Hongdae date café with raspberry cream chimney bread: Chimney Mansion

In short

Chimney Mansion is a bakery café between Hongdae and Hapjeong in Seoul, set in a two-story brick mansion across from a church in Seogyo-dong and built around traditional Czech chimney bread. On a date, the writer tried two chimney bread ice creams, Green Garden Horse (matcha) and Lucky Chimney Pistachio, plus a raspberry vanilla cream chimney bread, and remembered the fresh pistachios, generous cream and vintage European-style rooms. For a different kind of dessert café to rest at while out in Hongdae, Chimney Mansion is a great fit.

Did you all know there's a quirky chimney bread bakery café in Hongdae? Chimney Mansion (침니맨션) specializes in traditional Czech chimney bread, and it's a top-notch spot: a European-feeling space full of charm, plus an unusual dessert, so you get a whole date course in one place! I went while searching for a Seoul Hongdae café, something to do, and a date spot, so don't wander around like I almost did, just go to Chimney Mansion! The space was far prettier than I expected, and it really stuck with me.

What kind of café is Chimney Mansion in Hongdae?

Chimney Mansion is a bakery café where you can try traditional Czech chimney bread in Hongdae. Its concept is the story of a family of chimney sweeps, and the whole space is decorated like a small mansion. It felt different from an ordinary Hongdae bakery right from the atmosphere.

At first I only looked it up because I was curious about chimney bread. Isn't it amazing that you can eat the chimney bread you had in the Czech Republic in Hongdae too? But when I looked into it, Chimney Mansion didn't feel like a simple Hongdae bakery. Besides the concept built on the chimney sweeps' family story, the whole place is styled like one small mansion. Maybe that's why the atmosphere felt so different.

Where is Chimney Mansion? Hours and parking

Chimney Mansion is a two-story brick mansion at 14 Jandari-ro 6-gil, Mapo-gu, Seoul, on the way from Hongdae to Hapjeong. It's open Mon–Fri 11:00–20:00 and Sat–Sun 10:00–21:00, and it has no parking lot of its own.

From Exit 3 of Hapjeong Station, turn into the Burger King alley and you'll find it across from the church in Seogyo-dong. It's such a romantic, vintage two-story brick mansion. The exterior already has a vintage mood, so it caught my eye even from far away. These days, when you're looking for a Seoul Hongdae café, something to do, and a date, the route matters too, right? Chimney Mansion was a nice stop on the way from playing in Hongdae over toward Hapjeong. There's no parking lot, so public transport is easier, and if you drive, I hear the nearby Samyun public parking lot is recommended!

What is the atmosphere like inside Chimney Mansion?

Inside, Chimney Mansion is spacious with high ceilings, like a vintage European mansion. From the chimney-bread-making props behind the counter to the second floor, there are lots of photo spots.

The moment I opened the door, the atmosphere was just so good. The interior is wide with a high ceiling, and the vibe really is a vintage European mansion. Every prop is vintage and tasteful. Behind the counter there are even props for making chimney bread. The second floor is also decorated beautifully and is fun to look around. With so many photo spots, it's great with a friend, and with a partner it gives you plenty to talk about.

Isn't this exactly what people searching for a quirky Hongdae café and chimney bread bakery want? A big space, pretty interior, and a special dessert too. The seats were more comfortable than I expected as well.

What we ordered at Chimney Mansion

At Chimney Mansion we ordered the chimney ice creams Green Garden Horse and Lucky Chimney Pistachio, plus a raspberry vanilla cream chimney bread. There are lots of toppings like cinnamon, chocolate and cream cheese, and drinks come with decaf and oat milk options.

What caught my eye most at Chimney Mansion was, of course, the chimney bread. Every kind on display was so cute that just browsing before choosing was fun. With tasty toppings like cinnamon, chocolate and cream cheese, I got totally indecisive. Decaf and oat milk options meant the drink choices were pretty thoughtful too.

They also have chimney ice cream, so we picked Green Garden Horse and Lucky Chimney Pistachio. And we ordered the raspberry vanilla cream chimney bread too. The moment they came out they looked so cute that I couldn't not take photos. It felt like the effort of searching for a quirky Hongdae café chimney bread bakery paid off right away!

How do the pistachio and matcha chimney bread ice creams taste?

Lucky Chimney Pistachio is pistachio flavor and Green Garden Horse is matcha pistachio, and both are packed with fresh pistachios, so the nutty richness was strong. The chimney bread itself was chewy yet soft, with a nutty butter aroma.

The chimney bread looks like a salt bread (a buttery roll), but with a hole through it like a chimney, and the texture was chewy and soft. The more I chewed, the more a nutty butter aroma rose up, and it put me in a good mood. Lucky Chimney Pistachio is pistachio flavor and Green Garden Horse is matcha pistachio. Both are not just pistachio scent but loaded with fresh pistachios, so the richness was deep and strong. The ice cream even goes inside the chimney bread, so there was no disappointment right to the end.

The matcha flavor is delicious too. The bitterness of the matcha balanced the sweetness of the chimney bread, so it never got cloying. Even the cookie decoration was cute, so it was perfect for photos as a Seoul Hongdae café, something to do, and date course!

What does the raspberry vanilla cream chimney bread taste like?

Chimney Mansion's raspberry vanilla cream chimney bread leans tangy and sweet. The vanilla cream is generous, and the tartness of the raspberry made it lighter than I expected.

There's plenty of vanilla cream, and the tartness of the raspberry made it fresher than I expected. Overall it felt like the owner doesn't skimp on ingredients. As a quirky Hongdae café chimney bread bakery, both the look and taste of the menu are satisfying. Personally, what I liked was that it isn't a too-common dessert. Cakes and cookies are nice, but sometimes a different kind of dessert is more memorable, right?

Is Chimney Mansion a good Hongdae date café? Any downsides?

Thanks to the pretty space and the uncommon chimney bread, Chimney Mansion was great as a Hongdae date course. The downside is that it's crowded at popular times and popular breads can sell out.

Overall, Chimney Mansion suits people looking for a quirky Hongdae café and chimney bread bakery. The space is pretty, the desserts are cute, and the chimney bread is uncommon, so it worked well as a date course. It's especially good when you're looking for something to do in Hongdae and need a café to rest for a bit.

If I had to pick a downside, it's that it can be crowded at popular times. Of course, popular breads also sell out. If you want to take photos at leisure or meet a wider variety of breads, it's best to avoid the busiest hours, right? Still, with a first and second floor, I could stay more comfortably than expected.

Next time I want to try other topping chimney breads and drink combinations. If you're still deciding on a Seoul Hongdae café, something to do, or a date course, why not enjoy chimney bread desserts at Chimney Mansion?
