On this Gangneung trip I was searching hard for a dog-friendly restaurant where I could eat comfortably with my beloved dog Haengun without worrying about side-eyes, and I found a famous noodle restaurant right in front of Gangmun Beach!

In particular, once you take the elevator up to the 3rd floor, there's a spacious dedicated hall where guests with dogs can all gather and eat together. It's completely separated from the regular guest area, so having a dog along wasn't the least bit awkward.

We got to set Haengun's stroller comfortably beside our table and focus on a cozy meal with my husband — it put my mind at ease from the very start!

We ordered the well-packed set for two! It comes with a plate of tender boiled pork plus your choice of two noodle dishes, and it was such great value.

The boiled pork in the set had no gamey smell at all and wasn't dry — it was so soft and tender that dipping it in salted shrimp or ssamjang (dipping sauce) really got our appetite going!

The moment my husband's perilla oil makguksu bowl arrived, the nutty aroma of perilla oil hit us instantly!

It wasn't overpowering — the buckwheat noodles' own clean flavor carried a deep, rich perilla oil aroma underneath, making for a bowl you could slurp down cleanly, exactly what you'd expect from a Gangneung makguksu restaurant haha.

Spicy sundubu kalguksu or salad buckwheat gimbap — which was better?

The dish I picked, spicy sundubu kalguksu (soft tofu knife-cut noodle soup), looked mouthwatering the moment it arrived!

Soft sundubu (soft tofu) and kalguksu noodles mingled in a spicy broth that carried a hint of familiar ramyeon-style flavor, while still being sharp and fiery — it hit exactly the spot for a broth lover like me. The noodles soaked up the broth so well that I worked up a sweat finishing every last bit, and loved it!

And then the side we added, buckwheat salad gimbap (seaweed rice roll)! Honestly, of everything I ate that day, this buckwheat gimbap was my personal number one 😭

Buckwheat noodles replace the rice, packed with fresh, crunchy salad vegetables, so every bite had such a refreshing crunch. The flavor was clean too, and it didn't leave my stomach feeling heavy afterward — it felt like my body was thanking me!
