Magok Mexican restaurant dinner couple set with prize draw: Taqueros

Magok was somewhere I'd never been before. Going on dates means ending up in all sorts of neighborhoods I hadn't visited, haha. We had a filling dinner at Taqueros, a Mexican food spot, and ate well. In the gif I'm wearing plastic gloves, but you can also just cut things with a knife and eat with a fork. I wanted to eat neatly too, but in the end rolling the tortilla myself and just going for it felt more comfortable.

Where is Taqueros Magok Main Branch, and what are the hours?

Taqueros Magok Main Branch is a 2-minute walk from Exit 3 of Magok Station, on the 2nd floor of GMG Tower. It's open Tuesday to Sunday, 11:30–21:30, with a break time of 15:00–17:00 (no break on weekends), last order at 14:00 and 20:30, and closed every Monday.

It's really close to the bus stop too, and there's mall parking available. There are a lot of office buildings nearby, so when I went in the evening there were people having a work dinner and others clearly on a date. Hours run from lunch through dinner, and since there's a fair amount to do nearby and transit is convenient, it's a good spot to hang around before or after.

Inside Taqueros Magok: seating for 4 to 8 and group tables

Step off the elevator on the 2nd floor of the mall and you'll see Taqueros right away. There are waiting seats set up outside the store, so even if it's crowded, waiting is easy.

Tables range from 4-person to 8-person, and group reservations go up to 22 people. The seats are arranged in a U-shape across the store, so running out of space seems unlikely. There are lockers for storing belongings, and coat hooks toward the back, so it's comfortable to eat even with a lot of bags.

The prize draw for bills of 60,000 won or more

There's a prize draw inside too — tables of 3 or more seem to get to spin it once. It kicks in once your bill goes over ₩60,000, but the two of us were already full before spending that much, so I didn't get to try it myself. There's everything from prepaid vouchers to food, drinks, and sides, so it's worth a shot. Next time I go with a bigger group of friends, I'll definitely give it a spin.

The restroom is a shared mall restroom outside the store, separated for men and women, and it was kept clean. The password is posted at the store entrance.

Taqueros menu and free tortilla refills

There are a lot of items that come with refills, which is nice. They give you plenty of tortillas to start, and since refills on those are free too, it seems fine to wrap small portions many times over. Here's what we ordered.

What comes in the Taqueros dinner couple set?

This is what it looks like once everything's out. Three kinds of meat plus shrimp, and several sauces on top of that. A fish taco and a chicken taco came as extras too, which was great for sharing. My girlfriend prefers fish, so I ended up eating the whole chicken taco myself.

The portion was bigger than it looked, so I actually worried it might go to waste while we ate. We'd already eaten a whole plate of nachos and cheese sauce before the meal even started. The tacos were packed so full that wrapping them in a tortilla nearly made them burst. A dish that suits a nation of wrap-lovers perfectly.

Fish taco or chicken taco: which was better?

We cut them in half to eat, but it had been a while since I'd had to fit something that big in my mouth, so I ended up taking several bites per piece. Next time I'll cut into thirds. Both tacos were good, but if I had to pick one, it's the chicken. My girlfriend likes seafood more. Usually when greens or sauce get piled in, the balance can be off, but Taqueros seems to get it right.

I also ate what came with the fajita, and as I went, I noticed the rice had spread thin along the bottom like crispy scorched rice. The seasoning was already done, so I just scooped it straight up with the meat and finished it off. This alone could work as its own dish paired with a salad.
