Pyeongtaek cockle restaurant with a Catch Table waiting kiosk: Kkomak

In short

Kkomak Manse Pyeongtaek Manse-ro Main Branch is a fresh cockle specialty restaurant on Manse-ro in Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggi, and it runs only this one location with no chain branches. A couple on a drive date through Pyeongtaek ordered the Family Set — medium Manse Seasoned Cockles, three cockle pancakes, soy-sauce cockle bibimbap and odeng soup (fish cake soup) — and found the cockles perfectly cleaned of sand, with unlimited rice from the self-bar. With a wide private parking lot and a Catch Table waiting kiosk, Kkomak Manse is an easy stop even at peak hours.

A little while ago my partner and I went on a mood-refreshing trip to Pyeongtaek, combining it with a drive haha. The highlight of any trip is definitely good food, and my partner is completely obsessed with cockle dishes!! So as the designated food-scout for this Pyeongtaek trip, I searched really hard and found this place near Sosabeol and Jukbaek-dong that's supposedly amazing at cockles alone — Kkomak Manse Pyeongtaek Manse-ro Main Branch!

This isn't a chain at all — it's a fresh cockle specialty restaurant that operates at just this one spot in Pyeongtaek, so I figured we couldn't go wrong, and we headed in excited the moment we arrived lol. Let me walk you through our honest review of the Family Set we ate until our bellies were full!

Parking and how to find Kkomak Manse in Pyeongtaek

Kkomak Manse Pyeongtaek Manse-ro Main Branch is at 1728 Manse-ro, 1st floor, Pyeongtaek-si, Gyeonggi-do, and it has private parking right in front, making it easy to drive to. It's about a 15-minute drive from Exit 1 of Pyeongtaek Station (Line 1), and you'd need a bus transfer if coming by public transit. Hours are Mon–Sat 11:00–22:00, Sunday 11:00–21:00, with a Mon–Fri break time of 15:00–16:30, last order at 21:00, and no regular closing day — open year-round.

Wide private parking lot in front of Kkomak Manse Pyeongtaek Manse-ro Main Branch

The moment we pulled up near the store by car, I felt so at ease thanks to the wide private parking lot! When you go somewhere and the parking is tight or you have to circle narrow alleys, it can wear you out before you've even eaten ㅠㅠ

Clean, modern exterior of Kkomak Manse restaurant

But Kkomak Manse has a really large parking area right in front of the building, so we could step out of the driver's seat and walk straight into the restaurant ^-^ The exterior was clean and modern with no fuss, so the first impression was already great!!

Inside Kkomak Manse: the waiting kiosk and kid-friendly seating

Inside Kkomak Manse, tables are spaced widely with partitions, making it comfortable for a quiet meal for two, and there's a Catch Table waiting registration kiosk at the entrance. With baby chairs and a self-bar microwave and hot water, there were plenty of families with children too.

When we opened the door and walked in, I was surprised at how much wider and more open the interior was than I expected! The lighting was bright overall and the atmosphere was very pleasant. The gaps between tables were nice and wide, and each seat had good partitioning, so it was perfect for chatting quietly with my partner and focusing on the meal together!

This is a specialty restaurant that hand-cleans and prepares fresh cockles by hand every single day. There's also a Catch Table waiting registration kiosk at the entrance, so even during peak hours when it gets crowded, you can just enter your phone number and wait comfortably while getting a KakaoTalk notification~

Looking around, there were quite a lot of families with young children! There were plenty of baby chairs, and one side of the self-bar even had a microwave and hot water, which looked really convenient for preparing baby food or formula haha.

What's on the menu and why they chose the Family Set

Kkomak Manse's menu ranges from single seasoned cockle dishes to bibimbap, vinegared salads, surf clam soup, and whelk soup, and you order via tablet at the table. The Family Set we chose is a 2–3 person set that includes a medium portion of Manse Seasoned Cockles, 3 cockle pancakes, 1 cockle bibimbap, and a basic odeng soup with side dishes.

Tablet ordering screen installed at the table

Each table has a tablet installed, so we could take our time looking at photos of the menu and order easily with a tap. Looking at the menu, there was a wide range from single seasoned cockle dishes to bibimbap, vinegared salads, surf clam soup, and whelk soup! For people like us who wanted to try a bit of everything, a set combo seemed like the obvious answer lol.

