Magok tent BBQ bar with hanwoo gopchang for two: Hwang Gop
In short
Hwang Gop Magoknaru Branch is a hanwoo (Korean beef) gopchang (beef intestine) grill bar right by Magoknaru Station in Gangseo, Seoul, with a canopied outdoor-style tent area alongside roomy indoor seating. Jungseoche Buddies ordered two servings of the hanwoo gopchang grill, 150g at 24,000 won each, finished the pre-grilled intestines over the fire in minutes, and rounded it out with complimentary yukhoe (raw beef tartare) and mukbap (chilled acorn jelly soup) plus green onion kimchi and mukeunji (aged kimchi) from the self-serve bar. The gopchang was packed with fat yet nutty rather than greasy, and Hwang Gop is a place you should stay at through the closing fried rice.

This time I was craving gopchang (grilled beef intestines), so I headed to Hwang Gop near Magoknaru Station in Seoul.

Just look at the visuals first. Everything is plump and packed with fat, and grilling it together with green onion kimchi and mukeunji makes such a great drinking snack combo, right?

Hwang Gop doesn't just have gopchang — they also have makchang (rectum), daechang (large intestine), heart, pork belly brisket, hanwoo gopchang jeongol (hot pot), hanwoo daechang jeongol (motsunabe-style hot pot), and more, so people of all ages can find something they enjoy. And it's not just about the wide food menu! They also have plenty of drink options like soju, beer, and makgeolli, so there's lots to choose from!
Is Hwang Gop Magoknaru Branch worth it? The verdict first
- The hanwoo gopchang was packed with fat, so it was rich and savory rather than greasy.
- The combination with grilled potato, enoki mushrooms, chives, green onion kimchi, and mukeunji worked really well together.
- We finished with fried rice at the end, which had egg mixed in and was so nutty and savory — it would have been a shame to skip it.

Tent seating and indoor tables at Hwang Gop by Magoknaru Station
Hwang Gop's exterior sits right in the middle of Magoknaru. Even before walking in, I had a feeling it would be delicious haha

Maybe because the weather's suddenly turned cool, this kind of tented, outdoor-drinking-spot vibe felt really nice.
From the indoor seats further inside to the tented, outdoor-style space, there were quite a lot of seats. Since the folding doors were open anyway, we ended up sitting toward the back indoors.

There's plenty of space, so it's great for gatherings with family, friends, or coworkers, right? I think the fact that the interior seating is spacious even in the back is part of why families and couples keep coming — it's comfortable to eat there. And the owners responded quickly and kindly too!
Hanwoo gopchang grill, 150g for 24,000 won: two servings
What Jungseoche Buddies ordered was hanwoo gopchang grill 150g (₩24,000) for two servings. It comes standard with 4 side dishes + 2 sauces + chive salad.

They pre-grill it to some degree before serving, so we could finish cooking it quickly and eat it cleanly.

So it only took a few minutes to grill. Usually when you grill from completely raw at the table, there's some oil splattering and it's a bit of a hassle until it's fully cooked, but there was none of that here, which I liked!
Watching it sizzle and cook makes me want to eat it again just thinking about it haha

Free yukhoe, mukbap and the self-serve side dish bar
Hwang Gop gives you a complimentary taste of yukhoe (raw beef tartare) right from the start! It's a great little appetizer to whet your palate before the gopchang arrives!

This cool, generously portioned mukbap (acorn jelly noodle soup) also comes standard at the start!

If you head to the self-serve bar, you can help yourself to more green onion kimchi, mukeunji, garlic, cheongyang chili, sauces, and more!

The green onion kimchi also cuts through the gopchang's fat, so it makes each bite feel more refreshing!

A lot of people love myeongi namul (wild garlic leaves) too, and here it comes as a standard side dish haha

The pickled onions and pickled peppers also help whet your appetite!

If you're near Magoknaru Station or around Seoul Botanic Garden and want to enjoy a filling meal of hanwoo gopchang in that tented, outdoor-drinking-spot atmosphere, give Hwang Gop, a Magoknaru favorite, a visit!
