In short

Jeungpyeong Son Dubu Gamnamujip is a tofu specialty restaurant on Gwangjang-ro in Jeungpyeong-eup, Chungbuk. An order of handmade tofu green onion duruchigi for two plus buckwheat jeonbyeong came with a free noodle choice of kalguksu, somyeon or sujebi (somyeon here), while the self-bar kept refilling cho-dubu (fresh soft tofu), perilla tofu soup, tteokbokki and fritters. Today I'm writing an honest review of Jeungpyeong Son Dubu Gamnamujip (증평손두부감나무집), which is quickly becoming known as a tofu restaurant to visit in Jeungpyeong, Chungbuk. This is the kind of place your parents would genuinely love — the side dishes come out generously and the food is delicious, so I really want to recommend it.

Location, parking, and seating at Jeungpyeong Son Dubu Gamnamujip

Jeungpyeong Son Dubu Gamnamujip is at 141 Gwangjang-ro, Jeungpyeong-eup, Jeungpyeong-gun, Chungcheongbuk-do, and there's a small parking lot right in front. The building used to be a house, so it's not huge, but the atmosphere was really nice.

It was packed with customers so I didn't get many detailed shots of the interior, but each room had its own tables, which made for a nice private dining feel. There aren't that many tables and it gets pretty busy, so if you want to visit as a group of 4 or more, you should definitely make a reservation ahead of time.

There was also a review event and a toss-the-arrow (tuho) event running — the toss-the-arrow event got you a tofu snack, and the review event let you choose between a tofu snack, handmade tofu, or a soybean latte.

Menu and ordering — handmade tofu green onion duruchigi for two

The menu at Jeungpyeong Son Dubu Gamnamujip was more varied than I expected, and they even have reservation-only course meals, which would be great for a special occasion. The lineup is the kind adults would really appreciate — perfect menu choices if you're bringing your parents along.

I ordered the handmade tofu green onion duruchigi for two, plus an extra order of buckwheat jeonbyeong (savory buckwheat crepe rolls). The side dishes here are seriously generous, and I loved that you could go back for more of every single one at the self-bar.

What was at the side-dish self-bar

On top of the basic cho-dubu (soft tofu), you could also help yourself to tteokbokki and what I think was a perilla-seed silken tofu soup, plus fried food — I liked that a lot. When I went it was something like tofu-vegetable fritters, but from other reviews it seems the side dishes might change a bit from visit to visit.

The soft cho-dubu that comes as a default, eaten with soy sauce, was low-key such a treat. Honestly I wasn't expecting much, but it was so smooth and warm that it was genuinely delicious.

I really loved the whole side-dish lineup too.

The perilla tofu soup — I'm not totally sure of the name — was incredibly nutty and smooth, seriously amazing. The second I tasted it I thought, if their perilla sujebi noodles taste anything like this, it would knock me out.

The kimchi also seemed homemade, and whether the cook is just naturally skilled or what, every single side dish was delicious.

The tteokbokki was spicy — totally my type!!!

Rice seems to come as standard when you order a meal menu. It was healthy turmeric rice.

The buckwheat jeonbyeong I added

The buckwheat jeonbyeong I ordered extra came out freshly fried, so it was hot and crispy — great to eat.

Handmade tofu green onion duruchigi and the free somyeon noodle add-in

Now let me show you the main dish — the handmade tofu green onion duruchigi. With the menu I ordered, I got to choose a free noodle add-in from kalguksu, somyeon, or sujebi, and I went with somyeon since it's light and soft. Honestly, since it was free, I figured it would just be a token amount — but the portion of somyeon was actually huge?!!! I was worried I wouldn't be able to finish it all haha.

The green onion tofu duruchigi had green onion, ground meat, handmade tofu, and something like whelk (sora) in it. If you run out of tofu while eating, they said they'll give you more. Such a generous place, seriously 💛

The broth was slightly spicy, which went perfectly with rice, and the tofu was incredibly nutty and delicious. I don't usually even like tofu that much, but it was so good here that I ended up scraping the pot clean, haha.

Mixing the broth and tofu into your rice is also delicious! If you're into drinking, this could also work great as an anju (drinking snack). It's the kind of dish that feels just right for dinner.

Partway through I added the somyeon in, and once the noodles soaked up the seasoning, it was even more delicious~?

Between the side dishes, the tofu, and the noodles, I got so full that I had rice left over, haha. There's just so much to eat even without touching the rice.

Partway through I noticed there was also something like whelk mixed in. I really liked how generously all kinds of ingredients were packed in. They said they'd give more tofu if I ran out, but I was too full to add any more.

Dessert and final thoughts

On the way out of Jeungpyeong Son Dubu Gamnamujip, you could grab ice cream for dessert and also take home some free soybean pulp (kongbiji). I of course made sure to finish off the ice cream too.

If you love tofu, this is a must-visit restaurant. The portions are seriously generous and even dessert is on point, so I'm planning to go back again soon haha. It's also a great place to bring your parents, so if you're looking for a lunch or dinner spot in Jeungpyeong, give Jeungpyeong Son Dubu Gamnamujip a try 💛💛
