Weekend lunch set plus free pho at Thai Yami, a Daegu Thai restaurant

Two posts in one day — a rare thing for me these days. The last one was Western food I hadn't had in a while, but this one is Thai food I'd had even longer ago~ I visited with my wife (Jin) for a late weekend lunch, and I noticed a lot of families with kids there too! The menu was varied and unusual, and everything tasted great, so I wanted to share it with you!

Where is Thai Yami, and where do you park in Gyodong?

Thai Yami is located at 222 Gyeongsanggamyeong-gil, Jung-gu, on the first floor of the Hyundai Sun&Vill officetel commercial building, which made it really easy to find! It even had access to the officetel's parking lot, so it was comfortable to visit. Gyodong is full of bars, so it was surprising to find such a good Thai restaurant tucked in there~

Inside Thai Yami there were both table seats and bar seats. It seemed like the kind of place people who enjoy eating at the bar would love?? Since it's not just a place to eat but also a restaurant where you can enjoy various drinks, sitting side by side at the bar with your food seemed like a great option too! I thought I'd try sitting at the bar next time I visit for dinner.

Thai Yami's lunch set vs dinner set — and what we ordered

Thai Yami's menu was really varied, with a lot of dishes based on Thai food I'd never heard of before. Also, the lunch set and dinner set were separate, and the dinner set came with either Jameson or Suntory whisky! A combo of good whisky and delicious Thai food in the evening sounds pretty great, doesn't it?? We ordered the lunch set — kai phrai plus pad thai — along with a fresh-squeezed orange juice! You can even get a whole bowl of pho through the Naver receipt review, so I really recommend everyone join the review event and try the pho too!!!

My wife (Jin), a bit dazed from eating so late in the day... The fresh-squeezed orange juice we'd ordered first arrived, and being freshly squeezed, it had a really fresh taste along with orange's natural sweetness! Definitely different from the orange juice you get at the supermarket!! Cool and delicious. Also, there was a draft beer machine inside the restaurant, so a cold draft beer alongside would've been perfect too... If only my wife (Jin) hadn't been with me, I would've had one... Such a shame...

My first pad thai at Thai Yami, better than pho

Finally, the pad thai arrived!! Apparently my wife (Jin) really loves pad thai. I'd always just had pho and had never tried pad thai before... Pad thai is apparently a delicious dish of rice noodles stir-fried with vegetables and seafood! So how was my life's first pad thai??!! Honestly, way tastier than pho... My taste buds turned out to be pretty unsophisticated. The sweet and tangy sauce with well-stir-fried bean sprouts, noodles, and seafood all together was so, so good. There was a slightly spicy chili inside too, so it wasn't greasy at all and was easy to eat. Guess I get why my wife (Jin) loves it so much...?

What kind of dish is kai phrai?

Next up was kai phrai, another Thai dish I'd never heard of before. Simply put, kai phrai is a chicken salad — a salad topped with deliciously fried chicken and a tasty soy-sauce-based sauce! It came prettily arranged with sprouts, tomatoes, and cheese. I'm not usually a fan of sprouts because of their slightly bitter taste, but eating them together with the well-fried chicken and the great sauce, it tasted really good after all. I don't like salads, but I felt like I could eat this kind every day. My wife (Jin) also really enjoyed it and ate it happily~

Last but not least, the pho we got through the receipt review event! After all, pho is kind of the foundation of Thai — er, Southeast Asian — food, right? Getting it through a review event didn't feel odd at all — the rich broth with the tasty meat and rice noodles was, as expected, delicious haha. By the time we finished the pad thai, kai phrai, and pho, we were seriously stuffed!

Is Thai Yami a good spot for eating out with family?

So that was my review of Thai Yami, a great spot for Thai food! The taste was excellent and good for kids to eat too — I actually saw a lot of families there, and it was a satisfying, filling meal. Plus, being located in Gyodong made it a great option to combine with a weekend outing and a good meal!! If you're looking for a delicious, well-atmosphered Thai restaurant this weekend, I recommend Thai Yami.
