Came out to Hongdae for a nice meal, and after eating there's always still room for bread, right? Right! So I hauled home a ton of bread from Mandong Jegwa Yeonnam Branch.

Shrimp baguette, 5,800 won: does it taste like a shrimp burger?

It comes with slits cut in for easy tearing off piece by piece. I popped a piece in my mouth without thinking and got hit with the flavor of a shrimp patty burger — totally surprised me haha. That sudden shrimp patty taste — if you're a shrimp burger fan, you'll fall for this instantly.

Cappuccino bread, 5,600 won

The cappuccino bread has cream so it needs refrigeration, and they thoughtfully pack it with a mini ice pack!! Big props for that.

The cappuccino bread is super soft and melts in your mouth, still with a nice chewy texture, and a mocha aroma that pairs perfectly with an Americano.

Salt soboro, 3,600 won

The salt soboro has a crunchy crumb topping with a salty-sweet combo of salt and sugar.

Walnut bread, 4,300 won

The walnut bread has good chew and is packed with nutty flavor, so it goes great with coffee.

Chestnut-red bean-mugwort loaf, 7,200 won

Full of chestnut and red bean paste~~ chewy, with sweet soybean powder sprinkled on top, giving you bread and rice cake at the same time in a unique flavor. Recommended if you have an old-school Korean sweet tooth.

Mandong Jegwa in Hongdae is packed with unique and varied breads. It's a great Hongdae bakery to visit on a bread crawl, and being able to sample first makes choosing easy. The staff are friendly too.
