While focusing on recovering after surgery, I still wanted to eat something delicious and lift my mood, so I went out for a special meal after a while. This time I visited Don Tamguso (돈탐구소), a pork tasting-course restaurant near Magok Station.

How is Don Tamguso different from an ordinary Korean pork restaurant?
Don Tamguso is a Magok dining spot that serves pork dishes as a course, so it suits both people who love pork and people who want something different from a typical Korean BBQ joint. I visited for the dinner course rather than lunch, and getting to taste a variety of dishes one after another kept me looking forward to what was coming next throughout the meal.
To cut to the conclusion: the price, the food, and the atmosphere were all satisfying overall, and I got to spend a relaxing, healing time after a long while. My return-visit intention is 100%!
Where is Don Tamguso and when is it open?
Don Tamguso is located at 11 Magokjungang 6-ro, 128-ho, Gangseo-gu, Seoul, 318 meters from Exit 3 of Magok Station. Hours are weekdays 11:30–21:10 with a break time of 14:00–17:30, and weekends 15:00–21:10.

Don Tamguso is close to Magok Station, so it's convenient to reach by public transport. I took the subway and then walked over slowly, so if you're looking for a Magok Station date restaurant, the accessibility should feel pretty good too.

Open kitchen, bar seats and the mood inside
Inside, Don Tamguso is centered around an open kitchen and a long bar table. I arrived right at my reservation time, and the interior felt clean and calm. It was striking to be able to watch the chef cooking through the open kitchen, and the bar seats were spaced generously so I wasn't sitting too close to my neighbors. It would also be a nice spot to sit close together and have a quiet conversation.

There are also regular tables further inside, so you can choose seating depending on your group or preference. Overall it felt less like a noisy Korean BBQ restaurant and more like a dining space for slowly enjoying a tasting course.
Don Tamguso course prices and what the dinner includes

At the time of my visit, Don Tamguso's course prices were as follows.
- Lunch course: ₩26,000
- Dinner course: ₩58,000
We chose the dinner course. Not just pork dishes but soup, salad, lasagna, a main course, a rice dish, and dessert came out in sequence, so it felt like being treated to a proper full meal.

Mango and peach ade instead of alcohol
Pairing the meal with alcohol would probably have made for an even more atmospheric dinner, but since I'm still recovering, I ordered mango ade and peach ade instead. Both drinks were sweet and went well with the tasting course.

Once I'm fully recovered, I'd love to come back and try the chef's pick pairing wine or a highball alongside the course.
Course 1: chestnut and mushroom soup
The first dish of Don Tamguso's dinner course was a soup made with chestnut, button mushroom, and fresh cream.

The soft, creamy texture was appealing, and the subtle nuttiness of the chestnut made it feel well suited to autumn.

The walnuts placed in the center of the soup added a nutty flavor along with a bit of crunch. Starting the meal with a warm, soft soup left my stomach feeling comfortable, and I was even more excited for the dishes to come.
Course 2: dried persimmon and prosciutto salad
The second course was a salad. It contained dried persimmon (gotgam-mallaengi), orange, apple, basil, and prosciutto, and it was beautiful just from the colors.

The bright, sweet flavor of the fruit combined with the salty richness of the prosciutto made for a fun combination, and the foam on top added a nice visual accent.
Course 3: mushroom lasagna
The third dish was a lasagna. I'm honestly not usually a huge fan of mushrooms, but the lasagna at Don Tamguso really impressed me.

It was made with shiitake mushroom, a white ragu, mozzarella, and a smoky sauce, and it tasted far nuttier and more flavorful than the lasagna I was used to.

The mushroom flavor blended well with the ragu, and the nutty, soft mozzarella on top made it even more delicious.
Course 4: shio koji grilled pork tenderloin
The first main dish was shio koji grilled tenderloin.

It came plated with button mushroom and broccoli, along with sun-dried tomato and a cabbage salad on the side. As soon as it arrived, a delicious aroma hit me, and once I tasted it there was a subtle truffle scent too, which made it even better.

The tenderloin was cooked just right. The tender texture of the meat really came through, and I liked how moist it felt without being heavy to chew.

It was delicious on its own, but pairing it with the cabbage salad on the side added a refreshing note that worked really well. Anyone who likes meat paired with vegetables would enjoy this.

Course 5: pork belly with minari (water dropwort) salad
The second main dish was pork belly. Instead of just eating it plain, it was meant to be wrapped in minari (water dropwort) salad, and I really liked this combination.
The skin was crispy yet chewy, and the meat itself was moist and nutty. Adding the fragrant character of minari made the pork belly's flavor feel even fresher.

The nuttiness of the meat and the aroma of the minari worked together so well that I kept reaching for more. If you already like pork belly, this is a fun way to enjoy it differently.
Course 6: the signature burger
After the main dishes, we could choose between a signature burger and a risotto. We each picked a different one so we could try both.

The signature burger had jambon, arugula, fennel, and carrot rapé inside. The distinct flavor of the jambon came through clearly, and with the arugula and carrot rapé added, it felt fresher and healthier than a typical burger.
Course 7: Wando abalone signature risotto
The risotto had Wando abalone, barley, glasswort, and Grana Padano in it. Personally, this risotto really suited my taste. The barley gave it a lively texture, and the sauce was thick yet nutty, which made it delicious.

What stood out most was the crispy, lightly fried-looking glasswort topping. It added both texture and aroma to the soft, thick risotto.

On top of that, the flavor of the Wando abalone came through, giving it a different kind of appeal from the burger.

If you can only choose one of the two, go with whichever suits your taste, but if possible, I'd recommend ordering one of each like we did and sharing.

Dessert: panna cotta
The final dessert was panna cotta. Eaten together with the compote, the sweet and soft flavors blended really well.

The top layer carried the sweet flavor of the compote, while the bottom had a nutty, soft texture that stood out. It was a dessert that felt just right, not too heavy, to close out the course.
Who should book a dinner at Don Tamguso?
I found that Don Tamguso isn't simply a restaurant for eating pork — it's a place that turns the meal itself into an experience by serving a variety of dishes in sequence. It seems well suited for a special date, a day when you need a mood lift, or when you want to try pork prepared differently than usual.

While recovering from surgery, I got to enjoy a relaxed meal out after a long while, and the delicious food and good atmosphere lifted my mood even further. If you're looking for a Magok date restaurant or a Magok Station date spot, Don Tamguso is worth keeping in mind!
