Bibimbap and cold soba lunch near Pyeongdong Industrial Complex
In short
Jinsim King Donkatsu Pyeongdong Branch is a donkatsu (pork cutlet) restaurant near Pyeongdong Industrial Complex in Gwangsan, Gwangju, known for its spacious parking lot and free cream soup at the self-serve bar. Instead of donkatsu, this visit ordered bibimbap and cold soba, and both the veggie-packed bibimbap and the icy-broth soba turned out impressively well-made. A solid recommendation for office workers driving in for lunch.

If office workers had to name their biggest daily dilemma, it would be, without question, 'what should I eat for lunch today?' Especially during the short lunch break in a busy workday, you end up weighing not just taste but the restaurant's accessibility, parking space, and overall atmosphere.

Near Pyeongdong Industrial Complex, with easy parking
The place I visited this day was Jinsim King Donkatsu Pyeongdong Branch, already well-known as a donkatsu (pork cutlet) specialist. Since it sits near Pyeongdong Industrial Complex, a lot of people drive in, and the thing I liked most as soon as I arrived was the spacious parking lot. Lack of parking can be a big source of stress for people who drive, but here the parking area was so wide and well laid out that even a beginner driver could park without worry. I felt at ease before I'd even started eating.
Stepping inside, the staff greeted me with bright, friendly smiles. Being welcomed kindly at a restaurant makes the whole visit feel more positive, and even during a busy period, the staff here paid careful attention to each customer, which left a strong impression. The tables were spaced generously apart and the interior was clean overall, creating a pleasant environment to enjoy a meal.

Starting with the self-serve cream soup
After taking a seat, I headed to the self-serve bar. One of the big draws of Jinsim King Donkatsu Pyeongdong Branch is the soup provided free at the self-serve bar. I scooped out a bowl of the warm, smooth Ottogi-style cream soup and tried it before the meal — its savory yet sweet flavor really got my appetite going. It tasted like a nostalgic comfort food, satisfying enough that I wanted to go back for seconds and thirds, and it was more than enough to warm me up before the main dishes arrived.

Ordering bibimbap and cold soba at a donkatsu place
Despite this being billed as a donkatsu specialist, I felt like something different this day, so I ordered bibimbap (mixed rice with vegetables) and cold soba. Since the shop's name is literally 'donkatsu specialist,' I was a little curious — and a little worried — about how good the side dishes and other meal options would actually be. But the moment the food arrived, that worry vanished completely.

Veggie-packed bibimbap
The bibimbap arrived first, generously piled with fresh vegetables, and the combination of fragrant sesame oil and the special seasoning sauce made it look appetizing right away. Mixing it all together and taking a big bite, the crisp texture of the vegetables blended beautifully with the sweet-and-spicy sauce, delivering a depth of flavor that rivaled dedicated bibimbap restaurants. I never expected to find bibimbap of this quality at a donkatsu place, which made it all the more satisfying.

Cold soba with icy broth
The cold soba that followed didn't disappoint either. It came with chewy soba noodles submerged in a chilled broth dotted with ice slush, refreshing enough to instantly blow away any heat or stuffiness. The broth was seasoned just right — never too salty or cloying — so it was easy to drink down cleanly, and stirring in a bit of wasabi added a sharp kick that had me finishing the bowl in no time. For anyone looking for something light and refreshing instead of greasy food, this would be an excellent choice.

Next time, the king donkatsu
Beyond its signature donkatsu, Jinsim King Donkatsu Pyeongdong Branch turned out excellent versions of other menu items like bibimbap and cold soba as well. With easy parking, friendly staff, and even a free soup done right, this is a wonderful place for anyone wanting a hearty, satisfying meal. Having finished this meal, I've already decided that next time I need to try the signature king donkatsu itself. If you're looking for a great meal near here, I'd strongly recommend giving it a visit.
