Gyeongju dessert shop with a bojagi-wrapped mochi gift box: Tareudang

Today I visited Tareudang, a fruit mochi shop that's considered a must-do while traveling in Gyeongju. I kept seeing a line whenever I passed by this Hwangnidang-gil dessert hotspot, so I got curious and finally went — and the combo of chewy mochi and fruit was amazing. Turns out it's a genuine hidden gem, making fresh fruit mochi in-store every day with same-day production.

Where is Tareudang in Gyeongju, and what are its hours?

The shop is small and cute, right near the main road of Hwangnidang-gil. There was already a line to buy mochi — pretty popular, haha.

I parked at Jjoksaem Parking Lot in Hwangnidang-gil. On weekends the parking lots right in Hwangnidang-gil are always full, so this one, which has the most space and is usually available, is where I park. It's a bit far from the main street though...😭

What the 4-slot box with bojagi-knot wrapping looks like

When I ordered it packaged, Tareudang put it carefully into a box.

Opening it up at home, the box and wrapping were so pretty — it would make a great souvenir gift from Hwangnidang-gil in Gyeongju.

The 4 mochi fit neatly into the box. The packaging is so tidy and charming that it feels good even eating them myself, and it would be perfect for giving and receiving as a gift.

The fruit mochi wrapped elegantly in a pretty cloth knot was really beautiful. It has that refined, old-fashioned Gyeongju feel, so I think it couldn't be more perfect as a gift to express your heart to someone special.

How the mango, pineapple and chocolate mochi taste

Cutting the Tareudang mango mochi in half, a whole mango appears — the visual is amazing.

Among all the mochi, the mango mochi stood out the most, so I tried it first. The moment I bit in, the chewy texture of the mochi rice cake and the sweet-tart yogurt cream melted smoothly together, then the juice from the whole mango inside burst out, cutting through what could've been a too-rich cream for a perfect balance..! Just the right sweetness and delicious 👍

The pineapple mochi also had a whole fruit inside, and the yogurt-cream cheese-pineapple combo was charmingly tangy and sweet. It wasn't as sweet as I expected and was delicious. The chocolate mochi wasn't cheap-tasting chocolate either — it had a rich, deep dark chocolate flavor, sophisticated through and through. The first taste is sweet, but the finish lingers with that characteristic dark chocolate bitterness, which pairs so well with the mochi, haha. Both the taste and texture are great, so it would make a really good souvenir gift from Gyeongju.

Is Tareudang worth it as a Gyeongju gift or souvenir?

From the elegant cloth wrapping to the clean visual of the 4 mochi fitting perfectly into the box, to the fantastic combination of chewy rice cake, fresh fruit, and yogurt cream — nothing was lacking at this Gyeongju dessert spot.

It looks pretty and tastes great, so it's a perfect place whether you want to treat yourself on a Gyeongju trip or bring back souvenirs to share your heart with loved ones.
