Boseung Hoegwan Bangi Branch is a 24-hour sundae gukbap solo-dining favorite in Bangi-dong near Jamsil. I've been a regular in this Songpa neighborhood spot many times over, and this visit I finally tried the new pancake menu alongside the soup.

It was a chilly evening when hot soup felt especially necessary, so we headed out together for a date. After debating where to grab a light but filling meal, I landed on the familiar neighborhood spot that always comes to mind.

No matter when I go, that distinctive deep broth smell drifts gently from the alley entrance, and it always makes me so happy to catch it! I've visited enough times that it feels second nature, so today I walked in without hesitation too.

The moment the door opened, that bold, rich gukbap aroma welcomed us in — I already wanted to pick up my spoon!

Adding the new pancakes to the spicy broth I already love made for a dinner even more satisfying than expected.

Partitioned booths at Boseung Hoegwan: easy for solo diners

A cozy, comfortable 24-hour gukbap space divided by partitions
Round lighting fixtures throughout the dining room kept things from feeling dark, giving off a calm warmth instead. Every table has proper partition-style booth seating, so solo diners in Bangi-dong can eat comfortably without feeling watched. It's the kind of layout that's easy to settle into whether you drop by late at night or early in the morning!
How do the spicy sundae gukbap and the new pancakes taste?

A rich, spicy sundae gukbap and crisp-outside, tender-inside mixed pancakes
The spicy sundae gukbap arrived still bubbling, and it had an even sharper kick than before — my whole body relaxed from the first spoonful. The spicy broth was generously loaded with plump sundae (blood sausage) and pork head meat, and the more I chewed, the more savory depth came through.

The pale, mild sundae gukbap had no gamey funk and was hearty without being overwhelming, so it's easy to enjoy even if you can't handle spicy food.

On top of that, the newly launched mung bean pancake and buckwheat scallion pancake came out golden and almost fried, with a crisp outer texture that was outstanding.

The scallion pancake with its bits of seafood is appealing on its own, but the mung bean pancake had a particular richness — the nutty flavor of the beans spreading heavily through every bite made it especially deep.

The napa cabbage kimchi and diced radish kimchi on the table were unusually crisp and refreshing too, cutting nicely through the greasy pancakes and the spicy soup.

Dunking a bowl of rice into the spicy broth for a big spoonful topped with a piece of kimchi washed away a whole day's fatigue.
Chive and perilla ssamjang sauce: the best way to eat sundae gukbap

Piling on fresh chives and the magic perilla dipping sauce
The moment the plain sundae gukbap arrives, the key tip is to pile a generous mound of raw chives in before they wilt.

As the fragrant chives mix with the piping-hot broth in the stone pot, the soup's flavor turns even cleaner and fuller!

When you're fishing out the meat and sundae, try mixing perilla powder, ssamjang (thick soybean-chili paste), and salted shrimp together in a small dish to make a special sauce.

The nutty perilla aroma and the salty seasoning come together, bringing out an extra savory kick when you dip the rich meat into it.

Adding a bit of the cheongyang chili from the pickled onions served alongside onto the greasy pancakes helps keep every bite tasting fresh to the very end.
Dinner date to a light drink at Boseung Hoegwan Bangi Branch

The go-to spot in Bangi-dong's restaurant alley for a hearty gukbap and a drink
After finishing a whole stone pot on a chilly night, my stomach felt wonderfully warm and full. With that familiar rich broth flavor plus crisp pancakes on the side, it would work just as well for a light drinking session as it does for a meal!

Since it runs 24 hours, it's always a reliable option near Jamsil Station for a late-night hangover cure or a morning meal. Whenever I crave that hot, spicy broth again, I'll be back without a second thought.
