Yeongdeungpo izakaya, grilled mentaiko in laver: Nani Byeolgwan
In short
Nani Byeolgwan Yeongdeungpo Branch is a Japanese-style izakaya on Munnae-ro in Yeongdeungpo, Seoul, divided into three themed spaces: a bar table, an inner table area and a second floor. Stopping in with a friend for a second round, the writer ordered pork belly and scallion skewers (15,000 won), daechang beef intestine skewers (12,000 won) and grilled mentaiko (salted pollock roe, 19,000 won) with Asahi draft beer at 8,000 won a glass, the mentaiko eaten wrapped in laver with cucumber, mayo and garlic flakes. What began as one light drink ended with two bottles of soju gone, making Nani Byeolgwan an izakaya where round two beats round one.

The days are getting soooo long lately ☀️ — even after dinner it's still bright out, and it feels like a waste to just say goodbye. While figuring out where to go for round two with a friend, I found this Yeongdeungpo izakaya, Nani Byeolgwan, perfect for light snacks and a moody atmosphere to keep the conversation going. Here's my review!
What Nani Byeolgwan Yeongdeungpo Branch looks and feels like
Nani Byeolgwan Yeongdeungpo Branch is a Japanese-style izakaya on Munnae-ro in Yeongdeungpo-gu. The vibe hits you before you even step in 🤩 — the Japanese-style interior really stands out!

There's a simple notice and menu board out front, so you can check the menu before going in — nice touch.

Three themed spaces: bar table, inner tables and the second floor
Nani Byeolgwan has three themed spaces. Walk in and you'll find a bar table area with a socializing izakaya concept, plus an inner space. We were seated at the inner tables. Just so you know, there's also a second floor with bigger tables! The interior was so pretty that I got lost in the mood and didn't take as many photos as I wanted, ugh ㅠㅠ

The AC was blasting! The restroom is inside too, and separated by gender. As someone who cares a LOT about restrooms, this place passes!

How QR code ordering works at Nani Byeolgwan
At Nani Byeolgwan Yeongdeungpo Branch, you check the menu via a QR code on the wall and order by pressing the table bell. So what's this QR code on the wall about?

And there's the menu 📙 Paper menus taking up table space used to bug me sometimes, so seeing it on my phone like this was so much more convenient 👍 Just scan the QR code, check the menu, and press the bell on the table to order!
For a light drink, yakitori is a must! So we ordered pork belly and scallion skewers, daechang skewers, grilled mentaiko, and a nice cold Asahi draft!

The complimentary side dish is cabbage drizzled with a savory sauce!

Asahi draft beer, 8,000 won a glass
Just looking at this Asahi draft (₩8,000 a glass) cools you down! Drinking it cools you down even more. So cold, so cold — pure bliss 🍺 Isn't the glass gorgeous?😍

And finally, the food we'd been waiting for!

Pork belly and scallion skewer, 15,000 won — the pick of the night
Pork belly and scallion skewer (₩15,000) — nicely golden-grilled yakitori! It looked so good I was drooling before I even started. One sip of beer, then a bite — I was curious what the combo would taste like, and the crunchy scallion wrapped inside the pork belly worked so well! Yakitori is usually small, one-bite pieces, but here they're plump and generous, which I loved. This was my top pick among tonight's snacks!

Daechang skewer, 12,000 won, dipped in cumin salt
Daechang skewer (₩12,000) — the diet's number one enemy! But I can never resist daechang. A sip of beer, then a bite, and that nutty richness spreads through your mouth 😋 It's already tasty plain, but dipping it in cumin salt pairs even better with beer! Though eating it with beer does make me feel a little guilty about all that fat solidifying inside me ㅠㅠㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ

Grilled mentaiko, 19,000 won, wrapped in laver with cucumber and mayo
Grilled mentaiko (salted pollock roe, ₩19,000) — an essential snack for a light drink! I personally love mentaiko, so it's my favorite side dish, and it came out generously with 4 whole pieces!

Put the mentaiko, cucumber, mayo and garlic flakes on a piece of laver and take a bite — mmm, delicious~ That salty flavor keeps calling for more beer 🍺 Those garlic flakes are the real kicker!
We clearly came for a light drink, but somehow...

I caught myself ordering soju ㅎㅋㅋㅋㅋ One bite of a snack, one shot... one bite, one shot... before we knew it, we'd emptied two bottles ㅋㅋㅋㅋ Which is why we ended up drinking even more than round one, apparently.
Is Nani Byeolgwan a good Yeongdeungpo round-two spot, solo or in a group?
A place where you get tipsy on both the food and the atmosphere! You can drink solo at the bar table, and since there's a second floor too, it's great for groups as well! If you want to spend a happy time chatting with good company in a beautiful space, I recommend this Yeongdeungpo izakaya, Nani Byeolgwan!
