I was looking for somewhere to have meat near Dongdaegu Station and ended up at Hubaldae Dongdaegu Station Branch (후발대 동대구역점). Apparently, lots of baseball fans already know this place haha.

Names of baseball-team players(?) were visible right from the entrance, so I immediately thought, ah, this place definitely has a vibe. It is in a great spot for eating around Dongdaegu Station and Daegu Shinsegae Department Store—just right if you are looking for a Korean BBQ restaurant in the area.
We had pork belly and daechang, then ordered ramen at the end. To give you the conclusion first, the meat itself was delicious, but the combinations to eat alongside it were really fun.
Pork belly grilled by the staff
The staff grill the meat themselves
At Hubaldae, the staff grill the meat themselves, which was so convenient.

The pork belly was thick, and they cooked it nicely golden on the grill. It was great just being able to sit back and wait.

When you go out to eat with a child, you know how you can end up grilling meat, looking after the child, and dealing with the side dishes, then barely get to eat yourself. Here, the staff took care of the grilling, and that was genuinely so convenient.

The menu includes Korean pork belly and pork neck, Korean beef daechang (beef large intestine), and grilled tripe, so if pork alone feels a little lacking, it would be nice to order daechang or tripe too.

The menu lineup also looked pretty good for anyone looking for a meat restaurant around Sincheon-dong.
Honey potatoes wrapped with kimchi
Honey potatoes wrapped with kimchi are a special treat
What I remember most here was the potatoes they grilled alongside the meat.

They were thinly sliced potatoes with a light honey-butter aroma, so they were delicious even on their own. Looking at the menu, it recommended honey potatoes + myeonginamul (pickled garlic leaves) + seasoned kimchi + fresh wasabi + a piece of meat.

That was the combination they recommended. I picked just the kimchi out of the kimchi that came almost like kimchi stew and tried wrapping it in a honey potato.

Ah, it was seriously such a special treat. The potato had soaked up a little of the meat fat, while the kimchi cut through the richness, so I kept reaching for it. But the potatoes themselves were so good that my child took almost all of them—not a secret haha.

Meat with angelica leaves and basil
The meat is delicious with angelica leaves too
Unusually, they served these fragrant greens separately. There was basil and angelica leaf, and they were seriously the perfect finishing touch.

Eating the meat with myeonginamul, angelica leaf or basil, and fresh wasabi turned out to be an unexpectedly great combination too. I tend to like aromatic vegetables, both basil and angelica leaf, so I really loved it.

Having fragrant greens with fatty meat like pork belly made my mouth feel much cleaner. If you want more than just delicious meat while searching for pork belly near Daegu Shinsegae, Hubaldae will probably stay in your memory for its fun pairings too.
Crisp, savory Korean beef daechang
You really have to order the daechang
And then, the daechang. It was so delicious I was like, what is going on here? ㅠㅠ

It was crisp on the outside and savory and tender inside, and the saddest part was having to eat it without beer haha.

Its distinctive savory flavor was really alive, so I think I would have felt a little disappointed if we had left after eating only pork belly.

If you go to Hubaldae and love meat, you absolutely have to try the daechang. Next time, I want to go on a day when I can really drink beer and start with the daechang.

Spicy house ramen to finish
Finish with the spicy house ramen
After we finished the meat, we ordered the house ramen too. After grilled meat, you want a sip of spicy broth, right? This ramen was exactly that kind of finishing dish.

It cleared away the richness, and the broth had a nice spicy kick, so it was great after the meat. On a drinking day, I think it would also be good to have alongside drinks.

I really wanted to try the fried rice too, but eating out with a three-year-old cannot last long..ㅠㅠ
A place I would return to for meat near Dongdaegu Station
Hubaldae Dongdaegu Station Branch was convenient because the staff grill the meat, and it was nice having choices beyond pork belly and pork neck, including daechang and tripe.

More than anything, the combinations with honey potatoes, kimchi, myeonginamul, angelica leaf, and fresh wasabi really stayed with me. If you are looking for a meat restaurant near Dongdaegu Station, pork belly near Daegu Shinsegae, or grilled meat around Sincheon-dong,

the meat is delicious and the sides make it fun, so it is worth a visit. Next time, I am planning to order daechang before pork belly and properly enjoy it with beer haha.
