Hwangnidang-gil fruit mochi eaten on the street in Gyeongju: Tareudang
In short
Tareudang is a fresh fruit mochi shop on Hwangnidang-gil in Gyeongju, near the Olive Young intersection. On a Tuesday at 1pm there was no wait, and mango yogurt mochi (7,500 won), fig mochi (5,500 won) and gold kiwi mochi (5,500 won) were bought and eaten right there on the street, with soft rice cake skin dusted in castella crumbs instead of starch and a whole fresh mango inside. Of the three, the mango yogurt mochi was the top pick for its sweet-tart balance.

🍽️ Tareudang 📍 Address: 49 Sajeong-ro, Gyeongju-si, Gyeongbuk, South Korea ⏰ Hours: Daily 11:00–19:00
It's been a while since I went to Gyeongju, and I ate so many good things while I was there~~ Among them, let me introduce Tareudang, a Hwangnidang-gil dessert spot known for its fruit mochi that's super hot right now. There are so many mochi flavors, so I hope my review helps you pick! (๑•̀ω•́๑)
Where is Tareudang? Near the Olive Young intersection on Hwangnidang-gil
Tareudang is easy to find since it's right around the intersection where the Olive Young is on Hwangnidang-gil in Gyeongju! As you walk along Hwangnidang-gil, you'll spot cute little dessert shops everywhere :)

Among them, the fruit mochi that's trending right now~~🍓🍑🍍🥭 A sudden craving hit right after lunch!!

Was there a wait at Tareudang at 1pm on a Tuesday?
I heard that if you go too late to Tareudang, the popular menu items sell out, so I rushed over right after lunch! For reference, we visited around 1pm on a Tuesday. I was worried there'd be a line, but since it was a weekday, we could buy right away 😘
Tareudang's principle is same-day made, same-day sold, and they say they use fresh, high-sugar fruit, domestic glutinous rice, and handmade cream. The menu wasn't just fresh fruit mochi — they also sell egg tarts and yangzi ganlu. Since it's fall season, they were also selling dried persimmon sandwiches haha. If you're visiting on a weekend, I'd recommend getting there quickly since the popular items do sell out~~!
Tareudang menu and mochi prices

- Giant fruit mochi: dried persimmon yogurt, mango yogurt, gold kiwi, pineapple, fig, peach, Dubai raw chocolate
- Tarts: plain egg tart, mango egg tart, brûlée cheesecake tart, mango cheesecake tart
- Yangzi ganlu
- Dried persimmon sando: strawberry, red bean butter fig, injeolmi (rice cake) red bean butter, ube coconut, black sesame walnut, matcha pistachio

Strawberry and tangerine were out of season and weren't available right now, and I agonized SO much over what to pick — in the end we went with mango yogurt mochi, fig mochi, and gold kiwi mochi. I was worried the mango yogurt mochi would be sold out since the people ahead of us had cleared it all out, but luckily there was more in another fridge, so I got the mango yogurt one!! 👍👍
If you buy 4 or more, you get ₩500 off each, so you can save at least ₩2,000. Just FYI~~

Cooler bag packaging and what to bring if you eat on the street
Tareudang offers cooler bag packaging (+₩1,000), but it's free if you write a photo review. We were going to eat right away, so we skipped it. If you're planning to eat on the street like us, definitely bring tissues or napkins~! Be prepared to get some on your hands or mouth~~~ haha. There are also chairs and a public restroom halfway along Hwangnidang-gil, so you could eat there too.
Taste review: mango yogurt, fig and gold kiwi mochi

They're not labeled separately — they're distinguished by color. First up, mango yogurt mochi!!🥭 It has a whole fresh mango inside, so the shape is a bit elongated! Unlike other shops' mochi, Tareudang's skin is dusted with soft castella powder instead of starch.
I tried hard to show you a pretty cross-section, but well, it's a street, so… the love. So I got a little help from AI hahaha. I'll attach the original at the very end.. hahaha

Instead of regular starch powder, the castella powder coating gave it a soft, chewy feel rather than a dry one. Of the three flavors, my clear top pick was the mango yogurt mochi!! The skin thickness was just right, the fresh mango was super sweet, and the yogurt was just tart enough — a perfect balance~~ It was so good!!!❣️
Next up, fig mochi. Figs have been taking over my algorithm lately, so there was no way I could pass this up!! haha

Except for the yogurt mochi, all the other fruit mochi have red bean paste inside. The subtle sweetness of the fig combined with the red bean paste made for perfect sweetness!! It went so well with the fig 🍂🍁 Since figs are only available in fall, I'd recommend the fig mochi too!!
Next, gold kiwi mochi. I really couldn't bring myself to show the kiwi mochi as-is haha. For the sake of everyone's eyes 🥝🥝🥝 — since it's gold kiwi, it's sweeter rather than tart❣️ This one was delicious too!!

The mochi a passerby stopped to ask about
Were we eating too happily…? A passerby suddenly walked up to us and asked, "What is that? Where can I buy it?" hahaha 🤣🤣 I immediately told them where we got it, and the two of them dashed off in that direction — I hope it was to their taste…❣️
Dun dun.. here's the original photo!! From now on I might need to carry a fruit knife around… I asked my boyfriend to help get a pretty cross-section shot, and he tried, but… sorry.

Final verdict on Tareudang's fruit mochi
Tareudang's mochi lets you enjoy the charm of seasonal fruit paired with soft mochi~~!! There are plenty of other desserts to try while exploring Hwangnidang-gil in Gyeongju, but if you're looking for something fresh and different, definitely give this a try~!
