I first came across Halmae Gireumjip in Sindorim ages ago and remember eating so well that I tucked it away in my heart as a lovely memory! Today, I visited Halmae Gireumjip Yeongdeungpo-gu Office Branch with that memory in mind.

The owner and staff gave us such a kind welcome the moment we walked in—major praise 💕 The interior was not huge, but there were more tables than I expected and it was comfortable.

I had already been planning to order jeon (Korean savory pancakes), but seeing the sign that said, “We’re confident about our jeon!” made me even more certain that jeon was the move today, haha.

Halmae Gireumjip Yeongdeungpo-gu Office Branch has a wide range of signature jeon, from jeon-and-makgeolli sets to bacon potato jeon and gimbap jeon. There are also plenty of side dishes to go with drinks, including whole squid jjambbong soup, chicken feet, and rolled omelet!

There’s a Kooksoondang makgeolli buy-one-get-one-free event going on. Anyone drinking makgeolli, make some noise~~! They also have ube and matcha makgeolli, so even people who find makgeolli’s distinctive flavor a little intimidating can enjoy it. There are refined premium makgeolli options too—perfect for setting the mood!

This minari shrimp jeon combines fragrant minari (water celery) with springy shrimp for a crisp, clean-tasting pancake.

Crispy outside, tender inside—the outer edge of the minari shrimp jeon was so incredibly crunchy that it made an actual crunching sound! And they were seriously, seriously generous with the shrimp; there was enough to cover the whole pancake. The shrimp were huge and plump too, and the texture was insane. Honestly, this is cheating...ㅠ

With fragrant minari and chubby shrimp, this jeon goes wonderfully with makgeolli and works just as nicely with soju!

Once the richness started creeping in after eating only jeon, I ordered kimchi rolled noodles to freshen up my palate.

It was packed with half-frozen ice, so it was unbelievably refreshing.

The tangy, sour kimchi flavor cut straight through the richness, and it was so good. It would be great for anyone who arrived without having a meal, and because it pairs so well with jeon, I recommend it as something to have alongside a drink :)
