Yeonnam-dong restaurant with egg-yolk truffle pasta: Hey Joji
In short
Hey Joji is an American home-style restaurant in Yeonnam-dong, Mapo, Seoul. For ₩35,000, I had white ragù truffle cream pasta, chicken tender Caesar salad, and lemonade, with the thick cream sauce and generous salad especially satisfying. Verdict: a memorable date meal in a wonderfully vintage setting.

An American home-style space in a Yeonnam-dong alley
Hey Joji
Walking through the alleys of Yeonnam-dong, Hey Joji is the kind of place that catches your eye at once. It is a Hongdae Entrance Station hot spot where you can feel the warm yet hip sensibility of an American home-style space.

It almost feels like a scene from a foreign film. Hey Joji is considered one of the must-visit Western restaurants in Yeonnam-dong, so I went in with high expectations for the food.
An American-house atmosphere filled with vintage pieces

Step inside and the green walls, contrasting vintage furniture, and nostalgic cartoon posters come together to create the unusual feeling of walking into an American teen movie. There are loads of framed familiar characters from back in the day—The Simpsons, Snoopy, Tom and Jerry, and Dalmatians—so there is plenty to look at, too.

In particular, the red vintage phone shaped like a fire hydrant, wine bottles, colorful cereal boxes, and even bottle caps were displayed so stylishly that you could really feel the owner’s eye. The exterior and interior are full of photo spots, so you can get a keeper shot anywhere~ I recommend it for a Yeonnam-dong couple’s date.
A menu of American home-style dishes and wine

Including the signature house steak, there are 12 varied dishes on the menu. There are distinctive pastas such as garlic squid oil pasta, jambon butter cheddar pasta, Cajun shrimp rosé pasta, white ragù truffle cream pasta, and bocconcini tomato pasta, as well as hearty rice dishes like jambalaya risotto and duck truffle cream risotto. From unusual chicken and waffles to sweet potato fries and corn ribs that are great on the side, plus chicken tender salad to freshen up your appetite... it is such a well-rounded menu. There is bound to be at least one dish for every taste.

Looking at the alcohol and drinks menu, wine corkage is available for ₩10,000, and you can choose red, white, or orange wine by the bottle or glass. Stella lager is available as well. There is also lemonade, cola, and Coke Zero, so it is easy to pick something that suits your taste. Everything looked so delicious that it took me quite a while to decide,,
Ordering white ragù truffle cream pasta and salad

You can order easily by QR code, and this is what I ordered.
- White ragù truffle cream pasta ₩16,000
- Chicken tender Caesar salad ₩13,000
- Lemonade ₩6,000
- Total ₩35,000
The tableware and lemonade arrived first. Even the dishes were custom-made for Hey Joji, and their distinctive vintage feel was completely my taste. The bright yellow plates, with the lettering “Hey! Enjoy your life from George,” put me in a good mood before the food had even arrived.
When you order an ₩6,000 ade elsewhere, you usually get about one cup the size of a chubby cola can, but this one was enormous, which made me happy. It even came with a big whole slice of lemon. One sip brought together lively, refreshing fizz and a strong bright lemon flavor. It was great for clearing and refreshing my palate throughout the meal.

The hearty chicken tender Caesar salad
The chicken tender Caesar salad came out shortly afterward.

It was topped generously with chicken tenders that were crisp outside and juicy inside, making it all the more filling.

The fresh, crisp romaine was evenly coated in rich, smooth Caesar dressing, giving it a refreshing yet deep flavor. The chicken tenders were much more substantial than I expected, so I thought there might not be enough salad—nope, I was full.
Truffle cream pasta mixed with egg yolk

This is the white ragù truffle cream pasta. A subtle truffle aroma kept lingering through the rich, thick, dense cream sauce. It gave the dish an even more luxurious flavor.

I love meat and cream sauce, so I really love white ragù pasta. Let me tell you how to enjoy it deliciously: pop! the egg yolk on top of the noodles, then mix it in. You will get an even nuttier, softer flavor.