Menu guide showing the Kkomak Manse Family Set composition

So we ordered the Family Set without hesitation!! This 2–3 person set is packed full — it includes a medium portion of Manse Seasoned Cockles, 3 hearty cockle pancakes, 1 cockle bibimbap, and a hot basic odeng soup with a generous spread of side dishes. The bibimbap comes in either soy sauce or red seasoned flavor, and we chose the soy-sauce cockle bibimbap so we could taste the cockles' natural savoriness!

The side dishes and unlimited rice at the self-bar

The Family Set comes with odeng soup that you boil on a burner at the table as a default, along with side dishes like tofu kimchi, seaweed-cucumber salad, garlic scape and dried radish, white kimchi, laver, and perilla leaves. At the self-serve salad bar in the middle of the restaurant, you can help yourself to as much laver and perilla leaves as you like, and rice is unlimited from the rice cooker.

After we finished ordering and were chatting away, the big table quickly filled up with food, practically groaning under the weight of it. The odeng soup, which comes as a default and simmers on the burner right in front of you, had a touch of cheongyang chili in the broth, giving it a subtly spicy, refreshing kick that really hit the spot!

The side dishes that came with it weren't just for show either — I kept reaching for every one of them! Starting with the tofu kimchi, whose stir-fried kimchi was a work of art, there was also chewy seaweed-cucumber salad, sweet-and-spicy garlic scape with dried radish, and a well-rounded set of clean white kimchi, laver, and perilla leaves ^-^

There's a hygienically managed self-serve salad bar right in the middle of the restaurant, so you can freely help yourself to as much of the basic side dishes like laver or perilla leaves as you want. Plus, they've set it up so you can grab unlimited rice from a big rice cooker, so even people with a big appetite would leave really satisfied!

Manse Seasoned Cockles: were the cockles free of sand?

Kkomak Manse's signature Manse Seasoned Cockles dish features plump cockles tossed in a special sauce and topped generously with flying fish roe and sesame seeds. The cleaning was flawless with no gritty sand at all, and the sauce wasn't too salty or spicy, so it was great wrapped in a perilla leaf with a piece of laver.

The first thing that caught our eye was the Manse Seasoned Cockles — plump cockles piled generously on a large plate, tossed in their special sauce, and topped with a heap of flying fish roe and sesame seeds. The visual alone was overwhelming haha.

Cockle dishes can easily be ruined if the cleaning is even slightly off, leaving sand in your teeth, but here the cleaning was so perfect that we felt no grit at all — just plump, chewy cockle meat!

A bite-sized seasoned cockle wrap

The sauce wasn't harshly salty or spicy but exploded with savory umami, so when we laid a piece of laver over fragrant perilla leaf, piled on plump seasoned cockles and flying fish roe, and took a big wrap-bite, the roe popped in our mouths for a burst of pure happiness!!

Cockle pancakes: crisp outside, soft and nutty inside

The 3 cockle pancakes included in the Family Set came out freshly pan-fried and were notably large. Crispy on the outside, soft inside, with chewy cockles packed throughout — dipping them in the accompanying onion sauce made the seasoning just right.

Freshly pan-fried large cockle pancake

The cockle pancake, golden-brown and still steaming when it arrived, was notably large — crispy outside and moist inside, with an unbeatable savory flavor ^0^

The pancake was packed with chewy cockles throughout, giving every bite a varied texture, and dipping it lightly in the accompanying onion sauce made the seasoning perfect — we devoured it while it was still hot!

Finishing the meal with soy-sauce cockle bibimbap

The soy-sauce cockle bibimbap arrives in a large bowl piled generously with fluffy rice, bean sprouts, seasoned laver flakes, perilla leaves, flying fish roe, and cockle meat. You mix in the soy sauce dressing, and adding a bit of leftover Manse Seasoned Cockles on top brings out even more flavor.

The soy-sauce cockle bibimbap that wrapped up our meal came in a large bowl filled generously with fluffy rice, crunchy bean sprouts, seasoned laver flakes, perilla leaves, flying fish roe, and cockle meat — mixing in the soy sauce dressing and stirring it all together was the best lol.

Wrapping the bibimbap in laver or adding a little extra seasoned cockle on top makes the flavor several times richer!
