What kind of izakaya is Tsukiya in Hakdong, Yeosu?

I found this place while looking for somewhere to eat dinner in Yeosu. Lately more and more new bars have been popping up around Hakdong, making it a good area for a drink after work. This time I visited a newly opened izakaya in Hakdong, Yeosu called Tsukiya.

The side dish menu was more varied than I expected, and they also had proper meal options, so it seemed good both for a casual drink and for a group dinner. Above all, this time I ordered the beef miso nabe along with a half-and-half of Korean beef sashimi and salmon sashimi haha.

Inside Tsukiya: seating, atmosphere and group dinners

Walking inside, the overall vibe was clean and tidy. Rather than feeling crowded or hectic, it had a cozy, comfortable atmosphere,

which seemed fine both for drinks with friends and as a date spot.

Table arrangement with generous spacing

The spacing between tables was good too, and everything felt well organized overall! It's the kind of atmosphere that would come to mind when you want a quiet drink in Hakdong.

Interior space suitable for group dinners

For groups, they said reservations and private rentals are available, so it's worth keeping in mind if you're looking for a spot for an office dinner.

What's on the menu at Tsukiya

Looking over Tsukiya's menu, there were more options than I expected. From nabe (hot pot) to sashimi, yukhoe (raw beef) sashimi, tonkatsu, karaage, takoyaki, and yukjeon (beef pancake) — all kinds of side dishes — plus mazemen, gyudon, and shrimp fried rice for those who aren't drinking.

There were quite a few reasonably priced items too, so it seemed great for a group to order several dishes and share. That day we ordered the beef miso nabe and the half-and-half of Korean beef sashimi and salmon sashimi. Honestly, as soon as we saw the menu we spent a while deciding what to get lol.

Complimentary starter and the half-and-half Korean beef and salmon sashimi

Alright~ now let's get to the tasting notes.

Fried potatoes and sauce served as a basic side dish

As soon as we sat down, fried potatoes came out as a basic side dish. They were freshly fried and warm, served with a dipping sauce, so they were great to pick at while waiting for the main dishes. You know how these basic side dishes make your hand keep reaching over even before you've ordered any drinks? haha

Tomatoes and peppers served as a side

Tomatoes and peppers were served alongside too, which were nice to nibble on in between.

Table set with side dishes

The first dish to arrive was the half-and-half Korean beef sashimi and salmon sashimi.

Plate of half-and-half Korean beef sashimi and salmon sashimi

When you can't decide between just one option, being able to enjoy a half-and-half like this is great — perfect for ordering when you visit with one other person. The Korean beef sashimi had a texture that was both soft and chewy.

Chewy-textured Korean beef sashimi

It had that distinctive savory richness of beef, clean without any gamey taste, which made it just right as a drinking snack.

Sesame oil and vinegar-chili sauces served with the beef sashimi

There were several sauces available — sesame oil sauce, a gochujang-based sauce, and vinegar-chili sauce — so it was fun dipping according to preference.

Beef sashimi placed on seaweed with aged kimchi

It also paired well with seaweed and aged kimchi. Personally, I loved putting the beef sashimi on seaweed with a bit of aged kimchi on the side haha.

Vividly colored salmon sashimi

The salmon sashimi looked appetizing just from its color, and taking a bite, it had a soft, moist texture that I liked.

A piece of salmon sashimi picked up with chopsticks

It had a different, clean and savory flavor compared to the beef sashimi, so alternating between the beef and the salmon meant it never felt heavy and I could enjoy it all the way through. If you're visiting with someone who loves beef sashimi and someone who loves salmon, ordering the half-and-half seems like a great idea haha. In particular, the Korean beef sashimi had a nice soft, chewy texture, while the salmon sashimi was moist and clean, and alternating between the two made for a pretty great combination.

Table with half-and-half sashimi and drinks

The standout dish: Tsukiya's beef miso nabe

What stuck with me most that day — and the most memorable dish at Tsukiya overall — was the beef miso nabe. From the moment it arrived at the table, the pot was packed full,

and it looked so hearty that I couldn't help getting excited haha. Along with the beef, there were mushrooms, tofu, and bok choy evenly mixed in.

Bubbling miso nabe broth and ingredients

After letting it bubble away, I tried the broth first, and it was deeper and richer than I expected. The distinctive salty flavor of miso combined with the flavors drawn out from the ingredients — it's the kind of taste where, after a drink, one sip of warm broth just keeps you reaching for more.

Rather than being too intense, it had a savory, hearty depth that paired especially well with soju. There was quite a bit of beef in it too, so it was fun picking through the ingredients, and the portion was good even alongside the other dishes we shared between two people.

Verdict: is Tsukiya a good office dinner spot in Hakdong, Yeosu?

To wrap up with an overall verdict.

Closing photo for the Tsukiya review

Since it's open until late, it's good for using as a dinner spot after work or for going straight through from a first round to a second round. Of the dishes I had that day, the Korean beef sashimi, salmon sashimi, and the beef miso nabe stood out the most for me. If you want warm broth alongside a drink, the beef miso nabe in particular is worth ordering!
