Balsan Station Korean BBQ with chive flower sauce lamb: Hwarodam
In short
Hwarodam Yang Kkochi Magok is a charcoal-grilled lamb restaurant on the second floor of Queens Park 10, near Balsan Station in Gangseo, Seoul. Two diners ordered a 240g lamb chop French rack for 36,000 won and a 250g lamb sirloin skewer for 23,000 won, added a second sirloin skewer, and finished with the 8,000 won Hwarodam noodle soup; the chive flower sauce suited both the lamb chops and the skewers. Between the thick-cut skewers and 4 hours of parking, Hwarodam Yang Kkochi Magok also works well for a Magok work dinner.

Today's post is an honest review of a new lamb skewer spot near Balsan Station — Hwarodam Yang Kkochi Magok. This is genuinely the best lamb skewer place I've ever eaten at, and I'm telling everyone in the Magok/Balsan area to go, no question.
How close is Hwarodam Yang Kkochi Magok to Balsan Station?
Hwarodam Yang Kkochi Magok sits on the 2nd floor of Queens Park 10 near Balsan Station, so it's easy to get to. It's open 11:30 to 22:50, closed Sundays.
The place is spotless and the staff were super friendly, so the whole meal felt great. Parking is at the Queens Park Ten underground lot, and they support up to 4 hours.

Easy parking, clean interior, and honestly I've never seen lamb skewers this thick before. Properly plump skewers with amazing texture — a totally different league from places that just pad out their menu with skewer varieties.
We had a great time with lamb skewers and lamb chops alongside a Tsingtao.

This is the lamb chop French rack — a different flavor from the skewers, tender with amazing texture. You have to try this one too. Another menu item where my partner and I were both on the same page.

Hwarodam Yang Kkochi is a charcoal lamb grill specialist located on the 2nd floor. Take the escalator up and it's right there.

Hwarodam Yang Kkochi Magok menu: what two people ordered
Hwarodam Yang Kkochi Magok sells both grilled cuts and skewers. There's lamb chop French rack, lamb chop shoulder rack, raw lamb sirloin, and lamb rib flap — we heard the lamb chops are the premium cut, so those were non-negotiable. For skewers, the lamb sirloin skewer is the signature item, so we got that too.

The charcoal grill is right there as you walk in — this is where the skewers and chops get their first sear before coming to the table.
The place was really clean and tidy, which I loved. It's nothing like the usual loud, chaotic lamb skewer joints.

They use lamb under a year old, apparently — which explains the full flavor and juicy bite. Cooked to medium, it was even better.

What is chive flower sauce, and what does it go with?
When I first saw "chive flower sauce" on the table I thought it might be basil, but the staff kindly explained it's made from chives. It goes really well with both the skewers and the chops. Good enough to call Hwarodam's signature sauce — the pairing was that on point.
There were two of us, and we started with the lamb chop French rack 240g for ₩36,000 and the lamb sirloin skewer 250g for ₩23,000. Then of course we added another lamb sirloin skewer 250g for ₩23,000, plus Hwarodam noodle soup for ₩8,000. We ate until we were completely full. That closing noodle soup was the real kicker — the broth was so clean and refreshing.

Is there a weekday lunch set at Hwarodam Yang Kkochi Magok?
They sell a lunch set too, and with no break time that's a huge plus. The weekday lunch set runs 11:30–13:30, and you can get a lamb skewer with fried rice, curry, or sweet and sour pork in various combinations.

The charcoal setup is so clean, and the whole place is spotless, which makes it a great pick for a work dinner in Magok/Balsan — I actually saw a lot of office workers there having a team dinner after work on a weekday ㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠ
How does the 240g lamb chop French rack taste for 36,000 won?
Lamb chop French rack, 240g for ₩36,000.

The Tsingtao was ice cold, exactly what you want. Even the glass was perfect for beer — such a nice touch.

Lamb chop French rack, 240g for ₩36,000. Young lamb really is on another level — so tender. The texture just melts like beef. There's a bit of fat on it too, so it's never dry.
The staff cut it into easy bite sizes for us, and the smell alone was incredible. It's also great wrapped with radish salad.
How can lamb chops possibly taste better than beef? Excuse me?

Tastes great topped with a bit of chili pepper too.

The chive sauce is the real kicker here. Incredible texture, lamb that beats beef. I've officially declared lamb chops my new favorite.

At a glance it could pass for beef. My top recommendation for lamb chops and skewers in Magok/Balsan.

How thick are the 250g lamb sirloin skewers?
We moved on to the skewers after that. Wow, I've never seen lamb skewers this thick. I don't think I can go to another lamb skewer place after this — Hwarodam Magok is on a whole other level.

It pairs so well with the sauce, and the natural flavor of the meat is so good, packed with juice.

Finished right down to the skewer stick. Goes so well with Tsingtao too. Places that just pad their menu with more skewer types are out for me now — I only want plump skewers like this.
Cooking away nicely.
Finishing with the 8,000 won Hwarodam noodle soup
Finish the meal with the noodle soup — it's amazing. Definitely order this to wrap things up, hangover-cure style. There's a faint mala spice to it, and I found myself wondering if this is what mala soup tastes like. I actually can't handle real mala tang, but this noodle soup I can eat, haha.
The broth is so clean and refreshing. Looking around, every table nearby had a bowl of the noodle soup too.

Lamb skewers and chops kept fresh in storage. The staff are genuinely so kind. This is my new favorite lamb skewer and chop restaurant, Hwarodam.

I'm planning to come back with my boyfriend soon. Hwarodam Magok is on a totally different level of meat quality compared to other places. You don't even have to grill it yourself, so it's a relaxed way to eat — also highly recommended for a work dinner.
