Suwon Chinese restaurant with thick jjajangmyeon: Mirim Yangjang

Today, I’m sharing my visit to Mirim Yangjang Time Villas Suwon Branch (미림양장 타임빌라스 수원점), a good restaurant at Time Villas in Suwon :) There are so many restaurants inside Time Villas that it can be hard to decide where to go, but Mirim Yangjang caught my eye right away with its exterior.

Mirim Yangjang is easy to find on the third floor of Time Villas

Mirim Yangjang is on the third floor of Time Villas. It is right by the escalators, and the restaurant itself is red, so it was not hard to spot. There is an unmistakable duck on the exterior too, which immediately brings its signature Peking duck to mind—I got a proper Chinese-restaurant feeling from the first look.

And that feeling becomes even stronger once you step inside! The interior uses red as its main accent, really bringing the atmosphere you expect from a Chinese restaurant to life. It was neat but clearly felt like a specialty restaurant, so I found myself getting excited from the moment we walked in for our meal.

How we ordered the Peking duck set

I also liked that you can look over the full menu in front of the restaurant before going in.

There is not a separate menu booklet inside; instead, you use the QR code at the table to browse the menu and order. After some deliberation, we ordered the Peking duck set that day! There is a reason I personally really liked this option: it included half a Peking duck, two meal dishes, and drinks, so it felt like a very substantial set.

Thick jjajangmyeon and warming, spicy jjampong

The food came out very quickly too! We chose jjajangmyeon (black bean noodles) and jjampong (spicy noodle soup) as our meal dishes, and they arrived in no time without a long wait after ordering.

I tried the jjajangmyeon first. The noodles were on the thinner side, and the thick sauce clung closely to them, which was delicious. Rather than a watery black bean sauce that felt separate from the noodles, the sauce blended well with them, so every bite gave you that rich, distinctive jjajang flavor!

And the jjampong was exactly my kind of style: warming, pleasantly spicy, with a rich broth. Rather than a clear, light jjampong, this one had a broth with some weight and depth, which was more to my taste. The jjajangmyeon was thick and rich, while the jjampong had a warming, spicy, deep broth, so ordering both gave us two different charms and made it nice to alternate between them.

The crisp skin of the Peking duck included in the set

The star of the day was the Peking duck! I had not had Peking duck very often, so at first I did not expect too much from something included in a set. But trying this changed my mind.

The charm of Peking duck is, of course, its crisp roasted skin, and this skin was roasted beautifully crisp, so the texture was really good. It was crisp on the outside while feeling tender within, and wrapping it in the thin pancakes made for a great combination. You can also get free extra pancakes and vegetables to eat with the duck, so you can comfortably order more if you run short.

Honestly, before eating, I thought, “It’s a set menu, so the portions will probably be small.” But once we ate, there was no need for that worry. The Peking duck in particular was served properly, so I almost felt like I would regret ordering everything separately instead of getting this set! If you came for the Peking duck, I think choosing the set with a meal included is much more worthwhile than ordering other dishes one by one.

When you want a different kind of Chinese meal

If you want something a little different from the usual jjajangmyeon or jjampong in Suwon, I recommend Mirim Yangjang. It is conveniently located at Time Villas by Suwon Station, the atmosphere is nice, and above all, I liked that you can enjoy Peking duck in an approachable set. Personally, the crisp Peking duck with the thin pancakes was the most satisfying combination; the jjajangmyeon had deliciously thick noodles and sauce, and the jjampong’s rich broth was exactly my taste.
