In short
Gim Geumja Sutbul Galbi Daeyeon Branch (김금자숯불갈비 대연점) is a charcoal-grilled galbi restaurant near Motgol Station in Daeyeon-dong, Nam-gu, Busan. Today I'm introducing a great charcoal galbi place in Daeyeon-dong: Gim Geumja Sutbul Galbi Daeyeon Branch (김금자숯불갈비 대연점) :)
Gim Geumja Sutbul Galbi Daeyeon Branch: opening hours and atmosphere
The restaurant is open from 16:00 to 01:00, with last order at 00:00. Group seating, takeout, Wi-Fi, separate restrooms, high chairs, a waiting area, reservations and easy pay are all available.
Air conditioning on full blast! Haha, it's so hot these days, and a BBQ place especially needs to be cool. This place had the AC cranked up!
If there's a wait, there are chairs out front where you can sit and wait. The back-scratcher waiting tickets are so cute, haha.
The inside is clean with a retro feel. There were lots of photos of famous celebrities, which really catch your eye and are fun.
The origin labels are honest too. Almost everything is domestic! Disposable aprons are provided to keep your clothes clean.

What side dishes come with the basic table setting?
The basic setting includes pickled radish for wraps, kimchi and lettuce, plus spring onion salad, onion, garlic and the wrap vegetables you can't skip with BBQ. They say the kimchi is aged Korean kimchi, and it really was delicious.

A sweet-ish sauce, wasabi and ssamjang (wrap paste) come out too.

This cool, tasty mukbap-style acorn jelly soup (muksabal) is standard too! It whets your appetite before the meat arrives.

There's a self-service bar, so just grab any extra side dishes and sauces you need, as much as you'll eat.
Gim Geumja Set price and what else we ordered
You can order the meat à la carte or get a good-value set. There were plenty of meal dishes too.
- Gim Geumja Set (marinated galbi + spicy galbi) ₩33,400
- Beef brisket doenjang rice (우삼겹 된장술밥) ₩6,800
- Bibim naengmyeon (spicy cold noodles) ₩5,800
- Bone soup (one serving) ₩1,000
You can choose the spice level of the spicy galbi. I went with level 1, about Shin Ramyun spiciness.
As a review event, if you write a Naver review you can get one of dried filefish, jjondeugi (chewy snack), a drink or honeycomb pork skin. I got the honeycomb pork skin too! Haha

How does the 400g marinated galbi taste?
This is the 400g marinated galbi from the Gim Geumja Set. The galbi is well soaked in tasty marinade. Padron-style peppers, mushrooms and potatoes come along with it.

They set a grill over well-lit charcoal and pile the whole plate of meat and vegetables on. The marinade burns easily, so keep flipping it!
Nicely grilled marinated galbi! The marinade wasn't too salty and was delicious, and the meat seemed good quality. It's tasty even on its own!

Put meat on a perilla leaf, add pickled radish, add spring onion salad, and you can imagine how good that is.

How spicy is level 1 (Shin Ramyun-level) spicy galbi?
The spicy galbi at level 1 (Shin Ramyun level) wasn't that spicy. We grilled one plate of marinated galbi first, then the spicy galbi second! I'd been curious about this one. The looks pass for sure!
They changed the grill for the second round too. Just as I was thinking we needed a fresh grill, they came over thoughtfully to swap it, haha.
The spicy galbi was delicious too! The marinade itself is tasty and the meat is good, so it's hard to go wrong. Level 1 Shin Ramyun spiciness really wasn't that hot. While eating I thought, next time I could try level 2, Buldak level! Haha

Naver review event: free honeycomb pork skin
This is the pork skin I got from the Naver review event. How great is it that you can write a review and get to try pork skin too. The seasoned pork skin comes with soybean powder, curry powder and sauce.

Pork skin splatters a lot, so they give you a pressing plate. Put the pork skin on the grill, then put the plate on top.
Golden, well-grilled pork skin, not hard at all, with proper scoring, and delicious. Dip it in the soybean powder and it's great!

₩5,800 bibim naengmyeon: how does it go with galbi?
You can't have galbi without naengmyeon (cold noodles). The bibim naengmyeon here is ₩5,800, topped with plenty of sauce!

They also gave us icy slushy broth. When you mix the noodles, add the broth little by little and it mixes better and tastes even better. Mustard and vinegar came along too, to add to taste.

Wow, the look of it is something else, right? The portion was quite big too.

Top the bibim naengmyeon with marinated galbi and, well, you know it's delicious without me saying so >_<
Beef brisket doenjang rice and ₩1,000 bone soup
The beef brisket doenjang rice (₩6,800) is a rich doenjang (soybean paste) stew with beef brisket in it, served in a metal pot!
The portion was quite big, a tasty doenjang stew with tofu, beef brisket and green onion. Add rice to it and you get doenjang rice, the best way to have a meal along with the meat.
The bone soup was the one I thought was amazing. A big bone with lots of meat on it and delicious broth, for just ₩1,000! It feels like a menu item made just to give away as a freebie. I think it'd be the perfect soup to go with a drink.
At that price I wondered if there'd be much meat, but nope, it was loaded with meat, haha.
Gim Geumja Sutbul Galbi Daeyeon Branch location near Motgol Station and verdict
Gim Geumja Sutbul Galbi Daeyeon Branch is about a 3-minute walk from Motgol Station, so it's easy to reach by subway. I left really full and happy. Good value and good taste, so I'm satisfied! I recommend it to anyone looking for a BBQ place or group dinner spot around Motgol and Daeyeon-dong :)
