Gyeongju mochi shop retry after sellout, yogurt cream wins: Tareudang
In short
Tareudang is a giant fruit mochi takeout shop on Hwangnidang-gil in Gyeongju, right in front of Goyu. An earlier trip ended in a sellout, so this second visit meant a 5-minute wait for three flavors — gold kiwi, peach yogurt and mango yogurt — and the yogurt cream ones beat the red bean gold kiwi. Each Tareudang mochi is more than twice the size of a bite-sized one, so a single piece is filling.

Where is Tareudang and where can you park on Hwangnidang-gil?
Tareudang, a dessert spot in Gyeongju's Hwangnidang-gil, is tucked in cutely right in front of Goyu. It's a pretty small place, so you could easily walk right past it, but the Hwangnam Mochi Tareudang signboard is easy to spot so I found it right away! 🅿️ I'd recommend using the nearby public parking lots * Hwangnam public parking lot: 3 min walk * Daereungwon public parking lot: 8 min walk * Bonghwangdae public parking lot: 10 min walk

Sold out on the first trip, a 5-minute wait on the second
Tareudang on Hwangnidang-gil is a takeout-only spot, great for popping in quickly. When I visited there was a bit of a line, so I waited about 5 minutes before I could buy anything. Last time I visited I unfortunately missed out because everything had sold out, but this time I got lucky with the timing and got to try it! I guess since it's such a hot spot in Gyeongju, things sell out fast too.

What desserts does Tareudang sell?
Tareudang sells a variety of desserts including giant mochi, gotgam sando, and tarts. The giant mochi ✨ is probably the hottest item right now. They had dried persimmon yogurt, plain chocolate, fig yogurt, peach yogurt, mango yogurt, and gold kiwi flavors available. Desserts with yogurt in them always make me a little worried about weight gain, but Tareudang's yogurt mochi is low-sugar, so no worries at all!!

The three mochi flavors ordered, each over twice a bite-sized mochi
I ordered 3 kinds of giant fruit mochi — gold kiwi, peach yogurt, and mango yogurt 🥝🍑🥭 Just like the name suggests, they were huge, I was so surprised! The Hanjeongseon mochi I had a while back was bite-sized ,, but Tareudang's are really more than double that size.

Free cooler bag at Tareudang with a Naver photo review
Since I was planning to eat the mochi right after I got them, I didn't add a cooler bag, but apparently if you write a Naver photo review you can get a free box + cooler bag. Good to know if you're planning to take them to go 💛

Peach yogurt mochi: rice cake skin dusted with castella crumbs
Let's start with the peach yogurt mochi 〰️ Look how chewy it is, it stretches so much!! The mochi skin was dusted with soft castella crumbs, which gave it a different feel from regular fruit mochi, pretty unique.

Gold kiwi red bean vs yogurt cream: which mochi tasted better?
Since it's a giant mochi, the fruit and yogurt cream inside are generous. The sweet fruit juice paired nicely with the yogurt's freshness, it wasn't too sweet so it was easy to eat without feeling heavy, and the size was so big that one was filling enough. The gold kiwi with red bean had its own charm too, but I still prefer the ones with yogurt cream a bit more ,, ❤︎ If you're craving something sweet on your Gyeongju trip, I'd recommend visiting Tareudang to try the giant fruit mochi :)
