Single-serving Korean BBQ in Jongno, Daegu for two: Hubaldae

In short

Hubaldae Daegu Jongno Branch is a Korean BBQ restaurant at 50 Jongno in Jung-gu, Daegu, where the staff grill the meat from start to finish. Two diners ordered one serving each of pork belly, teuk-yang (beef small intestine) and daechang (beef large intestine) to try all three, along with the signature potato wrap: thin potato slices grilled at the edge of the pan and topped with myeong-i namul (wild garlic leaves) and basil. Tables at Hubaldae were nearly full even on a weekday evening, so a reservation is the safer choice at peak hours.

Signature table spread of grilled meat at Hubaldae Daegu Jongno Branch

I was looking for a good spot to eat meat and have a drink on Jongno in Daegu, and ended up at Hubaldae Daegu Jongno Branch! You can eat everything from pork belly to teuk-yang (beef small intestine) and daechang (beef large intestine), and since the staff grill everything for you, it was so comfortable to eat.

What I was especially curious about was that the thin grilled potato is just as much a signature here as the meat — and after trying it, I got why they're served together. This Jongno, Daegu meat restaurant was packed even on a weekday evening, so here's my review :)

What Hubaldae Daegu Jongno Branch looks like inside and out

Hubaldae Daegu Jongno Branch had that great atmosphere for eating meat and having a drink on Jongno. Even though it was a weekday, tables were almost all full — the evening crowd here is definitely lively!

Best of all, you don't have to grill the meat yourself — staff handle it from start to finish. Even tricky cuts like pork belly or daechang get timed perfectly for eating, so all you have to do is eat away! The staff were also super kind.

We ordered pork belly, teuk-yang, and daechang. And the fact that you can order single servings of each meant even just the two of us could try multiple menu items — I loved that.

What side dishes come with the meal

The basic side dishes came out clean and were designed to go well with the meat. There were accompaniments like myeong-i namul (wild garlic leaf) and shredded scallion — and myeong-i namul is already great for wrapping meat on its own, but the combo here, piling meat and myeong-i namul onto grilled potato, was genuinely great.

The side dish lineup wasn't huge, but it felt like exactly the right amount of the things you actually reach for while eating meat!

How the pork belly, teuk-yang and daechang tasted

The pork belly comes out thick-cut, and the staff cut it into bite-sized pieces as they grill it for you. It's grilled to a nice golden brown, crisp outside and juicy inside — starting with pork belly is always the right call.

We also had teuk-yang and daechang together, and ordering them alongside the pork belly instead of just eating one meat the whole time made for a great combo. Daechang especially renders out a lot of fat as it grills, which naturally seeps into the potato — making the potato ridiculously delicious.

Stir-fry of sundae, mushrooms, teuk-yang, and daechang

They also stir-fry sundae (blood sausage) with mushrooms, teuk-yang, and daechang — and honestly, no words needed for that one!

Thin potato slices laid out and grilled at the edge of the grill

What I remembered most here was actually the thinly sliced potato, just as memorable as the meat itself. They lay the potato out around the edge of the grill, and as it grills the meat fat seeps in a little, turning it golden brown — delicious even on its own. But the real point at Hubaldae is piling myeong-i namul and basil leaves on top of that potato to eat like a wrap!

A finished bite of the potato wrap

At first I thought, basil on potato? But the combo turned out to be way better than expected. The nuttiness of the potato, the salty flavor of myeong-i namul, and the aroma of basil together made for a much cleaner bite than eating meat alone.

I genuinely wondered if I should buy a basil plant for home after eating this!

Final verdict and tips before you visit Hubaldae

Hubaldae Daegu Jongno Branch was a great pick for when you want pork belly plus teuk-yang and daechang all in one go on Jongno in Daegu. What I liked most was that staff grill everything for you, making it so easy to eat, and the potato wrap with myeong-i namul and basil felt genuinely fresh and different from other meat restaurants :)

It's busy even on weekdays, so there can be a wait during peak hours — if you have a set date in mind, I'd recommend booking ahead through Naver Reservations. Totally recommend this as a Jongno, Daegu meat restaurant :)
