This is a place I always stop by before heading to Sajik Baseball Stadium in Busan. I never skip it when I am on my way to old Busan~

Let’s head to Somunnan Gaya Milmyeon (소문난가야밀면), a great milmyeon spot near Busan City Hall and not far from Sajik Baseball Stadium!

It is a great milmyeon restaurant with a real old-school feel. There is no separate parking lot, so keep that in mind~ I usually park briefly across from the shop. It does not take that long to eat milmyeon, after all, haha.

Milmyeon that was perfect without filling up too much

The prices are really low, right?!! Milmyeon itself is not such an expensive food, so should I call it a great-value snack?? We had actually eaten hamburgers in Daegu before setting off, but once we arrived, we still wanted something before the game! We did not want to get too full, but once we got to the ballpark, we needed to focus on baseball, so eating was not that important! Hahaha.

A place visited by lots of YouTubers! Since milmyeon is a Busan specialty, it is very popular. It definitely has a charm that is different from naengmyeon (cold buckwheat noodles).

A high-jump athlete visited too! There is an autograph from a high-jump athlete as well~ Hahaha!

From hot broth to milmyeon with slushy ice

As soon as you arrive, out comes the broth kettle! Ta-da! Since milmyeon is cold, you need to warm up your insides with hot broth first~ This broth is seriously delicious. It whets your appetite too—so, so good!

Less than five minutes after ordering, Busan’s famous milmyeon arrived. It comes with little pieces of slushy ice floating on top. I was going to order a large portion, but I had to eat something at the ballpark too, so I just ordered the regular size.

Mild seasoning and crisp cucumber

The sauce on top is not that spicy, so you do not need to worry too much~ It is mild enough for even an elementary-school kid to eat, so it hardly feels right to call it spicy~ I would say it just adds a little kick to the lightly seasoned milmyeon?!

Personally, what I love about the milmyeon here is the thinly sliced cucumber on top. Eating it with cucumber instead of just noodles really brings out that extra crisp texture, which makes it even nicer to eat!

Our Number One, who takes after me in loving noodles, goes absolutely crazy for the milmyeon here too~ Hahaha. That is how much they love it~ I really think this is Busan’s number-one milmyeon.

What adds a little more substance to the cool, lightly seasoned milmyeon? Dumplings! Eating noodles alone can feel a little lacking, so I think dumplings are an essential order to make it more filling.

Busan’s specialty milmyeon is perfectly suited as a snack and substantial enough for a full meal! And Somunnan Gaya Milmyeon is the place that does it best.

Once you cut it up into easy-to-eat pieces, it goes down so easily that you can finish the milmyeon in no time! The appeal of these noodles... how should I put it... they are thicker than janchi-guksu (banquet noodle soup) but thinner than udon, with a springy texture that feels a little different from naengmyeon. Anyway, I think that is why they taste even better~

If you come to Busan, you really must try milmyeon! There seem to be plenty of places selling it elsewhere these days too~ Still, milmyeon tastes different when you come here and eat it locally! Hahaha!

The night at Sajik was beautiful, but the game completely fell apart again... Sob sob sob... A place I want to visit again next time!!
