The 3 dipping salts: curry, perilla leaf and Himalayan pink

This Nowon BBQ spot has 3 types of salt: curry salt, perilla leaf salt, and Himalayan pink salt. Personally, curry salt was my favorite, haha! I love curry so much that the aroma and umami of the curry salt made it the tastiest for me.

Basic side dishes and the 3 wasabi dips

The side dishes came out clean and neatly arranged. Myeong-i namul (wild garlic leaf), ssam radish, pickled radish, corn salad, and 3 kinds of wasabi all came out. Shiitake mushroom wasabi, fresh wasabi, and wholegrain mustard — it was nice being able to pick and choose.

How the staff tell you to eat it, plus individual plates

The instructions on how to eat were written out in detail, and I looked over at the bottle opener next to the text — it was so cute, haha, I couldn't not take a picture. I kind of wanted it, haha.

How-to-eat instructions and the bottle opener

They gave us small portions of curry salt, perilla leaf salt, and Himalayan salt on our personal plates. Dip the salt, cry with the wasabi — haha, the owner's sense of humor in the wording made me smile.

Charcoal, a grill plate, and salted anchovy sauce came out — wow, what's with the color of that charcoal?? It looked so pretty I could've just stared at the fire!!!

Iberico set (2 flower collar butt + 1 pork jowl) and emperor beef short rib

It had been a while since I ate Iberico pork, and maybe because of that the meat looked even more radiant and glossy, I wanted to eat it right away, haha. It even came with a name tag, which made it even cuter, haha.

The emperor beef short rib looked incredibly appetizing too!! It was marinated with a sweet aroma already coming through, and it looked delicious even before grilling ><

Charcoal so hot it set off an accidental fire show

First, they put the Iberico set on the grill and cooked it for us. But the fire here was so strong that we accidentally got a fire show, haha. So a staff member came over and handled it, haha.

Flames rising from the charcoal grill plate

Because the fire was so strong, they put a few pieces of ice on top. Then the flames calmed right down. I'll have to remember that trick next time I'm barbecuing, haha. Anyway, once the fire settled, some slightly charred meat showed up — but hey, that's even better!!! Even tastier!!! haha

My partner cut the meat into nice bite-sized pieces. They even placed the mushroom in the middle for the photo, haha, such a natural-born blogger now~~ haha. Anyway, thanks to my partner, the meat photos came out great 👍

What pork jowl dipped in curry salt tastes like

After my partner finished grilling, they put some meat on my plate first and told me to try it. So I dipped it right into the curry salt and popped it into my mouth — wow... is this really pork melting in my mouth like this??

Grilled pork jowl on a personal plate

Pork jowl is already tender, but it melted in my mouth and the meaty flavor spread out beautifully, pairing so well with the curry salt that I ate it up happily. The flower collar butt was thick too, with good texture and tenderness that I enjoyed until the very last bite, and the emperor beef short rib had a sweet marinade and chewy texture, so the beef was delicious too.

Grapefruit ade and yuja (citron) ade

While we were busy eating meat, the grapefruit ade and yuja (citron) ade arrived. They came in such pretty glasses, perfect for photos, haha. It would've felt like a missed opportunity not to take a cheers shot with my partner ><

Honestly, I didn't expect much since it's a BBQ restaurant, but even the drinks were delicious. I liked the yuja ade better 👍

Chadol haejang ramyeon 8,000 won and beef doenjang stew 5,000 won

The chadol (beef brisket) haejang ramyeon... so good... ramyeon someone else cooks for you really is the best, haha. I asked out of curiosity, and they said it's made with Shin Ramyeon. I like firm noodles, and they cooked it perfectly firm, so I slurped it right up!!

Chadol haejang ramyeon and beef doenjang stew

The beef doenjang stew was really... it had that deep doenjang flavor, which I loved. Nowadays a lot of doenjang stews add gochujang for a slightly spicy kick, but the doenjang stew here had that nutty, savory doenjang flavor that I enjoyed eating.

The yogurt dessert that ends the meal

There was yogurt set up near the entrance as a dessert, perfect for cleansing the palate at the end!
