Seongsu Thai restaurant for family dining: mu thod curry at Thanon55
In short
Thanon55 is a Thai restaurant on Ttukseom-ro 9-gil in Seongdong-gu, Seoul, up a flight of stairs to a second-floor room with yellow walls and Thai decorations. On a family visit we ordered four dishes — beef rice noodle soup with extra noodles and bean sprouts, mu thod curry in size S, shrimp pad thai and pad kra pao moo sap — and finished every one. A self-service bar and tablet ordering make the meal easy, and since Thanon55 has no parking, public transit is the better way to come.

Thanon55
Today I'm introducing Thanon55, a Thai restaurant in Seongsu-dong. I visited with my family while we were out in Seongsu haha. We're a family that loves Thai food, so we walked in with high expectations — and both the food and the atmosphere were super satisfying!
Please check the photo above for business hours! There's a break time, so it's good to check before you visit.

Where is Thanon55, and what is the second-floor space like?
Thanon55 is tucked into a Seongsu alley at 16 Ttukseom-ro 9-gil. I found it while walking through the Seongsu backstreets! The sign alone has such a strong Thai vibe that it catches your eye from far away. Standing in front of it kind of made me feel like I was on a trip lol.

You go up to the second floor via a staircase!

The interior was cuter and had a better atmosphere than I expected. Yellow walls decorated with Thai-style plates and props!

Thanon55's self-service bar and tablet ordering
There was also a self-service bar set up on one side of Thanon55, where you could freely grab any bowls or side dishes you needed.

Aprons were also provided,

and everything was already set up at the table like this.

Ordering was easy through the tablet on the table!

What's on the menu at Thanon55?
I took photos of the whole menu, and there were way more options than I expected. From pho and pad thai to all kinds of Thai dishes, we spent a long time debating what to order ㅜ.ㅜ It's not in the photo, but they also had a dish called yum woon sen!

Beyond the food, they also had unique drinks like Thai beer and milk tea, so it was nice being able to pick according to your taste 🤤
What we ordered was
- Beef pho + extra noodles and bean sprouts
- Mu thod curry S
- Shrimp pad thai
- Pad kra pao moo sap
— these four dishes!
Beef rice noodle soup with extra noodles and bean sprouts
First up, the beef pho (rice noodle soup)! We added extra noodles and bean sprouts, and the generous bean sprouts gave it a nice crunchy texture. The broth was clean but had that deep flavor from the meat — so refreshing.

It was really, seriously huge in portion, but we finished the whole thing...

Shrimp pad thai, heavy on fish sauce and ground peanuts
And the shrimp pad thai 🦐 that my dad really enjoyed. Plump, springy shrimp and perfectly balanced seasoning made it really tasty. It's good plain, but even better with a little fish sauce drizzled on top. I asked for extra peanut powder and piled it on — the nutty flavor really added something, so I recommend eating it the way we did!

Our favorite dish: pad kra pao moo sap
This one's my absolute favorite — pad kra pao moo sap (stir-fried minced pork with basil). Eating the savory stir-fried meat together with rice was incredibly umami. I mixed it well with the egg on top and cleaned my plate (a flavor no Korean could dislike...).

What exactly is mu thod curry in size S?
Mu thod curry is a dish of crispy fried meat served with a soft curry!

Think of the meat as kind of like tonkatsu (breaded pork cutlet),

and the curry has this super soft, almost egg-like texture that felt refreshingly different. It has its own charm distinct from pho or stir-fried noodles, and I enjoyed it a lot!

Parking and tips for visiting Thanon55
In the end we cleaned our plates completely lol. Everyone in the family enjoyed it so much — a totally satisfying family dinner out. Parking isn't available, so I'd recommend taking public transit!
From the atmosphere to the food, everything was full of Thai vibes, and we had a really delicious meal with the family! If you're craving Thai food in Seongsu, Thanon55 is worth a visit :) Every single dish we ordered was delicious, so I'd recommend just ordering the same things if you go.
