Ssukseu Choco Pie is a handmade choco pie shop tucked inside Songjeong Station Market in Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju. The green, green storefront catches your eye right away!

There's apparently a quietly famous dessert in Gwangju these days! It's Ssukseu Choco Pie, a Gwangju Songjeong Station favorite, tucked inside Songjeong Station Market. Doesn't the name itself feel kind of cute haha

Turns out this Gwangju Songjeong Station favorite has also opened a branch at Gwangjang Market in Seoul! Really doing well, huh?

What kind of choco pies does Ssukseu Choco Pie make?

When you hear 'choco pie,' you usually picture the familiar packaged version, but this place is a little different. These are handmade choco pies with flavors ranging from mugwort to strawberry, peanut, and sweet red bean, so it's fun picking one at a time! And they're packed full of whipped cream inside too.

Besides the handmade choco pies, they also sell thick handmade cookies, so it's a great dessert to buy as a gift while visiting Gwangju haha. The packaging alone is so pretty.

Ssukseu Choco Pie has several flavors — basic mugwort, sweet red bean, injeolmi (sweet rice cake), Jeju Udo peanut, strawberry, chocolate, and more. When it's too hard to choose, you go with the set, obviously. I picked the six-flavor set.

Unpacking Ssukseu Choco Pie, the Gwangju Songjeong Station favorite, as soon as I got home!

You must refrigerate it right after receiving it!

When I opened the box, there was another box inside! I thought the choco pies would just be in a bag, but they're in nicely made individual boxes too. Each box even has a different photo for its flavor.

Ssukseu Choco Pie also says they put in more cream than the labeled weight for richer flavor, so some cream may smear during delivery. Honestly, thank you for that?

There's even a friendly pamphlet inside. I flipped through the menu too — since Ssukseu Choco Pie has six flavors total, going for the six-flavor set is a no-brainer.

With all six lined up and full, just looking at them made me feel weirdly reassured haha

How did they think to package it so nicely... it genuinely puts the eater in a good mood.

Gwangju real choco. Since it's a choco pie after all, there are also three flavors built around chocolate paired with other ingredients, so there's real variety.

The first one I tried was Gwangju Real Choco! My dog Mongshi loves chocolate too lol. The name alone screams 'made for chocolate lovers.'

Chocolate powder coats the outside generously~

Looking at it, you'd think it'd be super sweet, but surprisingly it's not. The whipped cream inside is just the right level of sweet too!

The rich flavor of the chocolate powder combined with the cream and the soft bread was so good.

I figured it'd taste amazing with milk, so I had it together with milk.

The cream is definitely firm whipped cream, but it's soft and delicious! And there's a lot of it too.

How the Jeju Udo peanut choco pie tasted

This one's Jeju Udo peanut! Big chunky peanuts are studded all over the outside.

Since it's made with Jeju Udo peanuts, there's a definite nutty feel, and the texture and flavor really double up~

Geomundo sea-breeze mugwort: the original is still the best

Geomundo sea-breeze mugwort!! The choco pie with Geomundo sea-breeze mugwort had a subtle mugwort aroma rising up, and I loved it so much. Not too much, not too little — just the right mugwort scent!

And that pure white whipped cream haha

Mugwort aroma, soft cream, soft bread, and just the right amount of chocolate — it was the very definition of the basic flavor.
