Weekend lunch Korean BBQ near Nowon with Iberico set: Junggye Gogi

I went to Junggye Gogi Party Nowon Branch, a Korean BBQ spot in Junggye-dong, for weekend lunch!

Junggye Gogi Party has parking for 7 cars right in front, which made driving there really convenient.

Rice puffs and umbrella rentals — the vibe inside

Outside the restaurant, they had rice puffs set out so guests could grab one to munch on after eating, and on rainy days the owner even lends out umbrellas — such a warm touch 😌

Inside, the space was spacious with plenty of tables! We booked ahead for the weekend lunch opening and there were already lots of guests when we arrived 👍 Junggye Gogi Party is famous as a Nowon BBQ spot!

Self-bar and our order

The self-bar had side dishes, lettuce wraps, small plates, and kids' spoons ready, plus a service offering free sikhye (sweet rice punch) and raw makgeolli (unfiltered rice wine) 🙌

Since we booked ahead, the side dishes were already set on the table, along with 3 kinds of dipping sauces to go with the meat.

The table also had various salt seasonings, so it was great to spoon a little onto a small plate and dip according to taste!

Iberico set ₩49,000 — 2 servings pork neck + 1 serving pork jowl

The Iberico set came with 2 servings of pork neck and 1 serving of pork jowl. The price was reasonable for what you got, and the meat quality was great too — very satisfying 🙆‍♀️

They refilled the charcoal quickly, the fire was strong, and the smoke vented to the side, which made grilling easy at this Junggye-dong BBQ spot 👍

Since the fire was strong, the meat cooked quickly, and with just our favorite cuts — pork jowl and pork neck — the kids ate fast so we kept grilling non-stop ❗️

7 kinds of salt and sauce, plus salted shrimp

There were 7 sauces available — shiitake wasabi, wasabi, whole grain mustard, curry salt, perilla leaf salt, Himalayan salt, and herb salt — so scooping a little onto a small plate and dipping the meat in your favorite one made it even tastier 🙌 The salted shrimp sauce they gave us was also great simmered bubbling on the grill, then wrapped up with the meat 👋

Side dishes — beef doenjang stew and steamed egg

The beef doenjang stew (soybean paste stew) was packed with tofu, onion, zucchini, beef, enoki mushrooms, and green onion, and even though it's a side stew, they put in plenty of beef — the kids loved it 🤍

The steamed egg is a bit pricier so I hesitated before ordering, but it came in a big earthenware pot and was so soft — I'd definitely recommend it 🙌

Whirlwind beef belly — morning discount ₩11,000

The whirlwind beef belly was available for the morning discount price of ₩11,000 until 3pm, which was great, and even the beef belly came in good quality — perfect for grilling up fast when we were hungry ✌️ Since it's fatty, you have to grill it off to the side of the pan 📍 (Ours flared up big once and startled us 🥹)

Extra pork neck, and dessert

After the Iberico set and 2 servings of beef belly, we felt slightly short, so we added an extra serving of pork neck! They grilled it alongside the leftover pork jowl, and the meat was so tender that we kept saying 'the meat here is really good quality' the whole time, ha.

After the meal, we even grabbed sikhye from the self-bar and finished it off neatly — it's homemade, so it was really sweet and delicious 🤍

The kids each had a cup of yogurt drink from the entrance — even the dessert drinks are covered at this Nowon BBQ spot, Junggye Gogi Party 👆
