Truffle flat carbonara at Seongsu Darak, a Seongsu pasta restaurant

In short

Seongsu Darak is an omurice and pasta restaurant on the 2nd floor of a building down an alley off Exit 3 of Seongsu Station in Seongdong, Seoul. Arriving on a weekday close to 2pm still meant queuing on the stairs at Seongsu Darak before ordering the spicy crab risotto (₩19,000), the flat carbonara (₩19,000) and the katsu sando (₩12,000). The flat carbonara in its rich truffle cream sauce and the risotto topped with a whole snow crab leg were both can't-go-wrong picks.

Seongsu brunch pasta and omurice spot: Seongsu Darak

Why we chose Seongsu Darak for omurice and pasta on a Seongsu date

Went to Seongsu-dong for a date after a while~ There's so much to see on a Seongsu date, but there are also so many Seongsu restaurants that just picking a menu is half the fun ^^ What do you feel like eating?! Anything come to mind?! We were thinking maybe mulberry ade, and while looking around we came across Seongsu Darak, an omurice-and-pasta Seongsu restaurant.

Omurice?! It seems simple but it's actually a hassle to make at home so I never do, and I thought "should we get omurice for once?!" and went there — but there was so much other good-looking stuff it made me forget about omurice haha

Seongsu Darak location and where to park near Seongsu Station

By subway, Seongsu Darak is close to Seongsu Station Exit 3, located inside the alley to the left after passing Daelim Changgo and the Musinsa Megastore. There's no parking in front of the building, but there's a private lot and a public lot about a 1-minute walk away.

Stairs behind a picture frame, and the weekday 2pm wait at Seongsu Darak

Seongsu Darak was unusual from the entrance — you open a picture frame and there are stairs going up like into a loft. It was close to 2pm on a weekday so I didn't expect a wait~ but the line started right here >.<

While waiting, they handed us the menu first, so we could pick what we wanted while chatting and then get seated. When I was little, if there was a loft-like space I always thought there was some treasure hidden there, and climbing these stairs gave me a bit of that same thrill ^^

Inside the 2nd and 3rd floors: window seats at Seongsu Darak

The window side has full glass too, so it wasn't stuffy and felt nice and open. Depending on the time of day, when the sun got too strong they drew these curtains, which was good — but sunlight pouring in by the window would probably feel warm and pretty atmospheric too ^^

Seongsu Darak menu and signature dishes

Seongsu Darak's signature dishes include Darak omurice, pork neck steak, rosé pasta, spicy crab risotto, katsu sando, corn gnocchi, and more — lots of Seongsu brunch options~ The food was tasty overall, and the plating was pretty too, so this could be a great Seongsu date course.

_ What we ordered at Seongsu Darak _ Spicy crab risotto, flat carbonara, katsu sando

Table setting with the three ordered dishes at Seongsu Darak
  • Spicy crab risotto ₩19,000
  • Flat carbonara ₩19,000
  • Katsu sando ₩12,000

Picking one thing at a time, in the end... bye omurice.. lol I'll eat you next time haha But a lot of the tables around us were ordering the signature omurice~

Spicy crab risotto ₩19,000, topped with a whole snow crab leg

The spicy crab risotto has a spicy chili-oil base topped with crab meat.

Just looking at the menu, I thought "it says crab meat, but is it actually just imitation crab stick?!" — but there really was a whole snow crab leg in there ^^ It was picked so cleanly you could pull the meat right out — pulling out crab meat and eating the spicy risotto at the same time~

I worried the egg yolk might mellow out the spiciness too much, but it stayed pleasantly spicy and smooth and was delicious ^^

A plate of flat carbonara topped with egg yolk

Flat carbonara ₩19,000 in a rich truffle cream sauce

For the flat carbonara, I popped the yolk and mixed it well, then tried the sauce first — rich and nutty carbonara sauce. It's a truffle cream sauce so the aroma is strong and the sauce overall is rich, and it was delicious >.<

Flat carbonara noodles lifted with a spoon

Since the noodles are these flat ones in the carbonara, a spoon works better than a fork lol, and chewing them is way more fun than regular pasta noodles.

Katsu sando ₩12,000, served with coleslaw on top

The katsu sando is a pork cutlet sandwich made with loin katsu! The staff explained to put the coleslaw on the side on top of it, so I followed along and tried it that way — the juicy katsu with the tangy coleslaw together wasn't greasy at all and was delicious.

Later I even put some carbonara sauce on top of the katsu sando, and since the pasta sauce is so thick and rich, it went really well with the sando too ^^

Is Seongsu Darak worth the wait? Final verdict

Seongsu Darak felt unusual right from the entrance, and it lived up to that with rich, thick pasta and risotto in that strong cream sauce, plus a katsu sando that's great to share — a can't-go-wrong choice all around ^^ When I visited, over 80% of the guests were foreign tourists, so it seems like this is already a known hot spot in Seongsu-dong among international visitors >.<
