Inside and outside Samstar Charcoal Grill

I visited Samstar Charcoal Grill, a great spot for when you're craving charcoal BBQ in Jeongwang-dong.
Where is Samstar Charcoal Grill, and is there parking?
📍 Samstar Charcoal Grill is located in the central shopping area of Jeongwang-dong's Block 46.

🅿️ You get 2 hours of parking if you use the Sihwa parking lot, and it's pretty spacious, so no worries about parking.

A hall that seats up to 120 people
The seating area was wide enough to hold up to 120 people. It would work well for a family meal or as a group dinner spot in Jeongwang-dong.
Samstar Charcoal Grill menu and prices

Both the samgyeopsal (pork belly) and beef galbi (short rib) at Samstar Charcoal Grill are domestic. We ordered the 25cm giant galbi — two servings — which caught our eye right away. ☑️ Event: visit between 5 and 6pm and enjoy charcoal galbi for ₩13,000.
What we ordered
25cm giant galbi, 3 servings — ₩48,000

The side dishes were varied too — pickled onions, mustard leaf kimchi, aged kimchi, various jeotgal (salted seafood) and sauces, breadcrumbs, and more to enjoy alongside the meat.
The self-serve side dish bar
You can top up any sides you're missing at the self-serve bar. One thing I personally loved was that the plates provided are small!

When food sits out for too long in large portions, it often doesn't stay well-managed — so thanks to this, the self-serve bar was clean and hygienic overall.

After we ordered, they got the charcoal ready first.
Two servings of 25cm giant galbi: the size really is huge
The moment the galbi arrived, I was shocked by how thick and long it was. It looks pretty big even in the photo, right? Haha, in person it's even longer and more generous than you'd expect!

It's ₩16,000 per serving — for this amount and quality, isn't that really great value?!

The galbi had a sweet and salty marinade soaked in well, and grilling it over charcoal added a subtle smoky flavor that made it delicious.

My husband grilled it carefully so it wouldn't burn, and maybe because the marinade was so good, it turned out really moist and tender!

Doenjang soup in a big pot and Korean-grown aged kimchi
The complimentary doenjang (soybean paste) soup was tasty too. It didn't come in a small ttukbaegi (earthenware pot) but in a generous big bowl, which really showed the owner's generosity. It's also great to spoon up while eating meat. Like I always say... I'm someone who can't eat meat without doenjang soup... that's me haha.
This aged kimchi paired so well when the galbi started to feel a little heavy! They use domestic aged kimchi, and it was delicious even eaten on its own.
We had galbi that day, but if you're having samgyeopsal, grilling this aged kimchi alongside it would be amazing. Lately I've often been let down by Chinese-made kimchi at BBQ restaurants, so having domestic aged kimchi here was even more satisfying.
Ordering one more serving of 25cm giant galbi

In the end, it was so good we ordered one more serving of giant galbi haha. Looking at it again, isn't the size really impressive? The name '25cm' isn't there for nothing 😳

The marinade had soaked all the way through, and my husband said this was the best galbi he's ever had while eating it with rave reviews.

Looks like we're going to become regulars?! Day by day.
They also grilled king oyster mushrooms to eat alongside the galbi. Grilled over charcoal, the mushroom's juices came out moist, which made them great to eat in between bites of galbi.
Is Samstar Charcoal Grill worth it for a group dinner in Jeongwang-dong?

Samstar Charcoal Grill was satisfying in terms of portion, price, and taste all around. In particular, the 25cm giant galbi surprised me right from the start with its overwhelming size, and I really enjoyed the sweet, salty marinade along with its moist, tender texture.
It was great being able to grill domestic samgyeopsal and beef galbi over charcoal and enjoy domestic aged kimchi too. If you're looking for a place for a family meal, a get-together with friends, or delicious meat with a shot of soju after work, I highly recommend Samstar Charcoal Grill, a meat restaurant in Jeongwang-dong :)
