Korean restaurant with outdoor seats for a date near Jeonju Hanok

In short

Hanok Maeul Mulgalbi is a mulgalbi (spicy braised beef rib hot pot) restaurant in Pungnam-dong, Jeonju, on Dongmun-gil near Jeonju Hanok Village. The galbijeongol set for two (₩22,000 per person) came with thick slices of yukjeon (pan-fried marinated beef) and spicy mulgalbi hot pot in a spacious wood-toned interior with outdoor seating out front. A solid Korean restaurant to pair with a stroll through Jeonju Hanok Village afterward.

Hanok Maeul Mulgalbi, a Jeonju Hanok Village restaurant

Today I'm bringing you a review of Hanok Maeul Mulgalbi, a Jeonju Hanok Village restaurant I visited during my Jeonju trip! I wanted to try something a little different this time, so I looked up mulgalbi (spicy braised beef rib hot pot) places in Pungnam-dong, Jeonju, and ended up here haha. Since you can get yukjeon (pan-fried marinated beef) along with the mulgalbi, I'd also recommend this to anyone looking for a good Jeonju date restaurant!

Parking: in front of the shop or the public lot?

Hanok Maeul Mulgalbi is close to the Hanok Village side, so it wasn't hard to find at all! There's space for about 5–6 cars right in front of the shop. Since we planned to walk around the Hanok Village after eating, we parked at Hanok Village Public Parking Lot No. 1 and walked over. If you're planning to enjoy a Jeonju Hanok Village date after your meal like we did, parking at the public lot and taking your time might be the way to go 😊

Since it's said to be a leading mulgalbi restaurant in Jeonbuk, I was extra curious what it would taste like! Out front there were also seats for eating outdoors. I feel like eating mulgalbi outside would be really nice once the weather cools down a bit more 🍂 You can even feel the distinct atmosphere of Jeonju Hanok Village here, so it seemed like a good pick for a Jeonju date restaurant too!

The inside of the restaurant was way bigger than I expected! True to a Jeonju Hanok Village restaurant, it was decorated overall with wood-toned interiors, and there were traditional props like a jige (traditional wooden carrier) that matched the hanok village mood really well haha. There were also plenty of tables, so it looked like a fine spot for visiting with family or a bigger group. If you're looking for a clean, spacious Pungnam-dong, Jeonju restaurant or Korean restaurant during your Jeonju trip, keep this in mind!

From mulgalbi to yukjeon: ordering the galbijeongol set

The menu can only be ordered starting from 2 people. We debated just getting mulgalbi, but looking at other people's reviews, a lot of them said the yukjeon here is delicious! Coming all the way to Jeonju, we couldn't skip the yukjeon... 🤣 So we ordered the galbijeongol set at ₩22,000 × 2 people! Since you get to eat both mulgalbi and yukjeon together, the set seems like a good option for anyone wanting to try a variety of Jeonju Hanok Village foods at once.

The Hanok Village yukjeon here is genuinely delicious!

Food finally arrives ✨ Before the mulgalbi came out, the yukjeon showed up first. The yukjeon here is seriously good!!! Honestly, I ordered the galbijeongol set because of reviews praising the yukjeon, and I was so glad I did. The meat was thicker than I expected but not tough at all — really tender. Best of all, the yukjeon is already seasoned on its own, so it's plenty tasty even without any extra sauce! The seasoning isn't too strong either, just right, so it's the kind of flavor you keep reaching for ❤️ If you're looking for a jeonjip (pan-fried dish restaurant) or a great spot for Hanok Village yukjeon in Jeonju Hanok Village, make sure to try the yukjeon here too.

The Jeonju mulgalbi finally arrives!

And then the main dish, the mulgalbi galbijeongol hot pot, finally arrives 👏👏 When it first comes out, you don't eat it right away — you wait for it to bubble and cook thoroughly before digging in.

As it starts boiling, the seasoning soaks into the glass noodles, mushrooms, and meat, and it looked so good visually alone 🤤

Once it's boiled enough, start with the glass noodles and bean sprouts first! The seasoning was really my style. It's spicy but not extremely hot, so I could eat it without much worry, and the mulgalbi seasoning had soaked into the glass noodles so well that it was so delicious. I guess coming all the way to Jeonju, you really do have to try mulgalbi once ❤️

Galbijeongol is even better wrapped in a lettuce wrap

The galbi is delicious on its own, but personally I'd recommend wrapping it in a lettuce wrap! It comes with basic side dishes like chives and bean sprouts too.

Wrapping the meat with chives and bean sprouts and eating it in one big bite was seriously delicious 👍 The mulgalbi seasoning itself is so good that it also pairs well with rice, and I just kept wrapping and eating more. It's not just harshly spicy, so I enjoyed it deliciously all the way to the end! It was exactly the kind of hearty Korean meal I wanted while traveling in Jeonju.

The restroom is outside!

Something good to know if you're planning to visit 😊 Just a heads up, the restroom isn't inside the store — you have to step outside to find it!
