What kind of izakaya is Tomo?

Tomo is the only bar near Seoul National University Station that operates exclusively with private rooms. It has everything from 2-person rooms to group rooms that fit 15 or more people. Each room lets you play whatever music you like, and pets are welcome too.
They serve aged sashimi (숙성사시미) prepared with top-level Tsumoto-style aging, along with seasonal dishes made from in-season ingredients. I heard the menu gets refreshed about four times a year, so you can enjoy a variety of flavors throughout the seasons.
Inside Tomo's private rooms

Private rooms lined the hallway one after another. The room we used was spacious enough to fit several people comfortably, and it was completely separated from the outside, so we could chat comfortably without worrying about anyone around us.

The table was also neatly set in advance, so it seemed like a great option not just for a private date but also for gatherings with friends or a group dinner!
Complimentary snacks and the drink order rule

Once we sat down, they served us salty edamame and tangy pickled ginger as basic side dishes! Since ordering alcohol is required at Tomo, we ordered Terra beer and a coke together.
How was the sashimi for two at 48,000 won?

✔️Sashimi ₩48,000 / Sous vide pork belly & aged kimchi combo ₩28,000

The 2-person sashimi we ordered arrived! Various kinds of sashimi were plated together on one dish, and it looked so pretty right from the start. They shaped the shrimp into a heart, and I gasped the moment I saw it haha! With flowers and lemon added too, it was clear they really put thought into the plating ><

The sashimi was sliced thick, so the texture was fantastic. The fish with skin still attached had that chewy texture unique to the skin — light yet springy. The salmon was soft and nutty, and the tuna melted in my mouth, so tender and delicious 🩷 Thanks to the Tsumoto-style aging, it was clean with no fishy taste at all.

What looked like yellowtail had a rich, fatty flavor and a soft texture that was really appealing. The flatfish was light yet chewy, with a nutty flavor coming through! The octopus wasn't tough at all — it was springy and fun to chew haha. Lastly, the gyoku (egg omelet) that came with it was fluffy, soft, and sweet, perfect to eat partway through the meal 🩷

The sweet shrimp, beautifully plated in a heart shape! It was so soft it practically melted, and after the springy texture came a rush of sweetness that was delicious! With how lovely it looked too, it was perfect for a date menu haha ><
Sous vide pork belly and aged kimchi combo, 28,000 won

Thinly sliced sous vide pork belly haha! It was so generously piled on the plate that I fell for it visually right away ><. With aged kimchi (묵은지) and sauce all plated together on one dish, doesn't it look kind of upscale?

Cooked sous vide, the meat was moist and tender. The fat and lean meat blended together nicely, giving it a nutty flavor while keeping a chewy texture alive! Paired with tangy vegetables and a sweet-salty sauce, I could enjoy it cleanly without any greasiness.
Which gatherings suit Tomo best?
Tomo was great because I could chat comfortably in a private, individual room without worrying about prying eyes or noise around us! From the beautifully plated aged sashimi to the moist sous vide dishes, the food quality was great too, making it perfect to enjoy alongside drinks.
If you're looking for a bar near Seoul National University Station that's great for a quiet date or blind date, as well as gatherings with friends or a group dinner, I'd recommend this place. If you don't want to compromise on either atmosphere or food, come visit Tomo, a great restaurant in Sharosu-gil.
