It was one of those days when cooking felt like too much effort, meat felt too heavy, but I still wanted something clean and Korean. While wondering where to go, my husband found a Jeungpyeong spot called Son Dubu Gamnamujip, so we headed there.

From the handmade tofu to the hearty hot pot and how the meal went with the kids — here's the full rundown.
Where is Jeungpyeong Son Dubu Gamnamujip, and what are its hours?

A hanok with a persimmon tree: courtyard and private room seating
Gamnamujip sits on Gwangjang-ro in Jeungpyeong-eup, and walking into the courtyard you're greeted by a big persimmon tree and a hanok (traditional Korean house) building. With the gravel yard and the rows of clay jars, it felt calmer and more charming than an ordinary restaurant.

There's parking right in front, though it's not very spacious. During busy hours, you can also use the area around the Jeungpyeong Gymnasium across the street. The interior was bright and tidy, and the tables were spaced comfortably so the meal never felt cramped.

There are also room-style divided seats, which looked great for bringing parents along or for lunch gatherings and family get-togethers.
Tofu made fresh daily and water steeped with black soybeans
The signature dish, Gamnamu tofu hot pot, was ₩17,000 per person at the time of our visit. Since it's only available starting from two servings, it's better suited for a family or group than for a solo diner.

They make tofu fresh every day using domestic soybeans, so I was already excited before the main dish even arrived. The warm soft tofu that came out first was soft and cloud-like. Adding a little soy sauce made it savory and appetizing.

Even the water wasn't just plain water — it was water steeped with roasted black beans. Nutty with a subtle sweetness, it almost tasted like chocolate. I rarely think 'this restaurant's water is delicious,' but here I actually said out loud that this place is a water spot haha.

The side dishes — kimchi, diced radish kimchi, salad — were served neatly and paired well with the hot pot.

How generous is the handmade tofu hot pot, plus the kids' egg roll on the house?
The moment the hot pot arrived, I was surprised by how much bigger the portion was than expected. It wasn't just tofu — there was plenty of meat and vegetables too. As it bubbled away, the flavors melded into the broth, and eating it with the soft tofu felt truly filling.

On a day when an all-meat meal would have felt heavy, eating the tofu and vegetables together kept things light. It wasn't just a big portion — the broth was clean yet deep in flavor, so I kept scooping it over rice. Do I even need to say how good it was, haha.

The owner was genuinely fond of the kids. On this visit, she gave us a complimentary egg roll for the children. It's not a standard menu item — she made it specially just for the kids.

She even took photos of the kids herself and stayed warm and welcoming throughout, so her kindness stuck with me just as much as the food.

There was even dental floss set out on the table — a thoughtful touch for after the meal.
Is Jeungpyeong Son Dubu Gamnamujip worth a family visit?
Having tried it myself, Gamnamujip stood out for its generous tofu hot pot portions and the overall tidiness of the side dishes and restaurant atmosphere. It's a great fit if you're looking for a Korean restaurant in Jeungpyeong to bring your parents to, or a comfortable family dining spot to visit with kids.

That said, since the tofu hot pot requires a minimum of two servings, solo diners should go for an à la carte item instead. Their other tofu dishes look promising too, so I think I'll be back soon with my family. If you're craving a hearty meal without the heaviness of meat, this is worth saving as a recommended restaurant in Jeungpyeong.
