Why the sundae gukbap set won lunch near Jamsil Station

I had the sundae gukbap (blood sausage soup) set at Boseung Hoegwan Bangi Branch for lunch near Jamsil Station. I picked it because I wanted something a bit more filling than just a bowl of gukbap for lunch, and the moment the table filled up with sundae gukbap plus pork jowl and sundae, I knew I was in for a real meal!!!

You know those days when, no matter how much you think about lunch, you end up craving something hot and hearty? This was exactly that kind of day ^^

What we ordered and what it cost

  • Sundae gukbap set for two ₩32,000
  • Seasoned mandu ₩4,000

I was glad I ordered the sundae gukbap set, because of the pork jowl and sundae that came with it ^^

A spoonful of hot sundae gukbap broth followed by a piece of pork jowl was such a good combo haha. The glass-noodle sundae and the vegetable-stuffed sundae also came along, so there was the fun of tasting a little of everything!

Pork jowl that stayed warm to the last bite

The pork jowl and sundae sat on a plate with a flame lit underneath, so they stayed warm until we finished the meal — a small touch that I really liked ~ The pork jowl was moist and tender, with a chewy bite that got better the more you chewed it!

The side dishes came out clean and simple too: napa cabbage kimchi, cubed radish kimchi, two sauces, and chives ^^

Watching the sundae gukbap bubble away in its hot stone bowl made me hungry all over again lol. The seasoned mandu we ordered was tasty too!

How was the sundae gukbap broth?

Tasting the broth first, Boseung Hoegwan Bangi Branch's sundae gukbap was rich but clean, with no gamey smell, and loading it up with chives brought out even more flavor ^^ There was plenty of meat and sundae too, so just mixing in rice with it alone would've been filling ~

When to order the set instead of a single bowl of sundae gukbap

The sundae gukbap set felt so much more filling than eating sundae gukbap alone ^^ Warming up on the soup and alternating with pork jowl and sundae, I never got tired of it right to the end ~ The kimchi and cubed radish kimchi were great to pair with the soup along the way too, especially the crunchy radish kimchi against the rich broth!

I think I'll come back to this on a day when I want to eat more than just an ordinary bowl of sundae gukbap ~
