Walk-in dinner for three at Hey Joji, a Yeonnam-dong pasta restaurant

I've been busy these days getting ready for my wedding, but I still have to see my friends' faces haha. On the day we three got together again after a while — for my classmate's wedding, no less —

I was looking for a pasta place for dinner in Yeonnam-dong and found somewhere I want to introduce to you. Today I want to talk about Hey Joji in Yeonnam-dong, and here's the bride-to-be's summary:

Even on a Saturday at 7pm, we got seated with no wait, and it's got just the right mix of casual and atmospheric where you can eat both steak and pasta. I was especially satisfied with just the house steak alone — Hey Joji, a real Yeonnam-dong find!! With its vibe like stepping straight into an American home from a movie, paired with actual American comfort food, it feels uniquely suited as a date spot haha.

Was there a wait at Hey Joji at 7pm on a Saturday?

Hey Joji is quite popular even for Yeonnam-dong, so there's often a wait. But I was lucky — Saturday at 7pm, and no wait at all! 🙌

I visited on a Saturday at 7pm with two friends, three of us total, and we got seated immediately with no wait. The photo on the left is from that day.

How to find Hey Joji from Hongik Univ. Station

It's about a 10-minute walk, roughly 500m, from Exit 3 of Hongik Univ. Station. You'll get there quickly once you're walking — it's that alley in Yeonnam-dong everyone knows. It's tucked inside the alley, so I'd recommend coming by public transit.

Walking along the alley, the exterior really stands out, so I found it without getting lost. Being an American comfort food restaurant, it has that exotic feel even from outside ✨

There's also a cute photo zone next to the restaurant, and if there's a wait, you can sit on the chairs out front instead of standing around — a nice touch.

Inside Hey Joji: interior and seating for groups

The moment I opened the door, it felt like stepping into a cozy American home. Instead of cramming in small 2-seat tables, they used big 4-seat tables that flex for 2 to 4 people — that stood out to me.

What impressed me too was how generous the spacing between tables was for the size of the place. We could chat without worrying about the next table.

The kitschy movie-set props filling Hey Joji

A typewriter, canned goods, vinyl records, even a Statue of Liberty made of Lego! Old yet kitschy props were scattered everywhere, and it was fun spotting them all.

How the two pastas at Hey Joji tasted

Starting with the garlic squid oil pasta —

It was light without the usual greasiness of oil pasta, and the squid was generously portioned, not skimped on at all. Something about the lemon and squid combo was subtly addictive, and I kept going back for more.

The bocconcini tomato pasta caught the eye first with its cheese visual. My friends have genuinely picky, kid-like tastes, and they loved this pasta, saying it tasted exactly as delicious as expected! I preferred the garlic oil one, while my friends were evenly into the tomato one hahaha.

The sauce was plentiful too, which was satisfying. And then........

Hey Joji house steak, 31,000 won

And now, today's main star — the house steak! It came with a cute-faced potato that made us all laugh, and the sweet potato fries pairing was unique. Sweet potato fries instead of regular fries!!!!!

The steak was cooked so juicy and tender that I took another close-up shot. At ₩31,000, considering the portion and quality, it didn't feel like a waste at all.

It was genuinely, really delicious. Of everything on the Hey Joji menu, you absolutely have to try the steak!!!

Is Hey Joji worth it for a friends' dinner in Yeonnam-dong?

I'd recommend this to:

Overall, this was a Yeonnam-dong pasta spot I could enjoy without worrying about waiting. Next time, I want to try the risotto at Hey Joji too!!
