Jeungpyeong soft tofu hot pot with dumplings: Son Dubu Gamnamujip
In short
Jeungpyeong Son Dubu Gamnamujip is a handmade-tofu restaurant in a renovated hanok on Gwangjang-ro in downtown Jeungpyeong, Chungbuk. On a Jeungpyeong Tour Pass trip the writer ordered the gamnamu soft tofu hot pot for two plus a chive pancake: the clear broth came packed with gulim mandu (rolled dumplings) and mushrooms with a spicy kick, and the handmade tofu was refillable. Jeungpyeong Son Dubu Gamnamujip is an easy stop on the Belle Foret and Jwagusan route.

Hi, it's Nyamnyami~ This weekend I applied for the Jeungpyeong Tour Pass that's been so hot lately and came to hang out in Jeungpyeong! Playing around is nice, but eating well matters too~ #savingthegoodrestaurants
I heard there was a place that makes its own tofu right in the restaurant and serves it in a hot pot, so I got curious and went to check it out! A hot pot with handmade tofu — I wondered how it would taste~ Here's my honest review.

Where is Jeungpyeong Son Dubu Gamnamujip, and is there parking?
Jeungpyeong Son Dubu Gamnamujip is located in downtown Jeungpyeong, which made it easy to visit~ Since it's right in the center of Jeungpyeong on my travel route, it was convenient to stop by after visiting Belle Foret and Jwagusan, and there were lots of Jeungpyeong Tour Pass partner stores nearby too~ I passed through downtown Jeungpyeong a whopping three times during my 1-night-2-day trip, so it was a great location to stop by while traveling.

Oh, the restaurant's name is literally 'Persimmon Tree House'~ And sure enough, there's a stylish persimmon tree right at the entrance haha 🫣

Here's the exterior of Jeungpyeong Son Dubu Gamnamujip — it's an old-style hanok (traditional Korean house). #Parking available for 3–4 cars

Inside the renovated hanok and the tofu-making room
Stepping into the front yard of the hanok restaurant, you immediately see the tofu-making area. I didn't actually get to watch them make it, but the inside was neat and tidy, and I liked the sign saying today's handmade tofu is 100% domestic soybeans.
Jeungpyeong Son Dubu Gamnamujip is a restaurant renovated from an actual house people once lived in. I was shown to a room, and it felt oddly like visiting a countryside home~
I expected an old-school, worn-in vibe once inside, but the interior was surprisingly neat, more like a Korean course-meal restaurant~ There was plenty of space between tables, and partitions were even installed so you could dine a bit more privately~

Is Jeungpyeong Son Dubu Gamnamujip good with kids?
The menu has a separate baby rice option, and high chairs are provided, so it seemed like a kid-friendly restaurant you could visit without worry — a fine choice for a family meal out~

I liked the thoughtful touch of hair ties and disposable floss at every table. We ordered easily through the table-order system.
After ordering, they brought out fluffy, cloud-soft soft tofu, lightly salted, which was soothing to eat.
Side dishes from the self-service zone
The banchan (side dishes) at Jeungpyeong Son Dubu Gamnamujip

The fried items were crispy too, and overall the side dishes tasted like they took as much care as a Korean course meal. The banchan seems to change every day, and if you want more, you can just help yourself from the self-service zone.

Gamnamu soft tofu hot pot for two: rolled dumplings and broth
The gamnamu soft tofu hot pot for two arrived packed and generous~ Basic handmade tofu, guljim mandu (rolled dumplings), a variety of mushrooms, and assorted vegetables were all piled in generously, so it looked delicious just from the visuals~

The dumplings had thin, chewy wrappers packed full of filling, easy to eat in one bite, but the broth was the real star — a clear base that, once you took a sip, had deep flavor with a hint of spice sweeping through and a spicy finish~ If I hadn't come by car, this would have been a definite soju pairing. #Respect for that carefully made broth 👍👍

Handmade tofu refills, free of charge
The handmade tofu was so soft it broke apart the moment you picked it up with chopsticks, with a clean, mild flavor, and it's refillable too — just ask if you want more, and they'll bring extra broth along with it~ #You'll definitely end up asking for a refill

The chive pancake with squid we added
I also ordered the chive pancake, topped with finely chopped squid for a chewy bite, and the batter was spread thin so you could really taste the chives themselves. Starting my Jeungpyeong Tour Pass trip with such a thoughtfully made meal already has me excited for the rest of the trip. I think it's worth visiting Jeungpyeong Son Dubu Gamnamujip yourself.
