tank and prepared right away; phone orders can be picked up quickly
- My order that day: Red sea bream

There was also a separate board inside with that day’s market prices, which made it easy to look over. On the day I visited, black porgy was ₩35,000 per 1 kg, filefish ₩40,000, eoreumdom ₩350,000, red sea bream ₩35,000, olive flounder ₩40,000, sea bass ₩45,000, and sea squirt plus sea cucumber ₩20,000. With every price clearly posted, it was easy to choose with confidence without needing to haggle. The straightforward market-price listings felt trustworthy.

Red sea bream caught and prepared straight from the tank
This time, I ordered red sea bream. The owner caught it directly from a tank at the back of the shop, then prepared and sliced it right there.
Watching the fish get prepared so quickly with such practiced hands somehow made me trust it even more. Since I saw it being caught and sliced right in front of me, there was absolutely no need to question the freshness.
This is what buying real live-fish sashimi is all about, I thought. There was no journey from the tank to a refrigerator—I watched it go straight from the tank to the cutting board, and that alone was a satisfying experience.
There was also a large aquarium toward the back of the shop, and I was a little surprised by the scale as even bigger fish swam farther inside. I think the biggest advantage here is being able to check the wild-caught seafood yourself and have the one you want caught right away. Since both wholesale and retail are available, the supply felt plentiful and the selection varied too.
The red sea bream was carefully packed after being prepared, so it stayed fresh all the way to my accommodation. When I opened it and tried a piece, the flesh was springy and the savory flavor was noticeably different. It had that distinctive chewy texture of wild fish, and a subtle sweetness came through the more I chewed, so I kept reaching for another piece.
