Late-night solo dining and half-and-half gimbap in Seocho: Halls

In short

Halls Gimbap Main Branch (홀스김밥본점) is a gimbap and fried chicken spot five minutes from Exit 1 of Seocho Station in Seoul. Visiting after 7pm on a weekday, the writer tried a half-and-half Halls gimbap and wasabi gimbap roll, Jindo green onion tuna gimbap, and double-cheese egg gimbap — all rice rolls with less rice, packed fillings, and black rice. With plenty of solo seats and a self-service system, it's an easy spot for solo dining in Seocho even late in the evening.

Weekdays it's open from 8:30am to 8pm, and Saturdays from 8am to 3pm. Being open so early, it's also great for grabbing a quick breakfast before work. There are about 4 dedicated parking spots beside the building — I'd recommend calling ahead before visiting.

Inside the shop — how's solo dining at the single seats?

Interior of Halls Gimbap Main Branch on a weekday evening

I visited after 7pm on a weekday for a late dinner. Even close to closing time, the shop was busy with both delivery and dine-in orders.

The inside was bigger than expected. With so many single seats, solo lunch dining isn't a burden here, and since everything is self-service, you can eat quickly even during the lunch rush — a real Seocho favorite.

The menu lineup and the half-and-half gimbap

The menu is broadly split into gimbap, fried chicken, sets, and tteokbokki (spicy rice cakes).

Order kiosk at the entrance of the shop

I ordered at the kiosk by the entrance. Cash payment or Zero Pay is handled at the counter! With so many tasty options, it was hard to decide which gimbap to get — but Halls Gimbap Main Branch has a half-and-half option, so you can get two kinds of gimbap in one roll 🤍🤍 There are also fried chicken and gimbap sets, great if you want a heartier meal! Prices start in the low ₩10,000s, which felt reasonable for Gangnam-area prices 😋

They also sell several kinds of cup noodles. If you're missing some broth with your meal, pairing it with cup noodles is a nice treat 🤣

Self-serve bonito broth station

If you want broth without committing to noodles, you can also scoop a cup of the bonito broth to sip alongside your meal. No added seasoning, so the flavor was much cleaner.

Three rolls of gimbap, ordered

  • Jindo green onion tuna gimbap ₩7,000
  • Double-cheese egg gimbap ₩7,000
A roll of half-and-half Halls gimbap and wasabi gimbap

I ordered the Halls gimbap and wasabi half-and-half. Two flavors in one roll — the owner's sense of style is really something 😆 Less rice, packed fillings — it looked amazing from the visuals alone. The rice was black rice too, so it felt healthy. Turns out this place used to be Seocho *To Gimbap under a different name. Only the shop name changed — the owner, kitchen staff, everyone else is exactly the same as before!

Halls gimbap

One bite of the Halls gimbap and I knew right away! ..!! ..! The feeling of a truly legendary taste came over me!!! Above all, the seasoning was insane. Not overpowering, just the right savoriness, blending beautifully with the fragrant vegetables so it was so delicious haha. Add the softness of egg and salty-sweet fish cake, and it's an Avengers lineup of gimbap ✨

Wasabi gimbap

The wasabi gimbap has oak leaf lettuce and romaine inside, which added a crisp, refreshing touch — a real treat. And the sharp kick of wasabi on top!

Double-cheese egg gimbap with chunky egg and cheese

Double-cheese egg gimbap

Honestly, after one bite I already decided I needed to take some home too. I've eaten a lot of gimbap, but this was the best I've had this year 🥰 The double-cheese egg gimbap features chunky egg plus cheese for a soft, savory flavor. It's the mildest of the four rolls, but thanks to the perilla leaf inside, I kept reaching for more. Great for kids too.

Jindo green onion tuna gimbap

A tuna gimbap that's almost 70% tuna 🍙 — a real Seocho gimbap favorite. The finely diced pickled radish and cabbage had great texture, and the perilla leaf cut the richness, so I finished the roll in no time. Less mayo, more tuna, packed with protein. Also a solid one-meal option for anyone watching their diet.

All four rolls were delicious, but personally the Halls gimbap hit my taste the most. If you're looking for a solo dining favorite near Seocho Station, give Halls Gimbap Main Branch a try.
