Pyeongdong Station donkatsu restaurant with huge portions: Jinsim King

In short

Jinsim King Donkatsu Pyeongdong Branch is a Handon-certified king donkatsu (Korean pork cutlet) restaurant near Pyeongdong Station in Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju. A couple visited on a weekend afternoon around 1:30 pm and ordered the Jinsim King Double Donkatsu for 16,900 won and the Jinsim King Bibimbap for 9,900 won, and even as big eaters they could not finish, wrapping the leftover cutlets at the self-service packing station. With a very wide private parking lot and a self-bar stocked with soup and wrap vegetables, Jinsim King Donkatsu Pyeongdong Branch is a filling, good-value meal.

My husband said he wanted crispy donkatsu, so on our way to a hospital appointment we stopped by Jinsim King Donkatsu Pyeongdong Branch. Not only was the portion huge, but the quality of the Korean-pork (hanbon) donkatsu was really satisfying too — and with the massive parking lot and friendly staff, the whole meal felt extra pleasant 😊

Is parking easy? The wide lot near Pyeongdong Station and Hanaro Mart

Jinsim King Donkatsu Pyeongdong is close to Pyeongdong Station and near Pyeongdong Hanaro Mart too. Best of all, the parking lot is enormous, so we could visit without any parking worries.

A few days earlier we went to a nearby jjamppong (spicy noodle soup) place and had a real headache finding parking — but here, the moment I saw the lot, I felt such relief. It's a great spot for anyone driving in who doesn't want to stress about parking!

Alright, off to eat donkatsu, GOGO! My husband, who usually only has donkatsu delivered, was excited to finally eat it in the restaurant again 😁

Looks like they just launched a new cold jjolmyeon menu too. Crispy donkatsu paired with sweet-and-tangy jjolmyeon — need I say more? ❤️

Waiting time, the self-bar and kid-friendly extras

We visited around 1:30 pm on a weekend and got seated right away with no wait, though I heard weekday lunch hours can have a line. As soon as we walked in, we saw the order counter and the self-bar.

📌 Self-bar guide 📌 Water, extra side dishes, plates, scissors, and tongs are all freely available.

Table spacing and tablet ordering

Can you see how spaced out the tables are? Genuinely roomy 😊 The gaps between tables were wide enough that it never felt cramped, and there was even enough room to push a stroller through. Families with kids should find it easy to get around!

Every table had a tablet installed so we could browse the menu and order — and even pay — all in one place, which was convenient. Under the table there was a drawer neatly stocked with spoons, forks, knives, napkins, and wet wipes. Since none of it was cluttering the tabletop, it kept things tidy and saved space.

Helping yourself to soup and wrap vegetables at the self-bar

My husband loves soup so much that it's part of why he loves donkatsu, and since the self-bar had soup available too, he could have as much as he wanted, so he ladled up a generous bowl. He also topped it off with a good amount of pepper, which made it even better.

Soup scooped from the self-bar

Since I was planning to eat bibimbap, I brought over some warm broth, and since I also wanted to wrap my donkatsu in lettuce, I made sure to grab lettuce and ssamjang (wrap dipping sauce) too 🥬😋

Jinsim King Double Donkatsu, 16,900 won: how big is the portion?

My husband wanted a hearty portion of donkatsu, so he ordered the Jinsim King Double Donkatsu, and I got the Jinsim King Bibimbap 😊 After ordering, we sipped the warm soup we'd brought from the self-bar, and then a serving robot brought both dishes out together — nice. The food came out faster than expected too, so we could dig right in.

Double donkatsu large enough to cover the plate

Even for a couple of big eaters like us, this portion was truly insane 😂 It wasn't just "king" donkatsu — it deserved to be called mega-ultra-king donkatsu!

My husband's hands are pretty large, and even so, the donkatsu looked bigger than his hand, right? 😂 Since it was the double size, it came as two massive pieces that nearly covered the entire plate — an enormous amount of food.

"I don't think I can finish this... haha. If it's this big, I should've just ordered the regular size..."

That's what my big-eater husband said the moment he saw it 🤣 True to its name, Jinsim King Donkatsu really delivered on portion size! My sweet husband cut the giant donkatsu into neat pieces and served me first 🥰

How the pork cutlet tastes, plus the spicy sauce

The donkatsu was crispy on the outside and the meat was tender inside, pairing well with the sweet sauce. It would've been such a shame if all that portion came with mediocre flavor 😂 but here, both the quantity and the taste were satisfying!

A piece of donkatsu dipped in sauce

We diligently wrapped bites in lettuce and also added the spicy sauce on the side 😋

The spicy sauce wasn't too intense — just the right amount of heat. The regular sauce was sweet and tasty too, but for our taste, the spicy sauce won out! It really matched well with the crispy donkatsu.

Jinsim King Bibimbap topped with vegetables and a fried egg

What goes into the Jinsim King Bibimbap, 9,900 won

The king bibimbap came loaded with bean sprouts, cucumber, cabbage, stir-fried beef, lettuce, a fried egg, and even seaweed — the ingredients were genuinely generous. The crunchy vegetable textures combined with the beef and egg made for a filling bowl, and the portion was massive too. Even as a carb lover, I wanted to greedily finish it all, but I tapped out around the halfway mark 😂 Thanks to the generous portion, it was a truly filling meal!

Wrapping up leftover donkatsu at the self-service packing station

We just couldn't finish the donkatsu, so in the end we packed it to go. There was a dedicated self-packing station stocked with paper boxes, parchment paper, and plastic bags. Being able to neatly pack up the leftovers ourselves was a thoughtful touch I really appreciated 👍

Verdict: a good-value donkatsu spot near Pyeongdong Station

  • ✔️ Generous portions: Both the donkatsu and bibimbap come in hearty, filling portions.
  • ✔️ Varied menu: Beyond donkatsu, there's udon, jjolmyeon, and bibimbap, so there's plenty to choose from.
  • ✔️ Taste: The crispy donkatsu goes well with both the regular and spicy sauces, and the bibimbap had a nice variety of ingredients too.
  • ✔️ Value & self-packing: Great portion for the price, plus a self-service packing station made it easy to take home the leftovers.

👉 Big portions and a varied menu! If you're looking for a great-value donkatsu restaurant, I'd recommend Jinsim King Donkatsu Pyeongdong Branch 👍 We're pretty sure we'll be back!
