Why Daecheon Brewery is a great thing to do in Boryeong

If you're looking for somewhere to go in Boryeong, I really want to recommend Daecheon Brewery! Before heading to the Boryeong Mud Festival I thought, "Let's fill our stomachs first!" and stopped by. The atmosphere, the food and the craft beer all beat my expectations, so the trip started on a great note.

Daecheon Brewery is a 2-minute drive from Daecheon Beach and close to Boryeong's main attractions like the Mud Festival grounds, Daecheon Sky Bike, the zip track and Jukdo Sanghwawon, so it's perfect for planning your route. After eating I went straight to the Mud Festival, and the short travel time was so convenient!

On top of that, it's Boryeong's first local craft beer brewery, so you can taste freshly made Boryeong Mud Lager, and with wood-fired pizza and platters too, it's an ideal spot to get a meal and beer in one go. Today I'll walk you through my visit: the atmosphere, recommended dishes, honest review and souvenirs!

Daecheon Brewery basic information

If you're planning a trip to Boryeong, Daecheon Brewery is worth a stop.

It's not just a beer bar: it's a complex where Boryeong's first local craft brewery and a pizza pub run together, and you can taste the beer brewed right there! It's very close to nearby sights, so it works well in an itinerary, and like me you could make it your first stop in Boryeong.

Atmosphere: Saturday 12:00 opening, reservations a must

I arrived at the Saturday opening time of 12:00. I'd thought, "Do we really need to queue at opening?" and I was completely wrong! 😂 I'm so glad I'd booked. When we walked in we could sit wherever we liked, but before long guests kept arriving and most tables filled up.

If you visit on a weekend, I recommend booking ahead or coming right at opening! The first thing you notice when you walk in is the exotic, Hawaii-style interior.

Yellow accent colors, rattan furniture and palm tree decor are placed throughout, so even though you're in Boryeong it feels like an overseas resort.

There's a long bar table in the middle, and at the back you can see real craft beer brewing tanks through a glass wall, a sight you won't find in an ordinary pub. Eating while looking at the place where the beer is made is Daecheon Brewery's special charm.

Seating ranges from tables for two to group seating, so it suits dates, family trips or friends in any combination, and the place is fairly spacious, so we could eat comfortably without feeling cramped.

What we ordered: Diablo Shrimp pizza and Boryeong Mud Lager

Besides its own brewed craft beer, Daecheon Brewery offers wood-fired pizza, platters and sides. It's fine for a casual beer or a full meal, so there's a wide choice.

We ordered the Diablo Shrimp pizza, french fries and 2 glasses of the signature Boryeong Mud Lager. As soon as the food arrived we said, "This place is so photogenic!" Wood-fired pizza with cold draft beer, plus the atmosphere, felt like being at a brewery overseas.

How does the Boryeong Mud Lager taste?

I tasted the Boryeong Mud Lager first, and the name made me curious, but it was much smoother and cleaner than I expected! It's crisp and goes down easily without feeling heavy, so it's a great beer for midsummer. As a signature beer you can only have in Boryeong, I recommend trying at least one glass.

Diablo Shrimp pizza and french fries

The Diablo Shrimp pizza came fresh from the wood-fired oven, with a crisp crust edge and chewy inside. It was loaded with plump shrimp, pepperoni and jalapeños, so the spicy flavor really came through, and the salty toppings paired really well with the Boryeong Mud Lager. A sip of beer, a bite of pizza, repeat!

The french fries we ordered were also better than expected. They came freshly fried and crisp, with just the right seasoning, so we kept reaching for more. If pizza alone feels like not enough, add them as a side.

Daecheon Brewery goods zone: bottled beer and souvenirs

There's a goods zone in one corner, so I had a look. What stood out most, as expected, was the Daecheon Brewery bottled craft beer, perfect as a gift.

Besides Boryeong Mud Lager there were Wonsando IPA, Daecheon Golden Ale, Ocheon Porter and more on display, and every label design was pretty, so they make great gifts. (A dedicated 6-bottle gift box is sold too!)

The goods were more varied than I expected: beer glasses, phone grips, magnets, keyrings, acrylic stands and more, nice travel keepsakes, and the emotive designs capturing the Boryeong sea made me want to keep them.

One side also sold skincare products made with Boryeong mud. Mud mask packs, moisture cream, cure cream and more, good for calming your skin after enjoying the Mud Festival, were ready and fun to browse.
