Baby chair and baby utensils at this Gangneung sundubu restaurant
In short
Jeong Eunsuk Chodang Sundubu is a Korean restaurant in Gangneung, Gangwon, run under the name of the 15th-generation certified tofu master. Visiting with a baby, the writer ordered the Chodang tofu table (sundubu jjigae + tofu samhap) and found a baby chair and baby utensils ready at the table, with a mild white broth that was clean-tasting and full of umami. A satisfying Gangneung sundubu spot for families with babies and for adults alike.

Things you have to eat when you come to Gangneung: Chodang sundubu (soft tofu), jangkalguksu (soy-flavored knife-cut noodles), dakgangjeong (sweet fried chicken)... you know the list.
But what if you're visiting with a baby? Chodang sundubu turns out to be such a great choice haha. As a mom, I've basically turned into a baby-obsessed parrot at this point — babybabybaby.
Recommending a great Gangneung Chodang sundubu spot that's easy to eat with a baby haha.

There's a nice wide parking area right in front of the restaurant! But if it's full, you can use the nearby Heo Nanseolheon parking lot for free!
The restaurant's atmosphere and the certified tofu master

Turns out this place is run under the name of someone selected as the 15th-generation certified tofu master. When a place puts their name on the line like that, it somehow inspires trust...

True to its reputation as a Gangneung Chodang sundubu hotspot, the place was packed with customers. Looks like it's been on TV several times too. The dining room isn't huge, but the food came out fast so the turnover was quick!

Can you bring a baby here?
There's a baby chair, and they gave us baby utensils (a fork and spoon) too. When we ordered, they even looked at the baby and asked, 'Should we bring the white (mild) one?'
Menu

The menu had the Chodang deluxe table, Chodang tofu table, tofu samhap (boiled pork), Chodang tofu jeongol, and Chodang sundubu jjigae. We went with the Chodang tofu table — the difference from the deluxe table is the seasoned grilled kodari (dried pollock).

Side dishes
Here are the side dishes. Quite a lot of them came out, and each one was delicious? The kimchi was great too! I happened to check the origin and the napa cabbage was domestic, which made it even better haha.

Mild sundubu jjigae — how was it eating with a baby?
The sundubu jjigae arrived~ It looks like it might be bland, but once you actually eat it, the seasoning is spot on and you just keep going back to the broth~~~
I usually like mine spicy and red, but since I was eating with the baby I had to go with the mild version, which I was a bit sad about at first — but wow, the combo of tofu flavor and white broth was so good... Clean-tasting with amazing umami!

Seems like they build the flavor with plump crab and salted shrimp. The crab was seriously packed with meat... and crab is in season right now~~~ I could never bring it home and clean it myself, but this was genuinely delicious. Ugh.

Tofu samhap (tofu + boiled pork + fermented flounder)
The tofu samhap comes out like this! A combo of tofu + boiled pork + gajami-sikhae (fermented flounder).
This tofu basically all went to our baby^^... She loves tofu, and since it's made with domestic soybeans, it was so easy to feed her haha.

Looks like they make their own ssamjang (dipping sauce) too — the color is different from the store-bought kind. Wrapped it up neatly with garlic + chili + salted shrimp for one bite... yum. You can see how moist the boiled pork is — tender, and the fat ratio was just right haha.

The gajami-sikhae (fermented flounder) that came with the boiled pork was sweet and tangy, which made it great to wrap with the pork, and also nice to eat alongside the clean-tasting sundubu jjigae!
Everything from the main tofu samhap and sundubu jjigae to the side dishes was so good that I found myself regretting not ordering the deluxe table so I could've also tried the seasoned grilled kodari. Ugh.
Before visiting, I looked up other blog reviews and found people who'd come back for a second visit because it was so good? It's great to eat here with a baby, and just as good for adults dining together — I think I'll be back again too!!

Having a title doesn't automatically mean the food is good, but I walked out thinking, ah, this person didn't just become a certified tofu master for nothing haha.

Sundubu pudding for photo reviews
Turns out if you write a photo review, you can get a sundubu pudding too? Leave a review and try the sundubu pudding, a flavor unique to Gangneung!

Is there a wait?
Given how spacious the waiting area is, there's probably a wait during weekends or lunchtime peak hours! They use Tabling, so check that in advance! Highly recommend this to anyone in Gangneung wondering where to eat with a baby-!
