I had lunch at Jeongjeong-a Sikdang Jeongwang Branch, a well-known spot in Jeongwang-dong, Siheung 🍚

Hi everyone! As the weather's starting to cool down, I keep craving something warm and filling. So today I'm sharing my visit to Jeongjeong-a Sikdang Jeongwang Branch, a place famous in Siheung's Jeongwang-dong for its dakdoritang (spicy braised chicken stew). I'd been curious about it for a while, and since I had a lunch date with a friend, it was the perfect excuse to finally go. If you're looking for a place to eat in Jeongwang-dong, especially something good to share with company, this might help. Instead of the chicken stew, we went with a set menu of seafood pancake, cockles, and muchae — and honestly, that combo was a genius move. Let's get into the review.
What is Jeongjeong-a Sikdang Jeongwang Branch like inside? Old-school wooden tables

The restaurant was easy to spot thanks to the big sign out front — it even had a large phone number printed on it, probably because they do a lot of delivery too. The moment I walked in, what struck me was how spacious the place was. The tables were spread out generously, and the old-school wooden tables gave it a warm, nostalgic feel.

The staff kindly showed us to our seats, and aprons were already set out at every table so we didn't have to worry about stains while eating. Water, alcohol, and drinks were all self-serve, with a big fridge set up on one side for that. It seemed like a great spot for group parties too — honestly a solid pick for a team dinner in Jeongwang-dong.

Set menu 4 for two: seafood pancake, cockles and muchae for 30,000 won

The menu board at Jeongjeong-a Sikdang Jeongwang Branch had more variety than I expected, so we hesitated a bit before ordering. Dakdoritang is the signature dish, but since there were only two of us, we leaned toward the set menus that let you try a bit of everything. After some thought, we went with Set Menu 4 — seafood pancake, cockles, and muchae — plus an extra bowl of rice. It came out to ₩30,000 for the set and ₩1,000 for the rice, so ₩31,000 total for two, a bit over ₩15,000 each. Every dish had a generous portion, so it was plenty for two — honestly, we had leftovers. Value-wise, it felt really fair. The side dishes, white kimchi and geotjeori (fresh kimchi), came out as soon as we sat down, so the table already felt hearty before the food even arrived.

How did the cockle salad, muchae and seafood pancake taste?

First up was the cockle salad, and the seasoning was a work of art. The cockles were plump, and the sauce hit the perfect sweet-salty balance — total rice thief, the kind of dish that makes rice disappear on its own.

Muchae was perfect for a hot day like this one. The tangy-sweet broth was loaded with acorn jelly, vegetables, and dried seaweed flakes — the jelly had a great texture and I kept spooning up the broth. The seafood pancake surprised me the moment it arrived — it was huge, filling the whole plate, packed generously with squid and other seafood. Crispy outside, moist inside, exactly the texture you want.

Dipped in the soy sauce that came alongside, the flavor got even deeper — I totally understood why the older gentlemen around us were having a glass of makgeolli with it. All three dishes had such distinct character that it made for a really well-rounded meal.

Seating and restrooms: wide tables, restroom in the building hallway

The tables at Jeongjeong-a Sikdang Jeongwang Branch were wide enough to fit the side dishes, main dishes, and individual plates comfortably. There was plenty of room for food photos too. The restroom wasn't inside the restaurant — you had to step out into the building hallway to use it.

No passcode needed, so it was easy and hassle-free. With such roomy seating, this place seems better suited for friends, family, or coworkers eating together rather than solo dining. And despite being spacious, even with a decent crowd the noise level wasn't bothersome.
What to order on a hot day versus a chilly day
If you're visiting on a hot day like we did, I'd definitely recommend ordering the muchae — the cool, tangy broth really cuts through the heat. On the flip side, now that the weather's turning chilly, a bubbling pot of dakdoritang sounds more appealing. Next time, I'm definitely trying their signature chicken stew. Lunchtime tends to get fairly busy, so if you want a more relaxed meal, going a little earlier might be a good idea.
Opening hours, waiting and parking at Jeongjeong-a Sikdang
Jeongjeong-a Sikdang Jeongwang Branch is open from 11 AM to 10 PM, closed on Sundays — worth keeping in mind before you go. When we visited, there was no wait and we were seated right away. Wi-Fi was available too, with the ID and password posted on the wall — handy if you need internet in a pinch.

Since it's tucked into a commercial block near Jeongwang-dong, parking and location can be a bit tricky to find, so I'd recommend searching the map ahead of time.
The verdict: a Jeongwang-dong restaurant that also works for group dinners
This visit to Jeongjeong-a Sikdang Jeongwang Branch was, in a word, a hit. The portions were generous, the flavors were solid, and I'd 100% go back. The spacious hall and comfortable seating make it work well both for a casual lunch with a friend and for a bigger group dinner. Highly recommend if you're looking for a hearty meal in Jeongwang-dong. Next time I visit, I'll be sure to try the signature dakdoritang and report back.
