Family dinner with kids at Sindang-dong Korean BBQ: Beefjeong Gogi Jip

In short

Beefjeong Gogi Jip is a Korean BBQ restaurant on Toegye-ro 74-gil in Sindang-dong, Seoul, where the meat is hand-picked at Majang-dong market. Over dinner with her young nephew, the writer ordered the sow set (pork neck, pork belly and gabrisal), flash-frozen pork belly, corn cheese egg custard and Korean beef chadol buldak noodles, and the owner even brought a drink for the little one. Beefjeong Gogi Jip turned out to be a Sindang-dong grill house that works just as well for a family dinner with kids.

I was in Sindang-dong trying to figure out dinner, and ended up at Beefjeong Gogi Jip — a spot with a hip vibe that's also famous for its meat. The atmosphere is cool, but the food was genuinely delicious and the owner was so kind that even with a kid in tow, the whole visit was really satisfying. The whole family walked out happy, so here's my honest, all-around-happy review.

Where is Beefjeong Gogi Jip and what are its hours?

Beefjeong Gogi Jip is a Korean BBQ restaurant located at 6 Toegye-ro 74-gil, 1st floor, Jung-gu, Seoul, in Sindang-dong, open from 16:00 to 24:00. It's a great spot for meat and a drink in the evening. It's also within a 5-minute walk of Sindang-dong's famous tteokbokki (spicy rice cake) alley, so it's perfect for dinner after exploring the neighborhood.

Standing sign outside Beefjeong Gogi Jip

Beefjeong Gogi Jip goes to Majang-dong (Seoul's meat wholesale market) every single day to hand-select the meat, so you get that same freshness you'd expect eating right at Majang-dong. Haha, the owner's sense of humor — the sign out front cracked me up. "Beefjeong, avid viewer of Culinary Class Wars"... so cute.

Inside Beefjeong Gogi Jip: seating and atmosphere

Interior of Beefjeong Gogi Jip with its 6–7 tables

Beefjeong Gogi Jip has about 6–7 tables. I'd recommend reserving ahead for group visits. The place isn't huge, but the tables aren't cramped, and the interior was nice and cool, so we could eat comfortably. We visited past 8pm and it was still completely full.

Notice of the 2-hour meal time limit

Just so you know, when there's a wait, meal time is limited to 2 hours!

Aprons hang on one wall too, so you can grab one if you need it. Even the aprons here aren't plain... what even is this place.

What we ordered at Beefjeong Gogi Jip, and an honest review

Basic table setting and side dishes at Beefjeong Gogi Jip

Once we sat down, they brought out a generous spread of side dishes. The kimchi especially was genuinely so good, I could cry. They also had both beef and pork selected fresh from Majang-dong that day, so there was a nice range of choices.

Here's what we ordered at Beefjeong Gogi Jip that day.

  • Beefjeong sow set
  • Flash-frozen pork belly
  • Corn cheese egg custard
  • Korean beef chadol buldak noodles

The sow set: pork neck, pork belly and gabrisal

Beefjeong Gogi Jip's sow set

First up, the Beefjeong sow set. We were told it's about 2–3 servings' worth, so we ordered one set first, planning to order more of whichever cut we liked best. The set includes pork neck, belly, and gabrisal (skirt-adjacent cut). (Doenjang jjigae, or soybean paste stew, is included too!)

Meat on the grill with aged kimchi and potatoes

Once the grill heated up, they skillfully grilled the meat for us, along with the aged kimchi and potatoes that came as side dishes.

Golden-grilled pork belly and pork neck

The pork belly had just the right ratio of chewy fat to lean meat, so it was wonderfully chewy and delicious, and the pork neck was nutty and really tender. There was zero funky smell from the meat, and it had this depth of flavor like it had been aged. Seriously, seriously so good.

Extra order of pork belly and pork neck

The gabrisal was tasty too, but we wanted more of the classics — belly and neck — so we ordered extra of those. I usually prefer pork neck, but here the belly had just the right amount of fat and was so chewy that it was incredible. Looks delicious just from the photo, right?

Dark-colored doenjang jjigae included with the set

The doenjang jjigae comes included with the sow set. The color was really dark, which surprised me, but the flavor was truly rich and spicy — exactly what a good BBQ-restaurant doenjang jjigae should taste like. It was packed full of ingredients, and I ate it in awe. Honestly, I want to try every single side dish here.

Flash-frozen pork belly with aged kimchi

A plate of thinly sliced flash-frozen pork belly

Before visiting, I'd read a lot of reviews saying the flash-frozen pork belly was delicious, so I ordered it as an extra. It comes out thinly sliced, and since it's so thin, it cooks quickly — a nice plus.

Grilled flash-frozen pork belly paired with aged kimchi

The frozen pork belly was genuinely so tender, and eating it with rice and aged kimchi was pure magic — my hand kept reaching for more. Nutty, tender, truly delicious. And the pairing with aged kimchi — need I say more? Everyone, promise me you'll try the frozen pork belly when you go...

Corn cheese egg custard and Korean beef chadol buldak noodles

Corn cheese egg custard topped with cheese and corn kernels

And the corn cheese egg custard we ordered. The visual is overwhelming, right? With cheese and corn kernels piled on top, the egg custard tasted even better.

Drinks and meat spread on the table

And the owner here is genuinely so kind and funny, oh my gosh. Thanks to the owner, the whole meal was such a fun time. While the adults were toasting, the owner even brought over a drink for my nephew so he could join the toast too. What a thoughtful touch.

Korean beef chadol buldak noodles

Last but not least, the Korean beef chadol buldak (spicy stir-fried) noodles we ordered. I already love buldak, but eating it with meat really cuts through the richness. The owner is great at cooking ramyeon too, apparently. Everything from the meat to the sides was delicious across the board — I was extremely, extremely satisfied (genuinely).

Finally, a shot of the owner playing with my nephew. Beefjeong Gogi Jip has great meat, but the staff and the owner are so cheerful and kind that the whole meal put me in an even better mood. Also worth noting — for special occasions, if you order 4 or more servings, they'll turn the meat into a cake shape for free! Next time, I'm planning to come back for the Majang-dong beef. Overall, a very satisfying, honest review of Beefjeong Gogi Jip.
