Parking-friendly galbi hot pot near Jeonju Hanok Village: Hanok Maeul
In short
Hanok Maeul Mulgalbi is a galbi hot pot and yukjeon restaurant in Pungnam-dong, near Jeonju Hanok Village. The writer ordered the galbi hot pot set for two with extra rice, and the thick, deeply scored pork ribs turned out tender while the picky-eating kid polished off a whole bowl of rice thanks to the yukjeon. With about 5 parking spots right in front of the store, it's an especially easy stop for families traveling by car.

When you think of Jeonju Hanok Village, bibimbap or street snacks probably come to mind first, right? But among Jeonju locals and seasoned travelers, the dish that always gets named as a must-eat is the bubbling, simmered 'mulgalbi' (water-based galbi hot pot).
I finally took a proper trip to Jeonju! As the birthplace of Korean food, my expectations were sky-high, and 'Hanok Maeul Mulgalbi,' which I found near the Hanok Village, exceeded them with a perfect meal. Here's the story of an unexpected favorite restaurant I stumbled on during a trip — let's get into it 🩷

🌿 Close to the Hanok Village, with no parking stress
If you've traveled around Jeonju Hanok Village before, you know parking is no joke. The public lots are always packed, so just finding a spot can eat up a lot of time.

This place has space for about 5 cars right in front of the store, so we parked easily and walked straight in as soon as we arrived. (If it's full, you can use the nearby Hanok Village public parking lot.)

From the outside, the restaurant already gave off the neat, tidy vibe of a traditional Korean set-menu restaurant. Near the entrance there were even some charming outdoor parasol tables — I imagined how nice it would be to sit outside and simmer the hot pot in the breeze once the weather turns cooler.
Stepping inside, we were greeted by an open, spacious dining room with a view through the big windows. Everything was kept clean and pleasant, which put me in a good mood the moment we walked in 🤗🤗🤗 The place is large enough to comfortably seat groups, making it just as easy and relaxed for family travelers as for friends or couples.

🥩 Rich, savory galbi hot pot paired with unforgettable yukjeon
The menu here is refreshingly short but confident. Instead of piling on random dishes, it focuses entirely on two main items: galbi hot pot and yukjeon (pan-fried beef slices). Honestly, the truly great restaurants always have menus with that kind of quiet swagger lol. We ordered the signature 'galbi hot pot set' for two, plus extra rice.

Once we ordered, the hot pot arrived along with side dishes, and each banchan was clean-tasting and perfectly seasoned — I kept reaching for more. A really tidy lineup to go with the main dish.

Check out this galbi hot pot visual~~~ Thick pork ribs with deep, tight knife scores, piled high with crunchy bean sprouts, glass noodles, and fresh vegetables like a mountain 👍🏻 Once the broth started simmering down low and thick... a deep aroma spread that made my mouth water.

The ribs were scored deep and close together so the seasoning soaked all the way through, and the meat was nowhere near tough — it was tender and soft. Wrapping the sauce-soaked rib meat with crunchy bean sprouts and glass noodles for one big bite was pure bliss!

Mixing rice into the thick, seasoned broth and topping it with meat, we emptied a whole bowl of rice in no time.

The hidden star of the set: yukjeon
And then there's the hidden star of this set menu — yukjeon. Pan-fried until golden and thick, it kept all the savory beef flavor and satisfying chew intact. It was seasoned just right on its own, so eating it plain without dipping it in soy sauce still delivered a mouthful of savory goodness haha.

Our baby Jji is usually a really picky, small eater, but I was amazed watching her eat this yukjeon so well that she finished a whole bowl of rice by herself.
I came here for the mulgalbi and ended up discovering a 'best yukjeon of my life' too. This yukjeon is exactly why I'd strongly recommend this place for family meals with kids or parents. Kids really love it 🧡💛🩷

Overall impression
The food being excellent was a given, but I was also really satisfied with how clean and pleasant the whole restaurant was kept. More than anything, the owner and staff were warm and kind throughout, so I felt well taken care of the entire meal. Thanks to that, this Jeonju trip left an even warmer, happier memory.
If you want a proper Korean meal near Jeonju Hanok Village — rich, spicy galbi hot pot together with golden yukjeon — I highly recommend stopping by Hanok Maeul Mulgalbi.
