I was craving makguksu (buckwheat noodles) during a Sokcho trip and stopped by 'Sokcho Topgol Makguksu Main Branch' ✨ Sokcho has tons of makguksu places, but I was curious about this one because of its unusual noodles and menu .ᐟ.ᐟ

It's near Sokcho Beach, which is a great spot for anyone looking for good food near their accommodation, or a place to eat after a swim ~

The place is clean and has plenty of seating, so it seemed like a good spot for family gatherings or group visits too!

Bringing a dog to Sokcho Topgol Makguksu: what are the rules?

Sokcho Topgol Makguksu Main Branch allows pets indoors, so I brought my dog Makdung along 🐶 There are conditions though.

• Must bring a stroller or bag, and it needs to stay fully closed while inside
• You can't take your pet out or give it water/snacks during the meal!
• Dogs that bark may not be allowed in, so keep that in mind when you visit

At the entrance there's a receipt photo booth, worth a shot on your way out ~ The counter also sells buckwheat cookies and dry buckwheat noodles. Using the public parking lot nearby gets you a 2-hour free parking coupon, so driving here isn't a hassle either 🚗

Ta-da ~ Everything came out fast!! A side of dongchimi (radish water kimchi) broth comes with the makguksu so you can add it to taste ✨️ Since the noodles are hand-made with 100% Bongpyeong buckwheat flour mixed with squid ink and reishi mushroom, the color and texture really were different from typical makguksu 👀

Perilla oil makguksu (deulmemak), 13,000 won

Sokcho-style perilla oil makguksu, the signature deulmemak! It uses perilla oil pressed on-site from perilla seeds grown in Goseong, Gangwon, facing both mountain and sea winds 📌 That nutty perilla aroma wafting up 🤤 Not overpowering, more mellow, so it's the kind of dish you could keep eating without getting tired of it 〰️

Pollack sashimi makguksu and the 4,000-won extra pollack sashimi

This is a menu where you get to enjoy pollack sashimi, one of Sokcho's local specialties, alongside makguksu ~ The sweet-and-tangy pollack sashimi paired really well with the nutty noodles! I also added the extra pollack sashimi order on the side 🍴 Pouring in the dongchimi broth partway through eating gave it a whole other appeal ( ・∀・)

Solo suyuk (boiled pork), 17,000 won

Can't skip the makguksu-and-suyuk combo haha. The suyuk is boiled nice and soft, so it went really well alongside the makguksu! It comes with pickled radish, seasoned pollack sashimi, garlic, and chili peppers to eat alongside 🥢

Especially loved that there's a solo suyuk option — good for solo diners or anyone who feels like makguksu alone isn't quite enough, without the pressure of ordering a full portion 👍
