In short

Two people visited at 18:00 on a weekday and paid 29,900 won per adult for 2 hours of unlimited grilling, cooking freshwater eel, pork belly and chicken neck meat over charcoal and refilling meat and side dishes from the self-serve bar. I'd been craving eel for a while, so my boyfriend and I set a dinner date! While searching for local Seongsu-dong restaurants, I found Songnim Bok Jangeo Unlimited Freshwater Eel Seongsu Branch, which lets you eat all the eel you want on an unlimited course. It's a bit of a walk from Seongsu Station, but the thought of eel had me booking a reservation right away!
Songnim Bok Jangeo Seongsu Branch menu and prices

The unlimited course is ₩29,900 for adults and ₩14,000 for children. For 2 hours you can eat as much eel, pork belly, and chicken neck meat as you want, and takeout orders are also available. Ilpum Jinro is ₩32,000 and Hwayo is ₩29,000, and extra side dishes can be grabbed yourself. Checking the origin label, the freshwater eel, duck neck, and chicken neck were all domestic, which made me feel good about eating there haha.

What comes on the first plate and what's on the self-serve bar

After we sat down, while the charcoal was heating up, side dishes like kimchi and ginger came out first. Five side dishes were set out — perilla leaves, ginger, green onion kimchi and more — and they gave us a bottle of bokbunja (Korean black raspberry) wine on the house!

The first plate came out as an assorted platter with pork belly, chicken neck meat, pork skin, and eel all together, so we started grilling that first. The eel came in three pieces — you grill it yourself!

Once we'd worked through the first plate, we could start bringing over whatever meat we wanted from the self-serve bar. The bar had thick-cut pork belly and pork neck, plenty of ginger, peppers, kimchi, and other vegetables and side dishes. Plates, baskets, salt containers, and water bottles were all stacked up for customers to grab themselves. Every side dish paired well with the meat — nothing you'd skip over, haha.

Unlimited freshwater eel: how to grill it and what to eat it with

Since it had been a while since I'd had eel, I loaded my plate mostly with eel. The eel at Songnim Bok Jangeo Unlimited Freshwater Eel Seongsu Branch was thick and substantial, and one bite released a rush of oil. There was a 3-step sign at the entrance explaining how to grill eel deliciously — grill the skin side first, and trim off the fins before eating, they advised.

The owner was so kind — I was debating whether to ask for the grill plate to be swapped or whether the fire was too weak, and they noticed like magic and swapped it right away. Eating the eel with ginger or wrapped in white kimchi cut through the richness perfectly. The ginger also added a crunchy texture that kept me reaching for more. True to a Seongsu-dong all-you-can-eat eel spot, the eel was so thick and tasty I lost count of how many plates I refilled >_=

How good are the pork belly and chicken neck meat?

Eel alone felt like it wasn't quite enough, so we grabbed a few pieces of pork belly too. But then we got so into eating we forgot to take photos... The chicken neck meat came pre-seasoned a bit, which was great for adding a new flavor when eating plain grilled meat started to feel repetitive. Looking around at nearby tables, there were middle-aged men, couples, even soldiers — all kinds of customers, which confirmed this really is a local Seongsu-dong favorite. I heard the ramyeon here is delicious, but I was too full to try it, which I regret ㅜㅜ
Verdict: is 29,900 won for 2 hours of eel in Seongsu-dong worth it?
Songnim Bok Jangeo Unlimited Freshwater Eel Seongsu Branch let us eat our fill of eel, pork belly, and chicken neck meat for 2 hours, which made it really good value. And since it's all cooked over charcoal, that makes it even better!

The eel in particular was thick and delicious, and eating it with ginger or white kimchi balanced out the richness nicely. Being able to grab as much meat and side dishes as we wanted from the self-serve bar, plus the free bokbunja wine, made the whole meal even more satisfying! Next time I definitely have to try the ramyeon.
