"Craving Braised Pollock Right Now": the exterior and interior of a Bongcheon Station Korean restaurant

As a beloved local spot among neighborhood residents, it has a classic, homey exterior. The witty sign reading "You're craving braised pollock right now!" catches your eye from far away. I felt drawn in, almost cozy, as I walked through the door.

This was my first time seeing a braised pollock specialty restaurant with such a pretty interior. Braised pollock (kodari) is one of those dishes you'd recommend for a family meal with mom and dad, right? So a lot of restaurants serving it tend to be plain and old-fashioned. But Sangdo Neulbori Bongcheon Station Branch has traditional lanterns covering the ceiling, giving off a soft, cozy glow that's really pretty. That upgrades the atmosphere into a comfortable place for conversation over a meal~
From weekday lunch specials to takeout discounts: pollock, octopus, and barley rice menu

Here's the menu. Check out the weekday lunch special prices: braised pollock ₩13,000 per person, duck-octopus ("okumi") hot plate set ₩14,000 per person. Very affordable, great value, and served until 3pm with plenty of time to spare — so even if your morning is busy, no stress. A great place for brunch or a late lunch.
The main dish, braised pollock, comes in three versions — original, with dried radish greens, or with abalone — so you can pick your favorite. The hot plate octopus dishes are also popular mains: duck and octopus combined (okumi hot plate), chives and octopus combined (buchu-jjukkumi hot plate), and a chives-octopus-pork belly hot plate.
Other rice dishes include a traditional barley rice set that comes with seasonal greens, doenjang stew (soybean paste stew), and steamed egg, as well as cockle bibimbap made with fresh Beolgyo cockles, fragrant minari (water parsley), and five vegetables mixed with a house-made soy sauce dressing. There's a long list of tasty side dishes too — seasoned bandaengi (sprat) sashimi, seasoned cockles, buckwheat crepes, and rice cake steak — plus soju, beer, makgeolli, cheongha, baekseju, and bokbunja wine for anyone who likes a drink with their meal.
On weekdays at lunch, come for the wallet-friendly lunch specials; on weekday evenings and weekends, pair the spicy dishes with a drink. Great for solo dining, date nights, family outings with your parents, or group gatherings.
Rice-thief braised pollock and the well-matched lineup of basic side dishes

I was surprised at how good the basic side dishes were. Alongside the main dish came a deeply savory seaweed soup and crisp, refreshing dongchimi (watery radish kimchi) to offset the spicy flavors.

The seaweed soup broth was so rich and hearty that I immediately ordered a bottle of soju. There were also mild seasoned bean sprouts, sweet-and-tangy seaweed salad and lettuce salad, and cucumber-pepper doenjang mix and roasted seaweed to whet the appetite.
And finally, a soft, pillowy steamed egg pudding that mellows out the spice — this whole spread was already generous with just the basic side dishes. Honestly, this alone could easily finish off a bowl of rice.
Braised dried pollock with dried radish greens, 3 fillets (serves 3) for ₩43,000, a drink with the parents
- Braised dried pollock with dried radish greens, 3 fillets (serves 3): ₩43,000
- Soju Chum Churum, 1 bottle: ₩5,000
- Total: ₩48,000
I went for a simple dinner with mom and dad, and since it had been a while since we'd shared a drink together, I just ordered one bottle of soju.

The dried radish greens were braised down to a soft, tender texture, and there were plenty of fluffy potatoes, adding to how generous the portion felt.

The sauce was spicy-sweet and rich, soaking deep into the fish — great eaten together with rice.

Both the pollock and the potatoes were cut big, so just looking at it was filling. The chunks of pollock were so big and heavy that my hand shook trying to pick them up with the tongs!

I was glad to find rice cake pieces mixed in. Chewy and delicious — I never knew rice cake could go this well with the pollock sauce.

You know it's even better when you wrap white rice, moist pollock flesh, and fragrant dried radish greens in a piece of savory roasted seaweed and eat it in one bite, right? My mom tried a bite of the rice and said it was delicious — asked if they used good-quality rice. Moms are picky, so you know it's a genuine neighborhood gem when your parents say it's good. There wasn't a grain of that sticky white rice left. My spoon just didn't stop moving that day.
Unlimited sungnyung, self-serve bibimbap corner, and event perks
While eating the pollock, I noticed other customers busily going back and forth somewhere — turns out there's an unlimited, all-you-can-eat self-serve corner!

A self-serve bibimbap corner with fresh ingredients (radish salad, fresh cabbage kimchi, seasoned bean sprouts) that you scoop and mix to your taste, and

a savory sungnyung (rice-scorched water) station ready to warm your stomach before or after the meal. And for guests who still want more, there are two ongoing event perks:

- Upload a proof photo on Instagram, KakaoTalk, Band, or Facebook and get your choice of a free buckwheat crepe or barley bibimbap
- Leave a Naver receipt review and get your choice of a free drink or soju/beer
So you can score these solid extra perks on top of everything else. Braised pollock, rice, sungnyung, bibimbap, buckwheat crepe, drinks, alcohol — all enjoyed at great value,,
Parents approved! A Bongcheon-dong Korean restaurant great for family gatherings
This is a place where my parents were satisfied trying the braised pollock, the combination of spicy-sweet sauce and tender dried radish greens absolutely excellent. I always worry mom and dad won't be impressed, but a restaurant that satisfies your parents is a real, genuine find. It felt great to have the whole family eat so well and so cheaply, all of us fully satisfied — it had been a while since that happened. If you're looking for a good braised pollock spot in Bongcheon, definitely check out Sangdo Neulbori Bongcheon Station Branch!
