Chinese restaurant near Starfield Hanam: parents' lunch rice soup

This is O Hyeongje Hwangje Nurungjitang, a Hanam Chinese restaurant my parents loved so much I think we'll be going back.

A while back my parents and I went to Starfield to look at fall clothes and decided to grab lunch together, so we headed to O Hyeongje Hwangje Nurungjitang — a place I'd been wanting to try for ages since it's famous near Hanam Starfield. My parents said it was delicious and loved it so much that I want to bring them back again soon, so I'm writing this post carefully!!!

⭐️ It's about 5 minutes by car from Hanam Starfield, right on the restaurant strip on Misa-daero, so it's very accessible, and the flashy exterior makes it easy to find even on your first visit. The parking lot is huge and wide, so parking is a breeze.

Is the interior big enough for a lunch with parents?

The inside of O Hyeongje Hwangje Nurungjitang Hanam Misa Main Branch is so massive it doesn't fit in one photo, which makes it look great for gatherings with friends or family.

There was a wait even on a weekday because it's so popular, but the staff cleared tables the moment customers left and kept the whole interior spotless, so it was really pleasant to use :)

O Hyeongje Hwangje Nurungjitang menu, prices and kiosk ordering

Each table has its own kiosk, so it was easy to browse the menu and order right from our seats. Seafood nurungjitang is ₩18,000, seafood abalone nurungjitang is ₩20,000, maesaengi abalone nurungjitang is ₩22,000, and mini pork tenderloin sweet and sour pork is ₩20,000.

There are several types of nurungjitang, and plenty of sides to pair with them — sweet and sour pork, dumplings, chili shrimp, and more — so it's a good spot to order according to everyone's taste.

A full bowl of rice on the side dishes alone: the self-serve refill corner

We each ordered different dishes to suit our own tastes, and the basic side dishes were set out first.

From the dried radish strips to the green onion kimchi, everything was so good I could've eaten a whole bowl of rice with just the side dishes — and I understood right away why there's a wait even on weekday lunches, before I'd even tried the main dishes.

Whenever the side dishes ran low, we could refill as much as we wanted at the self-serve corner, which was kept neatly organized :)

Fresh tenderloin tangsuyuk (mini), 20,000 won: crisp outside, tender inside

While we were still enjoying the side dishes, the tenderloin sweet and sour pork came out first.

No trace of the usual pork gaminess, savory, crispy on the outside and juicy inside — the texture was great and it was really delicious!!!

Tasting nurungjitang for the first time: seafood nurungjitang, 18,000 won

While we were still working on the sweet and sour pork, the main dish nurungjitang bowls arrived too, all piled so high in their stone pots they looked ready to overflow — very filling.

I'm not really an abalone person, so I went with the most basic seafood nurungjitang, and the seafood — shrimp, scallops, squid, and more — was all cut generously big, so the texture was great.

The broth was seasoned just right, deeply savory and completely thick, with a great texture. This was my first time ever trying nurungjitang, and even now, as I'm writing this post, I'm craving it again just thinking about the taste — it was that good. This restaurant genuinely won me over, so if you're looking for a real hidden gem near Hanam Starfield, definitely save this one and go!!
