Weekend family dinner at Gwangmyeong jjukkumi restaurant Jeongipum

In short

Jeongipum Jjukkumi Gwangmyeong 1st Branch is a hot-plate jjukkumi (baby octopus) restaurant on the 1st floor of AK Plaza in Iljik-dong by Gwangmyeong Station, Gyeonggi, an easy stop after shopping at IKEA or Costco. On a weekend evening with her parents, the writer had the black pork belly hot plate jjukkumi at medium spice (about Shin Ramyun level), wrapped it in sesame leaves with gim, bean sprouts, pickled radish, flying fish roe and white sauce, then cleared two servings of fried rice — minari with flying fish roe and cheese. Her parents called it the best jjukkumi they had ever eaten out, making Jeongipum Jjukkumi a 100% return visit.

If you're looking for somewhere to eat after IKEA shopping near Gwangmyeong Station, I want to recommend Jeongipum Jjukkumi, a local favorite among Gwangmyeong Station residents! This time I visited with my parents, and the octopus (jjukkumi) was so fresh and the sauce was delicious. I especially loved combining all the side dishes into one wrap! My parents said it was the best jjukkumi they'd ever had outside home — 100% return visit intention, a true Gwangmyeong Station favorite.

Where is Jeongipum Jjukkumi, and is there parking?

Entrance of Jeongipum Jjukkumi on the 1st floor of AK Plaza in Gwangmyeong

Jeongipum Jjukkumi is located on the 1st floor of the AK Plaza building in Iljik-dong, near Gwangmyeong Station. It's close to Gwangmyeong IKEA, so it's great for a meal after shopping. Especially for a family outing, easy parking matters, and the lot here is quite spacious with 2 hours of free parking — very convenient!

What makes the jjukkumi different: shell-caught octopus and seasonal minari

Introduction of whelk-farmed jjukkumi and seasonal minari

Jeongipum Jjukkumi is a chain, but I heard the Gwangmyeong 1st Branch learned its technique directly from the uncle who runs the 20-year-old original location. They use high-quality whelk-shell-farmed jjukkumi, considered among the best octopus available domestically, and source seasonal minari (water celery) directly from farms!

Table pre-set for a reserved guest

If you're planning to eat out, I recommend Naver Reservation. You can book until 6:30pm, and since I reserved ahead, everything was already set up when I arrived.

Jeongipum Jjukkumi menu and prices

Menu board listing hot plate jjukkumi at ₩15,000

The base dish at this Gwangmyeong Station favorite is the hot plate jjukkumi for ₩15,000. The main event is loading it up with meat add-ons — black pork belly (kkotsamgyeop) or Black Angus beef belly. We ordered the best-seller loaded with minari, jjukkumi, and meat — if it's your first visit, I recommend this one!!

There's also a lunch special — if this place were near my office, I'd probably come often, haha. Reviews praise the garlic corn cheese!!

Side dishes pre-set on the table
Side dishes including flying fish roe and white sauce

When you visit with a reservation, the side dishes are pre-set: cabbage salad, sesame leaves, pickled radish, bean sprouts, flying fish roe, white sauce, and cold seaweed soup. Since jjukkumi comes seasoned, the sides are chosen to go well with it.

Table kiosk for calling staff

Both the owners and staff are young, and the restaurant is kept spotlessly clean. There's also a table kiosk that's handy for requesting things during busy hours! Staff refilled empty side dishes quickly, and the overall service was fast and friendly.

The jjukkumi sauce comes in 3 spice levels: mild / medium (Shin Ramyun level) / hot. I debated going mild for the sake of my partner, who can't handle spicy food, but ended up ordering medium — and yeah, haha, this is the level you need for it to really taste good. It's actually not that spicy, so even spice-wimps can handle it fine!

Once the pork belly, jjukkumi, and minari simmering on the hot plate wilt down, a staff member comes to stir-fry it for you! Something to check for when dining out with family — you get to just focus on eating, which is why a lot of parents bring their kids here. This jjukkumi spot even has baby chairs ready.

How to eat the jjukkumi: sesame leaf wrap, step by step

Screen showing the recommended order for eating jjukkumi

They show you the best way to eat it — kiosk screen on, follow the order, haha. Make sure jjukkumi goes on last!! If you put it on first, your hands get burned, hahaha.

On the rough side of a sesame leaf: seaweed > bean sprouts > pickled radish > jjukkumi > flying fish roe > white sauce, all wrapped together — wow, it's seriously delicious, hahaha.

Jjukkumi wrap topped with white sauce and flying fish roe

The white sauce is especially the kicker!! Adding the smooth sauce to the spicy jjukkumi seasoning mellows out the heat while making the flavor richer! It's not regular mayonnaise, so it's not greasy either. The flying fish roe pops here and there — eating jjukkumi as a wrap made it even tastier!

Hot plate jjukkumi with minari and rice cake

The most important thing is fresh ingredients and sauce — it's a different flavor from what you'd make at home, with just the right savory depth, and the sauce really soaks into the jjukkumi and pork belly. Especially with plenty of minari added, its aroma paired wonderfully with the chewy jjukkumi!!

The rice cake add-on was also a surprisingly nice touch, haha. There were quite a few cartilage bits in the black pork, so if you're eating with kids, I'd recommend cutting it up first.

And the biggest service win — free steamed egg custard?? Given how much eating out costs these days, that was honestly touching. At most barbecue places, egg custard usually costs ₩3,000, but here they give a giant steamed egg custard free at every table!!

Hot plate fried rice: minari with flying fish roe, and cheese

Fried rice being stir-fried on the hot plate

The jjukkumi sauce itself is so tasty that you can't not get fried rice, haha. And if you join the review event, you get one fried rice free per person — definitely take part! But honestly, it's genuinely delicious, so writing the review is a pleasure, haha.

Cheese fried rice with a stretchy cheese pull

We ordered one portion of minari flying fish roe fried rice and one portion of cheese fried rice — two total. Definitely add the cheese, haha — that stretchy cheese pull is the kicker.

And a tip from the staff! It's even better wrapped in seaweed, haha. I thought there's no way we'd finish all this fried rice, but we scraped up every last crispy bit stuck to the pan.

Table at Jeongipum Jjukkumi after finishing the meal

Jeongipum Jjukkumi, located in Gwangmyeong's AK Plaza, served generous portions with above-average flavor, making me want to come back again. A jjukkumi restaurant with a unique wrap-and-eat style — I recommend it for tonight's dinner out :)
